3k miles on lariat 7.3 with 3.55 rear. 15-16 mpg daily and 9 mpg towing 10k-12k. Loved my eco F-150 mpg and power but needed more stability of the F-250 for towing large RV and 7T dump trailer.

I have a 2020 F350 Lariat 4X4 with the 7.3 L engine 3.73 gears. I’m haulIng a slide in truck camper which weighs approximately 3700 lbs. I’m getting between 10.5 and 12.5 mpg here in Colorado. Driving mountain passes as well as some interstate. Plenty of power.

I will trade in my 2020 F350 DRW Lariat FX4 6.7 to upcoming 2023 F350 Platinum Crew Cab SRW 7.3 , 3.73. 11,400 lbs GVWR SRW You say 4x4 , is that different than FX4? What is the difference? I do not tow but do carry some weight up to about 3300 lbs time to time. - I will not add moon roof nor fifth wheel prep, FX4. - It will have 20" tires . Share any ideas.. I want to order the right truck this time. I did not need DRW nor diesel. :)

2016 F-250 w/ power stroke towing approximately 13k lbs typically around 15 mpg highway. 2020 F-250 w/ 6.2 gas under similar load is about 10.5 mpg. The 6.7 pulls easy with no strain. The 6.2 pulls fine @ I saved $10k and also on Maintence costs. I’ll definitely be looking hard at the 7.3 on my next F-250.

Robert Westbrooks seriously go drive an Obs Ford with either the 460 or the 351. I say this because you my friend need a lesson in how far they’ve come. I had a 91 F-350 regular cab with the 351 it got 8 mpg uphill, highway didn’t matter. I knew someone with a 460 truck and that thing would drink 5 gallons to warm up in the morning and then get 5-6 mpg. Trust me 14 unloaded is great for 445 cubic inches and 430 horses. 10.8 is great too that’s about what an Ecoboost F-150 would get for mileage pulling that weight.

I have been towing a 5500 pound trailer with a Yukon Denali with the 6.2 liter engine and six speed transmission. Does a respectable job. I love this motor! I have a 2020 F250 XLT FX4 with the Godzilla engine. Currently have 13,000+ miles, I drive 1000 miles a week, about 25% city and remainder highway 70 to 80 mph with some travel on hills, etc. Average 15.5 to 16.5 all day long ... unless you are heavy towing and that will drop quite a bit to the 8-9 range. I usually haul 500 to 2500 pounds and this beast handles it without issue. The standard exhaust sound is really something ... I use this truck for my business traveling between home and two locations I own - I would prefer to drive a smaller SUV or maybe a sports car, but need the payload that an F150 just cannot handle. I did the cost of ownership between the 7.3 and the diesel - in my area I would need to drive the diesel about 250,000 to recover the additional cost. Love this truck!!

@@lanedelker9161 3.55 (I think, or 3.5?) I did think about the diesel, but the math just didn't pen out. Honestly, this thing pulls strong and really sounds great. I drive a long grade once or twice a week and shift down to 5th and it keeps it at 45 or so at about 2200rpm. I have 25K miles on it in six months, still average about 15+ ... I am not aggressive, but I make it work. Has used NO oil and I do the Ford dealer oil changes every 7500 to 8000 miles ... expect to have about 200K miles then trade for the next one. One last thing, the exhaust sounds great - like an old school big block with stock mufflers ... hope this helps.

Have you tried the Eco mode on the highway yet? I just found it last week so now when I'm empty on the highway it will approach 20 mpg. It's kind of sluggish trying to use it in town so it's not practical there. However, using Eco on the highway and regular mode everywhere else, I'm seeing an average of 16 mpg which is exactly what I averaged with my old 2014 6.7 diesel empty. It has 3.55 gears. I haven't towed yet because I'm still under 1000 miles, but I'm sure it will do fine with our 9,500 lb 5er.

We at Ford were told the reason they made this motor was for companies like DTE and such. Companies whose vehicles do a lot of idling. Idling is bad for Diesel. The 6.2 doesn’t have the commercial longevity. This is a gas work horse engine. That’s why it’s offered in their 650-750.

