It is the most iconic RC monster truck in RC!! There may be more popular ones now but this guy reined supreme for decades and it will always be the coolest one for me!

It is a really cool color combo and should look really nice all finished. I hope to get that dome today!

They are great trucks and it is as close to owning an 80s monster truck as I will ever get! It looks and drives so much like the old school monster trucks is great and brings back lots of memories of being a kid!

It is a ginormous truck and once you stick those monster tires under it it seems to double in size!!! Needless to say it takes up a lot of the workbench building it!! RC is my therapy! I have always used my hobbies as my happy place and I bounce around between fairly often but RC is always one I come back to as I love it and it provides a great escape from the rest of the things going on. Even in good times it is still nice to be able to drift off into something for a few hours and disengage from the day to day. It is really helpful in the stressful times when you can really use the break. Sure it has it's own frustrations but those can usually be circumvented with a bit if patience and creativity. I got the paint done today and was working on the detail painting late this evening so i hope to get it all finished up tomorrow! Thanks for hanging out and relating to the RC getaway!!

It is so super easy to get wrapped up in the build! I know I have gone out "real quick" and my wife ends up calling me hours later letting me know my dinner is getting cold!! I run my cars way more than I may videos of the cars for the same reason as you. When running for a video you have to be mindful of the car staying in frame and not getting to far away and yadda-yadda... It is much more enjoyable when not filming but I do enjoy sharing it with everyone and talking about them!

Yeah, the sticker would hide some of it but not all of it. The ones on the front I should have stuck some filler into but the paint covered up the vast majority of the ugly! It is a big body and I used the whole can on it so it you are using filler and may have to do sanding and stuff you may want to pick up 2 cans to make sure you have enough.

@@AddamsPlayground I don't remember that situation on the black edition but maybe it's because the grey shows up all the stress marks and the black just hid everything. But ok...good to know...2 cans it might have to be. Thanks! I'll keep you posted. As I'm in Canada we seem to get these items in after those in the USA so I might still be waiting awhile.

It is so very close to being done except I have to remove the motors and run the stock ones f r now. I will explain all the in the video. I forgot I had to pain part of the grill (normally they are chrome and minimal painting needed but this one needed a bit more so I did that last night and can get the body finished today. LOL, always gotta be something I forget! It should be soon though.

There is really nothing comparable to the classic Cod Buster! To me it will always be the coolest looking monster truck as it is a perfectly scaled down OG 80s truck!

LOL I was responsible and ignored the space problem and ordered it anyways!! I am getting to where my garage needs a garage so I completely understand!

It is a nice kit to build all but snapping those otma onto the ball studs! That is a pain and I have not figured out a great way of doing it other than brute force! It should be a great looking truck once I get done with it. I have a few more chores around the house to do and then I can go play!!

Well crap! I didn't realize they were timed motors!! That sucks!! O'well, back to the drawing board on the motor plans. I honestly stuck them in there as I had them on hand already and figured why not. It never crossed my mind about the timing of them. For the paint it TS48 gun ship gray. It is kind of a flat finish blue/gray color. It is slightly darker than the cast plastic color but only slightly. I did find some and got it painted yesterday. I just have some touch ups to do on the details and then the stickers. I will get them done after my to-do list is finished today and I can go play!!

@@AddamsPlayground Edit: Steve (Shen RC) had made two videos about the motor tuning on his Bullhead six years ago.If you hadn't seen them this maybe might help.

Stock it is a single servo driving dual arms, one to front and one to the rear. You can get after market parts to run dal servos, one on each of the axles though. Most race clods or modified one go to the servo on axle set up as you can run the front mainly and then operate the rear independently! If I ever build a modified race clod it will be setup like that. The dual motors are standard and I goofed on my motor choice So I will be swapping the stock ones back in for now. In the next video I will explain all that! These can climb and bounce over a lot of stuff but they drive a lot like the original 80s monster trucks so it is a calculated thing not like going hog wild with an LMT nowadays!

Oh yeah dual motors, 4ws and all the other cool of a 80s monster truck!! They are big and they are a ton of fun to watch lumber and bumble about when driving them!!! I usually make at least one goof in a build but I did the same one over and over again and as soon as I couldn't get the screw to catch I knew exactly what I did, or didn't do and back apart the grease filled axles came!! I laughed at myself so it is all good!!

Yeah, go ahead and get the paint when you pick it up and do not forget the nut that goes in the trans cases and you should be fine. In hindsight I should have drilled a big hole in the bottom of the chassis try to run the wires through to make a shorter run. Do not put in the sport tuned motors though. I made a mistake in that and they had to come back out. the sport tuned have advance timing and one running forward and one running in reverse is not great. The front motor is always going to be running much harder than the rear. You need zero degree timed motors or matched forward/reverse timed motors.

Thank you! From what I understand they were only released in North America but that may have been the initial launch and if they do well then maybe more will be released elsewhere. The black edition on is very cool as well and has the black chrome parts and wheels so it may be a suitable alternative (not trying to be a bad influence honestly)! I just did some late night painting to get some of the details done and should be able to get it finished off tomorrow!

I love the Clod and the special editions are really cool. I wish I had gotten the chrome edition when it came out years ago but did not have the extra $ at the time. So this one is making up for that one! I love how close to the old 80s monster trucks these are. They bounce and bobble around and are not terribly agile and quick so pretty much dead on replicas of them!! LOL

Yeah for just a runner I would not bother with it as the cab and front and rear corner get scraped and scratched pretty quickly. Seeing as this one is going to live a very casual life it is better to paint it and make it look as nice as it can. I did not follow the design 100% and I am happy with the way it is turning out. I messed up and forgot to paint the grill section so that is drying currently. It is gonna loo god all together!

It is a great color combo and a same I had to paint it gray over the gray!! LOL!! it seems so pointless but I was hoping on a shortcut and didn't get it. It'll be done today, I just have to do some minor paint touch ups and get the decal on it. I am excited to see it finished!

Yeah, the ESC is a great one, I just wish since they were making them for the Tamiya kits they would come with a plug that would work for them! Make sure you insert that goofy nut in step 14! Stock a post it note in there saying "don't be an Addam!" Right into step 14!!! 😂

The motor wires as mostly my OCD and not wanting the steering linkage to rub on them at all. For the switch I just clipped it to the esc and left it on, it is so easy to just unplug it there really isn't a need for it. I had planned one running a cheap 35kg in there but I had just gotten a few of the 45 kg and just grabbed one of those. It is way over kill for it but won't have to worry about it. The reason I don't crank the servo saver down is it will cause the plastic to crack on the base of the chassis after a while. It has been a issue with the clod forever. Once you crank down on the servo savers all the stress from impacts and jolts to the steering get transferred into the mounting plate and it gives up after a while. They make replacements for it but this one I want to leave in good shape and left it with the softer setting on the savers. I have an older body to use for running it hard. For lighter fun running I will leave the gray body on but for the track and lots of jumping about the stunt double body will come into play! The Clod has always been a almost prefect recreation of the unstable and bouncy monster trucks of the 80s and they drive much like them! I love watching it bumble around! I am glad to hear you are having a ton of fun with your. I will get mine out this weekend along with the M&M SMT10 and get those run videos posted very soon!

In 1998 when working at hobby shack. Got to drive one in store with a standard serve and msc. Omg have we changed alot in the industry. Thanks for the wear breakage heads up. Ill play now beat on it a bit. Then on to next car. Lol did do bearings, and Team knk screw kit. No other mods planned since it can get out of hand. Great content. You enjoy also. The grey bushing they give you are the longer wearing ones but will still wallow out from the weight of it. I am happy to hear you you are ricking the KNK hardware. I should do that more often as I like their company and the Kirby's are great people!! I agree with you the mods on these are a slippery slope!! You can easily go from a stock truck to a $1500+ modified truck in the blink of an eye!!!

