I bought a focus 2012 titanium manual 2.0... mark the code p0087 high fuel pressure rail system too low... change the spark plugs change the fuel pump... new... but change the rail fuel regulator I bought it used in junker the fault persists when I go slowly, fine, but if I step on it hard to run, it doesn't respond...

there is not a lot of pressure, you can just go for it.

I always like to start by replacing the cheapest part. Start with the sensor

i have the same code p0087 and the code reader is on amber light,im guessing the high pressure is failing when too hot.

I was having the same p0087 code but now I have a p00c6 code. And an engine fault service now message on my display. And it won't even crank to get it to a dealership.

​@@86282l I had an independent mechanic change the high pressure pump that is located on top of the engine and he broke that clip on that output gas line. That missing clip, holds the hose to the fuel pump outlet on the left side of the high pressure fuel pump, plugs into that. So I noticed when my car continued cutting out after driving for a good amount of time, parked, did my errand came back and cut out upon starting up, but the last time it actually spewed fuel all over and I smelled fuel, strong smell. Opened up the hood and that hose had come off! So, I had to make shift jam paper towels, wet so they dried hard, to hold the hose attached to the outlet hose part of the high pressure fuel pump. Drove to the junk yard and found the hose with intact clip, I needed that clip to lock that hose to the HPFP. Then, it held. BUT! I did not get the little gaskets, the hose is firmly, griped to the outlet BUT is still has play, and sometimes the cuttng out of fuel happens. SO, I need to reinstall the small gaskets fitting them onto that outlet valve part that the hose connects to to make a tight, firm attachment! I'lll try to re-write this, been busy. But that's what I mean by start small, in my case, it appears to a broken clip I didn't replace AND the gaskets, THREE OF THEM, that are rings that go onto that outlet valve coming out of the left side of the HPFP. Then if all that doesn't work, THEN you repalce the HPFP, and if you still have problems onto the to the larger parts like fuel injector line, and so on down the path. Hope that helps! Let me know, please what your problem is and if you resolved it! Them tiny parts are absolutely needed for a tight fuel vacuum seal!

I've got a 13 that is doing this exact same thing. But now it won't even crank. It has an engine fault service now message.

@Rattrap 73 Does it have the P0087 code? The only difference between mine and yours I think is that mine would crank, it just wouldn't start until eventually I got the code to come up. What I discovered was that if I let the car cool down for an hour, then I could restart and run it just fine. However, I was able to get it to happen again on a full tank of gas. So I realized it wasn't gas tank related. It was more temperature related, letting the car idle too long and get hot. This low pressure fuel sensor seemed to be the problem for mine. It's like it thinks it has too much pressure so it tells the fuel pump to stop sending fuel. From what I read the newer sensor had a hole drilled in it to let internal heat or pressure balance out so that it doesn't fail like that. Part Number CM-5250 (BU5Z-9F972-CA). The original older sensor ended in "BA" instead of "CA". The "CA" has the hole drilled in. I changed out my sensor, and let the car idle for a while and it didn't happen again.

@outwestjake no mine has a P00C6 code. And now just the "engine fault service now " on the display. But it won't crank or do anything. I should have an OBD2 scanner tomorrow and hopefully it gives me a better idea of what is exactly going on. I can hear the tank fuel pump humming when I turn on the key so I'm beginning to think it's not that anymore and it might be the high pressure pump under the hood along with something else.

@Rattrap 73 oh wow, that's interesting. If you don't mind, let me know how ya make out. I'm curious to know in case it ever happens to ours one day down the road. This car has quite a few random quarks and issues. But then it seems fine once it's fixed

@outwestjake I just checked mine and got P0882, P2872, and P287A all either having to do with the tcm. The first code says the tcm isn't getting the proper voltage or something like that and the other 2 are transmission clutch stuck or not able to go into reverse. Ford needs to make this right for everyone that has these models. I'm definitely calling my dealership Monday morning and if they don't wanna do anything I'll call Ford or an attorney. This is our only vehicle and I'm not gonna pay for something that is broken. I still have 12 payments left but I'm not sure if I can keep dumping money into this car.

Any codes? Have you tested the battery?

P0087. Battery is good. The engine light will come on for a day then turn off until it happens again.

Did you end up finding out what it was? Experiencing the same problem

Still haven’t figured it out. Replaced the EVAP valve. No changes. Thinking it may be the MAP sensor.

Gotcha, just got back from a junk yard all the ford focus had theirs stripped already. Thinking of buying a cheaper one and seeing how long it’ll last since it’s so easy to swap out

@@L8R-HP thanks. took care of the basics already. just did oil, plugs and valve cover gasket changes. This ticking is wierd, and trying to diagnose things as I go.

Will yours rev above 2000 rpm Jason ? Got a customers Fiesta ecoboost in and it's fault coding low fuel rail pressure, the HP pump is ticking it's tits off and won't rev, only came in with a burst cylinder head gasket, now it's got this problem

@@31144 when in park I don’t think they rev high. Those pumps do tick.

@@31144 yeah, it still revs. Still drive it most everyday. Still has the previously described issue though. A bit more research suggests it could also be the cam follower under the HPFP. I think a diagnostic at the dealer will be in order soon.

Hard to say with no. Codes. Could try to change the evap purge valve.

Evap purge bro. Mines did the same thing but in reverse. My purge valve failed in 2022 and in December 2023 my fuel pressure valve failed.

@@mossyburg50 Today I replaced the high fuel pressure pump, fuel pressure sensor and fuel injector sensor, and so far it is running fine. I hope the problem has been resolved.

@@JoeyCanoy-ux5uc you can get a cheap OBD2 scanner to check the codes on the car. Walmart has some. Auto parts stores do it for free if you can get it there

I have the same problem on my 2014 MKZ. Code P0087. Fuel Rail/System Pressure - Too Low. Stalls at low speeds and sometimes while idling. It’ll go days without stalling and then stall several times one day, then back to not stalling. It’s frustrating. I replaced the fuel rail sensor but it’s still stalling and idling rough. I don’t know if it’s a clogged fuel filter, or bad pump. Let me know if you solve the problem 👍🏼

@@Maverick.311 the stalling stopped when I replaced both sensors. I still got the p0087 still and now it misfires in second gear so I know it’s a fuel delivery problem. I can hear my high pressure fuel pump hum loudly so 9/10 it’s your pump ( on the motor )

Sounds like the high pressure fuel pump is failing, get it checked or replaced before it causes more damage.

Check fuses. It could be your fuel pump in the tank that is bad