How is idling bad for a diesel? Ever seen a semi?
@eliallore5506
@eliallore5506 2 жыл бұрын
@@carguy0389 When a diesel engine idles it does more damage to the engine than normal operation. Operating a diesel engine at a low speed will cause two times the wear on the internal components compared to operating at a normal load. This will raise maintenance costs and shorten engine life. This is why manufacturers usually classify applications with high idle times as severe duty and recommend a more aggressive maintenance schedule. Idling actually causes the buildup of carbon in the engine. A high percentage of idle time will also cause mirror glazing in the cylinder walls. Mirror glazing Is when there is a mirror-like finish on the walls surrounding your pistons. This will cause more oil to pass by the piston rings and create a large amount of blow-by. The main reason this causes the damage it does is that diesels need to operate at higher temperatures. To get a complete burn of the fuel, a diesel needs a very high combustion chamber temperature. Without this temperature, there will be carbon build-up. With that, carbon buildup comes all of the other problems. Diesels need to be run under a load to get the best out of them.

With the stock tires I got up to 20.1 mpg on a road trip in the summer, then my next set of tires were cooper RTX and my mileage on the same road trip from MN to TX dropped to 18.5 mpg then last year I put Goodyear wrangler duratrac and that dropped my mileage to those numbers. Stock size tire, only more aggressive tread and I’m guessing higher rolling resistance. I LOVE the traction in snow and rain and off road. If money is no object, and you prefer the wave of torque that 6.7 (and 3.5 ecoboost) delivers in spades, then yes that is the obvious choice. Clearly you haven't driven a 2020 diesel. I was so disappointed with the 7.3L vs my 2019 6.7L 450hp. I bought a 2020 6.7L and it in insane for take off. 1050lbft@1600 vs 475lbft@3800. The old 7.3 poweerstroke was good with 30k GCWR. This new 7.3 tops out at 28k GCWR. Horsepower means very little when it come to max capacity. International paired the t444e(7.3 powerstroke) with an 18spd in single axle tractors that had GCWR OF 60000LBS. It was 250hp 650lbft. You will never find that with a gas engine lol

Oh we have. Check out our review of it. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eZmqdaV7p9eoXX0.html With less than half the tq of the diesel I would expect some disappointment. That being said for those who don’t town daily, and at high payloads the gas just makes more sense.

I was looking for a new pickup that could tow an 18K lb. equipment trailer a few months ago. The F350 with a 4.30 rear end could handle that, but there wasn't one to be found within 500 miles, and they weren't dealing on price. I ended up with a 2019 Ram 3500 with the high output Cummins for $50K. I'm getting about 10 towing, and 18 around town. This thing is a beast. Sorry Ford.

Don’t worry, we have a review for your truck too! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a5qogdujvrCsn5s.html The Heavy Duty Cummins is a very compelling rig right now. It’s a lot of truck for the money with rebates.

Firewall problems!! There’s already folks putting the 7.3 in foxbody cars and ford said it would fit in the mustang.
@TexasTruckChannel
@TexasTruckChannel 3 жыл бұрын
Ha, per Ford this beast of a big block will not fit in the current mustang chassis at the moment. It’s too long. But heck yeah is it already being stuffed into fox bodies. The aftermarket will help it fit into many chassis, we hope.

Cant yall use that super influence on ford people and tell them we need a 40 or 45 gallon gas tank for the Tremor 7.3 gasser? Why are the stuck on the 34? A diesel can get a 60 gallon aftermarket.

I hope people aren't going to get too concerned over MPG in something called 'Godzilla'. Get realistic. This engine is made for the heavy, heavy 'Brute-Force' that only The King of Monsters will provide. As for the 6.2? That's not going anywhere, Aaaaaand, they have put everything else in a Crown Victoria P71 police interceptor, so we could see some dude step up and blurt out: "Yep, it's getting a Godzilla!" and get to work.