Thank you! Half of the issues was me not focusing on what I was doing and messing things up and the dang ESC fought me to no end! I got it to work and in hind sight I should have just drilled a big hole in the tray and ran them up through the tray instead of the designed way that didn't wanna work! This one is the HW 880 ESC since it has the dual motors. The 1060 and TBLEs would only handle one. For the rest of them yes, I would prefer the Tamiya ESC back but I am going to go ahead and order a bundle of the switches and start soldering on the classic switches to them so they actual work with the kits. I know a lot of folks were excited about the 1060s coming in the kits as you can run much lower motors on them but I build almost all of mine with motors you can run on the Tamiya ones so it really doesn't matter to me, I'd just rather not have to cut wiring on a brand new ESC to make it correct.

They do take up a little bit more room than a buggy for sure!! I did the responsible thing and didn't think or worry about the space issue and bought it anyways! I may have to start strapping them to the ceiling!! I am going to have to order a bundle of the switches and start replacing them tiny switch with a standard one. It is a frustrating choice to make, find somewhere to mount it and deal with it or chop into brand new wiring and replace the included switch. I think being able to mount it properly and have a convenient and secure location to mount it is a better choice overall.

I saw that and it is a fun build IF you pay attention to the instruction and do things the right way the first time!! Go ahead and stick a post-it note on step 14 and label it as "don't be an Addam"!!! LOL!! I missed out on the chrome edition but was lucky to get one of the black edition ones and it a great looking truck!! This one should looks really awesome as well! I guess we all have to hop on a flight to Japan and protest out side of the Tamiya headquarters to get it fixed. More than likely they'd just stop including them all together!

@@AddamsPlayground No worries about the nut for the anti rotation bracket (and those seem to be the first thing(s) to break), I only did that once back in 88. However, if you were going to put a 4 link system on, you don't need that nut. Like you choice of motors but I'm thinking some Super Sport BZ motors (I know, I will have to do some work on them to get them to run proper in the truck).

@@AddamsPlayground I have Old Trinity Speed Gems 2 - Platinum, 13 turn motors in my race Clod, but they are not a good choice, some 13x2 or 12x2 even 14x2 would be better. However, finding good quality 540 brushed motors these days is like finding a drop of water in a pool.

Yeah I avoided the putty and the paint was enough to cover most of it up. Thankfully it is kind of a matte finish so it hides the flaws and it looks better now. It is such an iconic RC and is a perfect example of the 80s monster trucks and there slow, jostling, car crushing driving!

Thanks! I don't get it but it seems we are stuck with it. I have a few that I just turned it on and have left it on and just make sure I turn the radio on before plugging it in. The paint covered the body flaws and it is not a perfect match to the wheels but it is close enough and it has a matte finish which kind of makes it look even cooler. I did goof up and installed the Sport tuned motors and they are not the best choice. The latest video on it goes all through that in detail. Thanks for watching!

@@AddamsPlayground Yes were stuck with it. I just got back into it this year. Even though, with that super mini switch I still enjoyed building that grasshopper, really took me back to 80's. The hole time gave me memories of a boy with dad at the kitchen table building. Any Tamiya rc car will do that. Your clod came out nicely. And I saw that cannonball run lunch box on the shelf lol. Nice !

Thanks! I am not sure what is going on with the QC over there lately. It looks good once painted and it does call for painting all of it in the manual so I assume they mold it in color to reduce the scratches from showing up so badly...

Honestly in 1987 when they released the truck originally, that is what monster trucks were! They were still steel body truck on heavy duty frames and horrible suspension with the giant (and extremely heavy) tires under them. They were giant show trucks and about the most the did was crawl over rows of cars as they were not agile or light enough to be doing the racing and jumping like the more modern day trucks are. It is kind of the reason I love these as they are so true to the origins of monster trucks and they have kind of bouncy, not so great great suspension and are not super agile and you have to drive it with some restraint or it goes on it's lid! They did a very god job of recreating what they had at them time and it is the godfather of all monster trucks in RC! There are a ton out there that out perform it but none that can rival it! I am glad you enjoyed it and it certainly is a relic from yesteryear but then again I am becoming one of those too!! LOL!!!

