Thank you so much for the walk down memory lane. I am a life-long monster truck fan and I remember that when I was a kid I bought a then brand new Tamiya Blackfoot since it was one of the first affordable R/C monster trucks on the market. (The Bruiser came out about a year prior but it was way out of my meager budget.) It was a lot of fun but because it was only 2WD, it just did not replicate what the full scale monster trucks were doing on my TV screen. Thus, when Tamiya released the Clod Buster in 1987 I immediately sold my Blackfoot and put all of the money towards the then brand new 4x4x4 monster truck. I was so happy to finally have a real four wheel drive and four wheel steering R/C monster truck of my own! I still have my Clod Buster today. It looks nothing like it did back in 1987 as I replaced almost everything on it with a new chassis, suspension, and machined aluminum parts to replace all of the stock plastic Tamiya components. I remember back in the day cruising through the ads in R/C Car Action magazine and writing to the companies that you were referring to that specialized in aftermarket parts for the Clod Buster. Those companies like ESP, JPS, APM, Sassy Chassis, and Bennett Equipment are long-gone but many die hard Clod Buster fans still lust after their parts on the second hand market today. They pay a sky high price for them too! I am now restoring my trusty Clod Buster and getting back into R/C after about a twenty year break. I still have everything and I did not sell anything during my hiatus. My Clod Buster still has its ESP Clodzilla IV chassis and suspension kit, Novak Super Rooster ESC, JPS machined aluminum gearcases, axle tubes, and Deluxe Star wheels. Everything still works too and its just as much fun as I remembered! It's great to see that the Clod Buster is still alive and kicking today and that there are still companies that make performance upgrades for it. Some of the newer aftermarket companies during my day like Thunder Tech Racing and New Era Models have disappeared without a trace but thankfully there are others like JConcepts that have jumped in to fill the void. I especially love the new retro monster truck trend with newer chassis kits like the Regulator that mimic the TNT era of monster trucks, an era that I really loved as a kid. I definitely have to build a retro Clod Buster now! Thank you for the video and please keep supporting us die hard Clod Buster fans!

I remember seeing the Clodbuster for the first time back in the 80’s on a hobby shop counter and was blown away by the size of it. I never forgot it. Almost 10 years ago, I had to finally get one for myself. It’s a Super Clod and was a ton of fun to build and paint. It’s great to have one of my own. 👍🏻

I remember being as young as 8 years old when I first saw the Clodbuster. Nearly 30 years later, I still want one! It’s incredible to see this old truck still going strong.

Yup, there was a hobby shop a at one of the near by malls that had one of these is the display windows for a long time back when these first came out and I have wanted one ever since. A few days ago a friend and customer from the LHS I used to work at sends me a random text of the Black Edition he had just got from Horizon.....I ended ordering my own during my lunch break a couple hours later 😳😁

@@RC-ty5ym I'm replacing the stock esc with a hobbywing wp880 so I can use a 3s helios 3500mah lipo I already have, flysky gt5, dual ks-3518 servos, and regulator steering kit. If you only have 2s lipos, it might be cheaper to run the stock esc and some 17t motors, but since I already have 3s lipos, it's cheaper to replace the esc and run 3s lipos than to replace both motors.

Always wanted a Clod, but as a teenager, was too expensive. So I settled for a Blackfoot in 1991. Until 2001, then bought a Juggernaut 2, which I still have.

Watching the old monster truck videos from the 80’s helps you understand this truck. The suspension isn’t stiff and archaic, that’s how monster trucks were. It was all about crushing cars and jumping small dirt humps.

I just got mine and waiting on a bearing kit before I start my build. I do have a couple questions though, #1. Does the original style blower come in the box? #2. Is the Super Clod Buster graphic separate from the silver/red strobe graphic that goes above the belt line?

My 2nd favorite Tamiya monster truck would be the Juggernaut. Realistic looking axles, driveshafts and the transfer case/gearbox in the center of the chassis definitely gives that realistic look to the truck.

I couldn't explain what it is as well as you did but the Clod really got it right, great video. Love the look of the new chassis as well. I've only recently got back into the hobby and Tamiyas in general and now am neck deep in monster trucks, I'm up to 4 clods and 2 TXT2s, hard to pick a favorite though my SMT10 rarely gets run if that's any indicator of how the right the others are. Release date for the regulator? Consider Beta tester with No Limit Monster Truck Racing in Maryland and Virginia?

You just cant go wrong with dual motor on axle Super Clod Buster monster truck. I got a couple of drive shaft solid axle setups, one somehow even turned into a 2.8 Sling King Mega truck, but there is something about that dual motor on axle torque on demand, with no torque twist design. Tamiya hit it out of the park with this rig.

I love the clod, but the only downside with MOA trucks, is that it's almost impossible to run brushless on them. i'm actually a bit surprised that they haven't borrowed some of the tech from the drone flight controllers to run 2 brushless esc's from a single channel for these trucks. axial kiiiinda was on the right next step to try and bring this size truck back, but I think the whole plastic tube cage chassis on their MT is kind of dull, plus it severely limits the body choices available.

i have 5 clodbusters: 2 are for parts, & i'm Very Frustrated with them. i bought the fancy alum. steering rods, the adapter to put servo on front, but can't find the right servo & arm to get steering to work. it works when wheels are off ground, but can't turn them with the weight on the tires. Help! my servo is small but has metal gear, & my rod is alum. i tried it with a plastic gear servo, & it stripped out.i Need to get 2 fixed, 1 is my Wifes, & other mine.

There were a few companies making machined aluminum Clod Buster wheels back in the day. Someone already mentioned Sees. JPS, Design Ingenuity, Tecnaraft, and New Era Models also made them. They all fetch pretty sky-high prices today. I just bought a set of brand new JPS "Deluxe Star" wheels recently and they were not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. I bought a set of the exact same wheels back in the day when JPS was still in business and I thought that they were really "expensive." Those were an outright bargain compared to what I just paid the other day for the same wheels!
