This video will show you how to replace the front and rear brake pads on the 2011-2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It's always good to replace your brake rotors or have them resurfaced before new pads are installed. In the video I had them resurfaced at my local O'Rileys auto parts. Brake pads were purchased from Amazon and I have provided a link below.

Nice job with the detailed video. Good to see that some of us still get the rotors cut (if applicable) rather than just throw away and buy new. I have a 2015 JGC and pretty much the same brakes/workflow as the 2018 you repair here.

Great Video! Thank you! It helped this first timer have confidence to take rotor and pad replacement myself. - if you have an older WK2 (mine is a 2015 with 100K) with original brake pads, your rattle could be caused by rusted mounting studs on the break pads. They make the little pressure mounting tabs out of cheap metal and they literally rust away with time and then allow the pads to make an annoying rattle over bumps (can occur on rear as well). I live in Cleveland, OH and dump a lot of salt on our roads, so if you go longer than say 5 years, and live in a similar environment you may have the same issue. Simple fix with new pads (although both my rotors and pads had another 10-15K of life in them). I have NEVER had a set of pads last longer than 35-40K - Jeep did a great job engineering the pads and rotors to match the WK2 (mine is V6)! When I went to replace them, I paid up to use MOPAR parts hoping to get same results again - don't mess with success!

posted this on another similar video: Great video but I got hung up on one thing. The rotor wouldn't come off, essentially a rust ring (I assume) holding the parking brake shoes. I found the adjuster behind the rotor plate or whatever it is. But I have no visibility at all on which way the adjuster is oriented and which way to spin the adjuster and is it the opposite way for each side. Do you know this info or do you have a video on that on the Jeep? I have a Summit series and all the air suspension components don't help with visibility. I do not have a brake spoon and plan to get one. If you see these messages, please comment when you can. THANK YOU!

Super helpful video! Question for you - do you happen to know if your brakes are Heavy Duty brakes on this model? I have a 2014 with what looks to be the same setup as yours but can’t seem to find anything concrete on the internet.
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE

I think all these came with the same basic brake pads and you can choose in the aftermarket parts if you wanted to upgrade to heavy duty ones for if you tow or something with it.

Great video step by step. I’m about to change my pads and rotors for my grand Cherokee 2018. When it comes to bleeding the brakes is it a simple process for all four lines ?
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE Жыл бұрын
Yeah what I usually do is suck all the old fluid out of the master cylinder reservoir with a turkey blaster or fluid extractor. Then top it off with new fluid. Next start bleeding it at the passenger rear, driver rear, passenger front, and end at the driver front. I usually use the power motive bleeder or my mitivac bleeder.

Great detail. I’ve done a lot of work on cars but never messed with brakes. Wanted to have someone else to blame if they ever failed! 2 years ago (15,000 miles) the shop said I had 70% brake life remaining. The passenger front squeaks occasionally so I bought new pads this week. After watching your video I’ll have the rotors turned since that’s a pretty easy step. I’ve pulled axles before so this shouldn’t be anything too foreign. I’ve just never changed out pads or broken them in (thanks for the details on that as well).

Excellent video except? Why can't any of these videos tell us exactly what size tools they use. Yes, I see an Allen wrench. What size is it? What size is the caliper bracket bolts? I don't have an organized tool box.And I would just like to know what tools I need before I jack the car up. Thank you

If you use an impact wrench on your wheel lock/wheel lock key you could strip it out and or ruin the shape which would cause it to slip. Always loosen it by hand first then use the gun to take it off.

So every tutorial about the grand Cherokee pads replacement I see on KZfaq, they talk about greasing the guide pins on the calipers, but for some reason the “Haynes” repair manual I own for my jeep says don’t grease them pins. I wonder why they say that? It looks pretty obvious to me that something with a lot of friction such as the guide pins should be lubricated right?
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE
