I test drove 5 different similar size SUV's from all of the different manufacturers you mentioned in your review, and ended up buying the Rogue. And pretty much for the exact reason you mentioned. For me, it was the most comfortable, sporty, light on its feet, easiest to live with day to day driving SUV out of them all, with the Mazda coming in a very close 2nd. I was aware of the CVT issues, but after 2017 or so they seem to have figured it out. Speaking of the 1.5, it's an extremely enjoyable engine to get into. Yes, I've already noticed that the gas mileage will drop if you're having fun, but it's really hard not to have fun in that thing. It most definitely feels a lot quicker than your typical mid-suv, you certainly feel every bit of that torque. Easily just as responsive as the 4cyl competition.

I have a Daily Driver 2015 Rogue with over 100k miles. No major issues so far Only parts that have failed so far , Shocks and Struts ( changed them for bilstein),tie rods ($500 total in parts , no labor since it’s a very easy job) brake pads lasted 80k miles because wife use them all time Have done CVT drain and fill 2x every 45k miles . The cover gasket stared to leak oil, very minimal but it is common with the 2.5 engines at over 100k miles since it’s made of plastic but it cost $97 and waiting for the new one. I’m very happy with our Rogue 25 mpg in the city , comfortable and it was biggest CUV vs the competition at the time of purchase.

My understanding is the CVT has been upgraded. It's the JF022E, instead of the JF016E. It has firmware updates, now has 2 oil pumps (electrical and mechanical), an extended gear ratio range and holds up to 330 Nm of torque, and jatco claims they've reduced friction by 30% as well.

My 2009 Murano had 123,000 miles on it with no problems at all, in fact that was the only car I ever owned that I went over 100,000 miles. I bought 2 2014 Murano's one for the wife and one for me, no problems with either. I just traded one 2014 with 80,000 miles on it for a 2022 Rogue sv with the 1.5 turbo and for the wife, we use it alot and love it. Plenty of power and comfort. I still have a 2014 Murano, just hit 80,000 miles on th at one. Still no problems at all. It pulls my boat just fine. Waiting for my hitch for the rogue. NISSAN has been very reliable for me.

rav4 - noisy cabin, cheap interior cx-5 - cylinder deactivation, head crack crv - oil dilutuon outback - windshield crack rogue - cvt and new engine concern. choose your poison..But 2022 rogue now has chain belt on CVT with extra oil pump, so expecting similar reliability as subaru CVT. VC turbo has been out for few years so not really new design although first year production is always a concern..

Hi Shari, your review of this new Rogue is so accurate in capturing the essence of the vehicle for anyone in the market to buy a new vehicle. You were also so accurate from a mechanical reliability point of view of comparing other options like RAV4 and CX5 are better quality and long term reliability. Glad to see you didn’t include CRV as the alternative because of equally complex Turbo GDI engine. Loved the fact you mentioned that Rogue could be a good leasing vehicle.

i'm in a cusp of purchasing a new '22 SV with Premium Package and i have no doubt in my mind that any vehicle will last past 10-20 years as long as you follow the recommended maintenance that the manual tells you! It's not rocket science. and NO car is perfect by any means... its how you make the best out of it. But this review has been spot on in my opinion. The question of how reliable this new 3 cyl turbo engine has yet to be proved and THIS is gotta be a MAKE or BREAK for Nissan.
@tomtalker2000
@tomtalker2000 2 жыл бұрын
Hopefully NOT break by any means. Because i'm considering either an SL or Platinum trim. And i just LOVE what they got out of power from this new 3cyl. It's the long term reliability that has me on the fence. I always tell folks anyway if your going too lease no problems. But for those that are purchasing it's best too wait for a year or two if you can. Until they have worked out any major recalls and other bugs. Especially, on a new engine being introduced. There just isn't enough data yet on this new 1.5 turbo to know for sure what your getting yourself into.

