Fantastic build and beautiful work! I'm 60, and I got into RC in my 40's because I was finally able to get some of the RC's I could never afford as a poor kid. Of course I knew of Tamiya but they never were really on my radar back in the 80's and since I never had one or wanted one back then I don't have the nostalgia for them that most of my friends here do. I love the way the Clod looks and I love building kits but everything I've done up to this point has been with awesome, modern high performance kits, and from everything I've seen about the tamiya models they seem rather toy grade as far as the electronics, suspension, transmission etc. And also very limited in the performance. Now I do know that they are immensely upgradeable and a person could spend an absolute fortune modding one to run somewhat like a modern basher but I'm still having a hard time wrapping my mind about the appeal of them other than the looks and I totally get it if someone had them as a kid or for their first RC, so I get the nostalgia part of it. But stock they basically seem very outdated, with toy like stock parts. I do have a Konghead I'll be building this winter and maybe after that I'll get the attraction more. I really love any RC really and learn to appreciate them for what they are after driving them. I was the same way about crawling several years ago. I just didn't get it because I was a basher and thrasher lol eventually I tried it and after doing it and seeing that it requires a different skill set and was rather relaxing, I loved it. Right now every time I watch a tamiya video I kind of shake my head and go why? What's the attraction, they run terrible 😂. Now, that isn't entirely true, I've seen some that actually looked really fun. But in general they definitely don't seem to have any kind of performance or good suspension. But since I haven't yet driven one, I'll reserve any true judgment until I get my Konghead built and drive it. I hope it changes my mind about them. I just don't have room on my shelves for too many underperforming but great looking shelf queens 😂 yours looks amazing, great work and great overview of the build! 😁👍🤜🤛⚡⚡🔥🔥

So I can definitely see your logic on Tamiya especially if your experience is a bit on the lesser end came in as you stated 40 That would put you around the nitro craze a bit and the rise of sedan racing and of course bash style rc traxxas. I was for sure lover of those the thing is I’m 50 but got the rc bug at 8. My uncle introduced me to them around 1981 with a Tamiya rough rider. And kyosho peanut rc. I was amazed. All metal rc cars and big and heavy. I would later get a Tamiya grasshopper around 86-but my first was hobby grade rc is 84 Marui Big Bear. Meanwhile I’d get Nikko tyco radio shack rc along the way as my parents couldn’t afford those. The magazines and commercial appeal really aided the attraction. Like it or not Tamiya made pretty rc. The realistic approach with Tamiya bruiser a s speed truck or the 1/14 semi trucks. Also the track killing Tamiya Dyna storm. Tamiya is legendary they just are. My favorite rc brand no that is Marui because of it being the first one and they died off. Sadly. But I love any rc brand that is trying to keep rc in the stay. All of them hence my library of 175 videos and more of various companies. Hobby toy grade I don’t care it all matters to someone and whether it’s Wltoys, Arrma, traxxas, kyosho, Axial,RC4wd, Schumacher, Losi, TA, Graupner,Nikko, new bright industries, radio shack, Robbe, RCl, Mugen, AYK,GMADE,dromida, HPi, duratrax, and even Tamiya along the many others of rc it’s all gravy baby. I can respect that even if I don’t get it. Which I generally do airplanes took time but I now dig it-I can learn to accept it. RC isn’t for everyone it’s just for those looking for escape from the mundane. The creative and imaginative individuals. Even risk takers. RC is to me a world that I find beautiful. Thanks for watching and please enjoy rc. No matter the type or method of play. 🙏

