I love the /Drive series over Top gear for a few reason. One of them is that when they do car comparisons they are not looking for a winner or a loser they share what is great about each car and let you decided which is better for your style of driving. Also, I rarely find any of these guys biased at all unlike Top Gear. Keep up the good work /Drive TV you guys are passionate about what you do and it shows.

I can't begin to express how much I LOVE these videos. Chris Harris is by far the most brilliant of the vast galaxy of his kind. Of course no one comes close as he sets the bar....very hing indeed. Yep, Chris is like Fifth Gear, except not catastrophically boring, he tells you what you need to know, all the important stuff, and still is pretty entertaining. Jeremy is just like most of us, he gets put into a nice fast car, and has a hoon. Both are entertaining!

Very good video. I couldn't choose! The BMW M5 is more comfortable and in the real world probably the best one (daily use considerd etc) but it's not as special as the GTR (every street has a 5series in it). I'm not sure how the GTR would hold up in everyday use, but it's a lot more special. You never see them in traffic here.

The new Nissan gtr is one of thise understated cars, which is trying to compete with top rivals which have already established status among the super car world. This personally makes the Nissan (Datsun) more appealing in many different aspects which is may not be that obvious. I first saw a Nissan gtr back when I was travelling up and down the m3 to my place of work, the stance of the car is just so intimidating to all other road user, and from that point on I was truly convinced that this was a dark horse of the motoring world, you only have to read the technical stats of this car and you will have the Italians And Germans shaking in there boots. The thing that really struck me is how a company such as Nissan can sell such a wide range of cars but still manage to develop a car which will give you the performances of super car with the reliability and use ability to rival BMWs m range and Audi's quattro and RS ranges

Everyone has a particular use for a car he wants. Want funas a youth, take a GT-R. Want comfort, speed and seem more responsible take an M5. For the difference in performance(GT-R) and difference in comfort+ status(M5), added to the fact that they have the same price, I'd rather say the M5 is the better car of these two.

i absolutely agree .... you really can listen to him the whole day and one can feel his love for cars in nearly every sentence.

GTR is literally one of a kind it literally explodes, crazy acceleration, 0 - 100kph in 2.7 seconds!!! that is crazy, imagine it pinging you into your seat, traction everywhere, all wheel drive, explodes out of corners, well balanced as well! a 3.8L twin turbocharged v8! expensive but its got better specifications than a super car no way a gtr is soulless that is crazy might as well call every performance car soulless, so what it doesn't have a manual, it has one of those f1 DCT's in it!

The more I watch his videos, the more I'm convinced that Chris Harris is really the best auto journalist since Jeremy Clarkson. Jeremy's a bit more tuned for humor, and Chris is a bit more about eloquence. Both are insightful, compelling, and likable.

It's actually simple choice if you have children then pick the M5 and if you are a bachelor pick the GTR . The point is that these cars will never be in the same league ( GTR is a supercar or ultimate sport coupe while the M5 is a supersaloon ) think.like this GTR main rivals are Audi R8 and Porsche 911 Turbo while BMW M5 rivals are E63 AMG,Audi RS6,Porsche Panamera turbo and Jaguar XFR

Relax. Take a deep breath. Stop complaining over which car is better for this or that reason. Realize that these cars were built to very different philosophies. One is a quietly styled executive super sedan straight from the factory. The other is a racing derived sports coupe with a vast tuning industry built behind it. I'll gladly take both of them.

Yes and I agree! My brother has a 2004 BMW 530i Manual Transmission that is used for $15,000 but it came in good condition, already installed Angel Eyes bulb, sports package and it was owned by a doctor so it is kept very well!

At 8.17 Chris is putting the traction control in race mode, not switching the traction control off. It explains why at 9.12 he says he is fighting the systems while trying to drift. Other than that an excellent video.

That's what it's about. Each car has their own set of positives and negatives, but when it comes down to it, they are both fantastic cars to drive. Maybe not worlds different, but if I was ever offered either one of them to drive, "no" would never cross my lips.

Seriously why are these the two most googled cars. BMW, at least in the UK, is the top selling manufacturer, they sell more 3 series than ford mondeos over here. They have no exclusivity anymore, anyone on 30k a year has one. As for the the GTR, its a Nissan with a plastic interior and a very good launch control & 4WD system but if you're over the age of 30, you're going to look like an idiot driving one.

gtr should be cheaper thn £70k or they should upgrade the interior something luxury

GTR

The M5 is faster (not off the line obviously), more comfortable and it is 2 cars in one. It can be used daily, for shopping, fitting 4 people comfortably (even at high speeds), taking kids to school, going on long journeys. It can also be a MONSTER with the touch of a button. It's quick, fun, comfortable, sensible, handles well, performs well and that's why it's the car I would pick.

Chris Harris was a driver in the 2010 24hrs of Nurburgring race along with legendary Walter Rohrl, so i would say that he has more experience/knowledge than most

8:19 the gearbox on the GTR was in Save, which isnt Race mode and the suspension was in Standard mode. The Traction control was in R mode which isnt the Off position.

I love this review, because it's relatively objective and blatantly honest. There's constant comments online about certain cars having "no soul", and Chris hit the nail on the head with his affections for the GT-R, while pointing out its faults. Ditto the M5, loving it for its brutality and poise, but willingly criticizing its flaws. Complain though naysayers will about either, 99% of us would beg to have either, in our garage!

its matt black, and its a factory color offered by BMW for their latest models. there are also other standard colors(matt purple, matt blue.. etc) BMW is offering from 2013 i guess! if your are interested you can put matt black vinyl sticker to your car which costs around 2000 pounds depending on your car. its well worth money. i had it for my suv. just looks like real matt black paint!

The M5's seats are delightful. They're worth about the same as my Clio alone I bet.

I heard from Car and Driver that there is apparently no feel in the steering in the M5 and that it was ruined, but hey, that's just a magazine. I'd still have it with the manual option in the US.

Chris Harris... I laugh with you, and when you laugh! So much fun!

Its not that bad, someone on the M5 boards deactivated the system in their F10 and the car sounded the same but a bit quieter. Other manufacturers introduce valves, resonators, etc for no reason other than change the volume level of the exhaust and engine.

After this review and the conclusion Chris came to, what's left to argue about? Nothing. Just nod your head and agree.

I'd like to see a V12 GT-R in the future. That would be a beast.

I like both. I love the power of the gt-r. I love everything on the m5. The luxury, power, and handling is so balanced. Just such great engineering on both vehicles. I don't think they should be compared over another.

I'd rather *use my vehicle as a tool* rather than *be a tool used by my vehicle*. Everybody looks like a rockstar in the GTR because it saves their asses from spinning off the track, it looks much easier to have fun in the M5 at least.

At least he's not boring and can drive unlike most of reviewers.

Amazing videos always seem ruined by the comments on KZfaq. This is a well made video looking at aspects of both in detail. Everyone has an opinion but at least have a good argument if ur going to call someone's opinion wrong and less of the foul language that always seems to follow on the internet. People annoy me these days.

If you think the GTR has no history, you need to do some research, buddy. The first Skyline GTR was released in 1969. The 1995 Skyline GTR R33 was the first production car to break 8 minutes at the Nurburgring. The 2009 GTR R35 won numerous awards and recognition. This car is a legend of its own.