I just leased a 2023 Nissan Rogue SL Premium because not only is it a beautiful updated car, but because there are no new Toyota, Honda, Mazda or Suburu cars available spanning from 5 months to 2 years if wanting a hybrid in Ontario. I couldn’t even test drive most vehicles as there were none in the showrooms. Car buying is extremely difficult right now if you need to buy in a hurry. My car completely broke down and I needed something fast. Used cars have interest rates of 6.99-7.99 % currently and are 30% more expensive than other years. Also, dealerships are ordering in cars fully loaded and selling as is to make as much money as possible because they are selling less cars monthly as they wait for cars and parts to come in. It’s a bad market for a buyer who needs to buy quickly. And I also leased because now I can order what I want in two years if there is a two year wait list for a fully electric car - and by then there should be many more options. And honestly, Nissan was the only dealership that would pay me for my 15 year old car and had amazing customer service, and I can’t say that about other places. I am excited to lease it and yes, if worried about transmission problems, it’s the way to go.

I like and agree with your review. I'm in the market for a new vehicle. I love the new exterior and interior but I just dont want a turbo, much less a three cylinder turbo. I wish they offed more engine options. This engine may turn out to prove to be trouble free, I just would rather have a non turbo engine with adequate power. The less I have to worry about the better. Styling wise it would be the top of my list, but because of the engine, it's off the list.

Newest Nissans have a great reliability and the CVT is totally new, also the direct injection and VC-Turbo are intelligent ideas that help this vehicle to have better performance and eficiency. How you can have eficiency and performance? Put more air into the cylinders, more precision to the injection of gasoline, also more cooling. Engineers do a lot of tests tontheir new vehicles, this vehicle was tested a lo grande time ago. You’re talking about problems related to vehicles from the past.

Yeah. I totally agree with you on reliability for long term ownership. The 2022 Rogue with the 3 cyl turbo and CVT is a hard pass. I keep my vehicles for a long time ( still have my 2007 Honda Fit bought new which will be 15 yrs old this June). I shopped for an SUV in Apr 2021 and settled for a RAV4 XLE Premium gas version. No turbo charging, no CVT and port/direct injection. This is a great recipe for long term ownership! I know there are others with nicer interiors, quieter rides etc etc, but I was willing to forgo that for long term reliability.

@@scrambler69-xk3kv I ended up buying two used CX-5s for my kids and I am pretty happy with the choice. The design language is very clean and the hood looks great to me. Similar designs can now be found in the Alpha Romeo Stelvio, Ferrari Purosangue, Jaguar I-Pace, and the Ford Mach-e, so the general flow appeals to some of us. When you go back and look at the 2016 CX-5, which had a shorter hood, it was a pretty homely vehicle. Part of my decision was about cost, so I was generally picking from among 5-year old models. There are certainly some very interesting newer vehicles, which were just out of my budget.

A guy I work with has had three Nissan vehicles all with cvts and he never had a problem with the first two. 2009 Altima with 250,000 kms, was totalled by a sixteen year old girl with no insurance. The second Altima a 2012 had 330,000 kms when he traded it in, he now has a 2017 murano with 90,000 kms. I am considering a rogue as my next vehicle as both of us are fastidious about maintenance and we never beat on our cars, so I could see a rogue lasting me a long time. Quite frankly You came off as advertising other brands against the Rogue. You mentioned that the engine was new... I expected that your criticism would be centered on the performance when peered with the CVT..... I expected that you would discuss the process you used to establish your conclusions..... all I got was hyperbole.... did you really drive the Rogue and for how long, what were your findings and how do you project without discussing your empirical findings no matter how briefly. If yours is how consumer ratings are conducted then I've lost confidence in its impartiality.

I have had my Rogue SV for 8 months now. I understand some of your points but I think you also missed the mark on some. In regard to power, you can’t stomp on the gas pedal and get the power…I find if you lightly step on it, it ups the power quite quickly. And as to the gas mileage, I am getting significantly better mileage that with the Forester I had a few years ago. I got about 6.5L/100km travelling to Vernon, BC from Calgary, Alberta. I only used about 3/4 of the 55L tank. I got even better mileage with a slight tailwind from Calgary to Saskatoon, SK (5.5L/100km). I agree with the hesitancy about the reputation, but this feels like a significantly different vehicle that previous Rogues. It reminds me more of the X-Trail, but with more high-quality features.