@@LukesVintageRC absolutely! As I said, I totally get that most of you guys have a nostalgic attraction to them and that's awesome, I'm kind of jealous honestly that I don't have it because almost everyone my age absolutely loves them. I was a poor kid and back in the 70's and 80's RC was mosty the realm of wealthy kids and retirees. It was so much more expensive back then. Lol the closest thing I had to an RC was a buggy from sears made by nikko. I was in my 20's at that point, It was a blast and I had a ball with it but it was totally toy grade and left a lot to be desired. I never had any real RC's until I was in my 40's. The first thing got into was helicopters because I was always fascinated by them, so I taught myself how to fly and had a blast, though it was a steep learning curve by myself. My first hobby grade ground vehicle was a buggy from exceed that I still have. It went straight uphill from there, lots of drones, and ground vehicles. I always bought bashers until a few years ago when I started throwing crawlers into the mix. I can't stand nitro or gas.. Too noisy, messy, and fussy for me. At my age I just like to go out and blast a pack without any hassles lol 😂 but I know lots of guys who love them. I love building kits too. I'm looking forward to building the Konghead just to have the long overdue Tamiya experience. Back in the 80's I was a lot more aware of Kyosho than tamiya. And I do have a few of them now, so I'm definitely looking forward to the tamiya experience. I certainly don't begrudge anyone for loving what they love, especially if was something from their youth that brings them happy memories. Like I said, I'm kind of jealous that so many of my friends in RC, especially those close to my age group absolutely love the Tamiyas, and I just don't have any memory or nostalgia of them other than occasionally seeing one in a hobby shop. I certainly couldn't afford one and didn't know anybody that had one or liked them so they were just out of my experience unfortunately. You did an awesome job on yours and I'm sure you'll enjoy it! 💯

@@riffraffsrc I think you will like Kong! 6wheeler -I’d bet gonna bet more to come from that brand. I used to have Exceed buggy but it was a nitro version anyway my daughter has exceed razor brushless 8s conversion very quick. The Drones and Helicopters now there’s some stuff I’ve never tried for some reason not that there not neat or anything but just never think about anyhow-hopefully I’m not making you feel out of place because of the Tamiya thing not my intention -I can seem a bit odd with rc stuff I’m a strange rc dude- have you watched my eclecticism of rc on my channel 😁…I was a teenager who actually worked hobby store and yup that employee when you came into my hobby shop Ed’s Hobby Shop to be exact to browse I’d follow ya and explain each thing you picked up. Owner would literally yell “leave the customers alone Luke”! 😆 if someone left with nothing I was confused too. I do tons of rc videos so I do need a drone for overhead videos. Any suggestions I’m all ears- maybe a nose, eyes, a mouth. 🤪

@@LukesVintageRC as far as drones go, I'd suggest getting a sub 250 model so you don't have to register it. A small one is much better to transport and fly too and draw much less attention. I own an autel Xstar premium 4k full size drone that I bought several years ago and I rarely fly it because it's large and atracts a iot of unwanted attention every time I fly it. Plus I had to register it and all of that stuff. All this regulation stuff is killing the fun of drones. And people are paranoid and suspicious of them🙁 so, the smaller the better. A small dji or autel like the dji air 2, or dji mini 2 or Mavic mini, Autel nano will be perfect for videos. They are the perfect size and have incredible video. I use my go pro and phone camera s for video and wanted to introduce Ariel views but my drones are too big like I said. I may end up selling my big Autel and switching to a new small one. It's a shame too because my autel flies beautifully, has 3 batteries, a case, extra props etc. And the video is amazing. Funny you say Ed's rc. My local shop down the road from me here is called Ed's rc as well! I live in Vienna WV, next to Parkersburg on the Ohio River. I'm looking forward to the Kong build. I've already been looking at paint colors for it😁👍

So bro, honestly I like to do my own thing instead of completely box art as I’ve been for minute or two like everyone does. But the cool thing about this kit and I highly recommend it, you get spares so you can change anything out quick if you need.so color blue is are nowhere near baby blue. You need to see it live-but Robert there’s metal in the blue so just not possible-The bumper on mine is black. So..Your referring to chassis guard that comes with kit in the blue color. Honestly this clod kit is the best one. I own an 87 original red so I’m no way being just bias because of new is better but in this case absolutely. Plus it’s a limited ed. but Tamiya has been known to ramp production and then halt. Tricky company. ie candy green GH. On my channel I never really play by the so called rules to follow for good video format -You have to film the videos in multi stage video format, or you have to use this or you have to do that. Nope never I’ve always let my adhd rule out on my single video of all resto/paint/run formula per rc car truck boat etc. Same idea goes into my random rc restos too. So remember if it makes you happy that’s key right, Preferences are a sticky mess that just rocks or rolls. Flavor or Flavour..😆 thanks 😊