Back in 2020, when Nissan was working on the new Rogue, do you think they knew back then that they were gonna replace the short lived PR25 engine with the 1.5T just one year later at the time? I question why Nissan redsigned the Rogue for 2021 with the PR25 when they could've just redesigned it for 2022 instead so that it could have the 1.5 right off the bat.

I think it's because the older model was seen as really long-in-the-tooth by automotive authorities. That model had come out in 2014. So, if they waited until 2022 (when their 1.5 was ready for primetime) the old one would have been a whopping 8 years old. It was already taking a beating for being "so old" (at a mere 6 years old) by all the car authorities, who kiss Honda's, Mazda's and, now, Hyundai/Kia's rear ends. So, they made the new 2021 model on their new platform and kept refining their new 1.5 engine until releasing it in 2022. Just my humble opinion.

I have been trying to find CVT reliability studies with hard number not anecdotal stories without success. My anecdotal stories are. I had a 2007 Mitsubishi Lanser for about 5 years no issues. Now I have the a 2015 Nissan Murano and my wife a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder, no problem so far. A friend of mine get rid of a 2014 Pathfinder just a year after buying it allegedly because transmission problems, when I ask he told me that when the car accelerates sounds like a boat like the transmission is slipping. Difficult to know if it was a real problem or just perception.

@@soilomasbello1156 It is pretty well documented and well known that Nissan CVTs have had lots of problems, just Google it and it will come up. The way these transmissions are built, and the way they work makes them weaker and more prone to fail. Nissan also agreed to pay over $300 million as part of the settlement to resolve defective transmissions claims. I know when my transmission went out I later got a letter about a class action lawsuit against them. I will personally never buy a CVT vehicle again.

Just a few notes: Firstly, It'd be best to start off with positive attributes in a review. The beginning of your review is overwhelmingly negative about Nissan and this Rogue. With today's plague of short attention spans, anyone who doesn't finish your video, or even get midway, would completely write off the Rogue. They'd never get to the positives, which happen to be many. Secondly, your review is FULL of assumptions and skewed opinions, in addition to a preponderance of choosing what you deem "safe." Thirdly, have you checked out Honda's waning reliability and their efforts in hiding that information? Fourthly, I've had 3 Rogues, and NONE of them have given me ANY issues. The first one is a 2011 with well over 120k miles and, aside from regular maintenance and replacement of normal, wear-n-tear things like brake pads/rotors, nothing has gone wrong with it - same with my 2014 (90k+ mi.) and 2017 (50k+ mi.). So, it seems a lot of what you say in your review is just regurgitation of what we hear on other biased-against-Nissan yet pro-everything-Honda-and-Mazda-makes reviews, which has grown very tiresome. (As someone in the legal field, I can tell you a lot "pay-to-play" goes on within the automotive industry, which greatly affects professional and public opinion.) Lastly, your tone in giving your review is extremely monotonous and sounds like you're reading, and with no feeling at all - just very robotic. (Have you seen the movie "Up?" Your tone is like Russell, the boy scout character who monotonously says: "Hi, my name is Russell...") Keep things positive at first, and then review negatives, keep your information factual without obvious biases, broaden your experience and seek out actual customer feedback, and speak/read with more feeling, nuance and fluctuation and you'd be a lot better. 👍🏽

Oh, BTW, I've owned 3 Nissans, 2 Mazdas, 2 Hondas, 2 Mitsubishis and 1 Suzuki. My faves have been the Nissans, followed by Mitsubishis, then Suzuki. In my experience, they ALL surpassed the reliability of my 2 Hondas and my 2 Mazdas, both of which gave me the most problems. Go figure.

I am considering this new Rogue so was glad to hear you also have had good luck with yours, but to be honest, reliability for Nissans is always in the forefront of my consciousness. The Rogue offers more space, more comfort, more technology, better equipment and more value in general, also better performance and eficiency (not considering hybrids) also talking about reliability newest Nissans and newest Rogues have proven to be reliable. The VTEC of the CR-V suffered reliability issues in this gen, also their CVTs, Toyota suffered the same with their CVTs those 3 brands and talking particularly about Nissan have a lot of improvements with their reliability.