I was kind of disaapointed in the body molding but overall it is an amazing truck. I goofed and stuck two Sport tuned motors in mine and one is running really fast and the other slow due to the timing in them... I totally wasn't thinking about it what I grabbed them. The replacements will be here tomorrow I think so I can actually get mine wrapped up and running! Yours looks really great and I like you did the roll bar in the blue. That looked really cool. The gray paint matched very well also, better than the Tamiya paint did!

Hey Adam, I’m excited for you with this truck. So yeah i originally bought the torque tune myself and they have a timing set. But before I could rebuild one the other came later so I ordered my traxxas 20t motors. As they are zero timed. Definitely wakes these big guys up as normal is 12mph mine is 14mph so I’m good for now. I had fun doing this one and yeah some people aren’t doing anything to the bodies paint wise regardless the issues. I believe RCdriver didn’t do any paint on the body when they did there’s recently but ran it 3S pack on it. Moves nicely looks a tad faster than mine in 2s mode. I’m tempted to 3S mine speed should be around 17mph! Thanks for watching.

Nice work on the clod! Honestly for me, I like the color of the body. To me, the color grey is already nice color and doesn’t need to be painted. I plan clear coat mine.🤣 Didn’t really care for the blue on your roll bars. It looks more toyish, but to each their own! I’m now thinking If I could just find the clod buster black f parts instead of using the cyan blue parts, the clod would look more aggressive, stealthy, and just killer looking. I’m also gonna order a MCI repro 80’s decals and changing the yellow and orange strip, to another color. Gonna think on that one.🤣. I may hold the cyan blue f parts and see if I can hunt some black f parts of which I know is gonna be hard to find. Any who, great job on the clod. Hope to see some bashing videos on the toy!😀
@LukesVintageRC
@LukesVintageRC Жыл бұрын
no worries bro, the only problem with the grey molded body is the molding marks and impressions are visible. Tamiya does require their own grey paint for the body actually I just chose my own. With the body imperfections issues Many people have this problem but if a shelf queen is not your thing don’t worry about that. Nice to see you on the Tamiya kick.😀

I believe you could just buy an adapter off eBay. So the battery is a male connector. the esc itself has the female Tamiya connector. I usually just make my own from scratch as I have tons of different connectors IC5, XT-30 to 90, JST, DEANS, EC2-5, TRX to TAMIYA. You just need to be careful when mixing as it’s easy to get the pos to neg configuration wrong when making your own custom version.

I’m definitely not the first to use it in a clod and won’t be the last lol. I have a stinger in my kyosho raider and my Nikko Scorpion as of now and both run like a beast. Both videos on my channel too and as you know the motor position is opposite on these vehicles. So I don’t have experience with rc4wd brand’s motor but I do have other things from that company. I’d contact the company and see if they can accept a return on the motor. If you need help with anything else let me know I don’t mind helping you out. Take care

@@LukesVintageRC thanks Luke. I remember having the traxxas stingers in my Villian IV. It was water cooled and moved pretty good on 7cells! I wouldn’t mind trying these motors in something else !

Did anyone know that the original Clod Buster had an appearance in the LANGNESE advertisement in the 80´s ?

It's weird that it has those sunken spots on the hood area, the other clod bodies don't, or at least they didn't.

my opinion is the material used or the amount of material to make these bodies are less. It could just be a different recipe from Tamiya but it’s definitely different than my 87. Thanks for watching

I do not support RC Race mixing 😂 those Traxxas part should stay on there side of the track. My grandpappy taught me that.