It is a pretty straight forward build, I just wasn't fully paying attention and did not see the big "Don't forget this part" in there nor did I remember messing it up in the past! O'well, maybe when they release the next cool limited edition one I will remember it, nope, probably not!! LOL!! The stress marks and color swirls seem to be getting worse and I am sure it is from doing things "more efficiently" at the factory (AKA way too fast!). It is what it is and my hobby shop did have a couple cans of it so I was able to get it sprayed yesterday and just got a first bit of the hand painted details done on it very late tonight.

Take the vintage 1986 monster beetle body shell well tamiya used to make them in one complete piece which made them pretty strong ‬the re release monster beetle body is actually made in three pieces and then the pieces are moulded together to make the complete body you can actually see the joins and thats where the weak spots are. A model shop guy i used to know told me that.👍🏻

@@David-069 I glued the nose of the body to the main shell to try and strengthen it up as the tiny little screws are not enough to hold it tight. It seemed to really help the twisting of the whole thing! The more modern we get the more shortcuts we take. That goes for business and in ourselves quite often. Sometimes the right way is the long way and it may be more tiring but more rewarding to take the long way. I have to remind myself of that all the time!

Sad thing is I have done this on all of them I have built. At this point it is tradition! One time is an accident, the second time is neglect and the third time becomes tradition!! I laughed at myself and pulled it apart and fixed it while shaking my head in amusement!!

Yeah they are something else! LOL, me being a professional and safe RC user... don't turn the wheel to shut up the beep, squeeze the throttle, that works better! LOL

It is a giant of a truck and takes up some room!!! I goofed up on the motors and have to pull them back out and stick the stock ones back in until I get another pain, I'll explain in the video. the body color issues I am not sure whether they are rushing them, I assume so as everything is rushed or have them changed the recipe of the plastics and that has caused it. I would assume it it the first just to be able to crack out a couple hundred more a day but we will probably never know. The paint did help to hide everything and now is one color all the way across and it did help hide the marks in the hood.

It is THE monster truck, the one that started them all!! The Clod Buster was the biggest RC of its time when it came out in 1987! It was re-released in 2004 under the Super Clod Buster name (same truck) and since then they have done 3 special editions. The first was a fully chrome one (I missed out on that one) and then they did the black edition fairly recently and now this gray edition. This one was limited to a North America release only so a much more limited version. I will be doing it in the box art colors which is a gunship gray and black. It is very close to bein done and it looks great!

I did get the paint and just have to get it all stickered up this afternoon once I get my to-do list done and can go play. I think the ESC issue is gonna stay and they are not going to pay extra for the plugs, they'd just stop including them in the kits first. I think unless they start making more of their own we won't see a change.

@@AddamsPlayground I am glad to hear you got the paint you needed and your close to finishing up. I just finished a TT-2 and I have one body, but I am not sure that'll be the final one for it. Sometimes you can paint a body and put it on and it doesn't always look right and other times I feel just the opposite. With your CC02 Bronco that paint looks great.

@@michaeldorich4485 Yeah I have had some dud paint jobs in the past. They didn't turn out terrible but just weren't what I had in mind and did not make me happy. Those are the runner bodies!!

Some paint took care of the imperfections and I did get it finished yesterday, well almost! I have to swap the motors out as I screwed up! I wasn't thinking about the Sport Tuned motors being timed for performance and one is going forward and the other going in reverse so one is always going to be working harder than the other... It may not be too noticeable but I know it is not right and it bugs me!

Thanks! The stress marks in the hood are awful, the rest could be ignored. It is frustrating but was fixed with $8 in paint, well $16 since I bought two can just in case! The paint is a slightly darker great then the plastics as well so I am no a huge fan of that wither but it should not be too different from the wheels, I am not painting them unless I absolutely have to.

Basically what AMK said, it is not needed as almost all of the nuts are the self gripping nuts that bile into the plastic and those don't come loose on their own. I have not had any screws come loose on previous builds and built both with none at all. Have fun with the build, it is a really fun truck!!! It is a true representation of an 80s monster truck and drives just like one!

I was not sure if the motors were staying in and now they are coming out and the stock ones are going in for the time being. I forgot the sport tuned motor are an advanced timing motor and when one is running forward and the other is running backwards they will not be matched at all and will cause problems! So out with these and back in with the stock ones! Once I get the motor thing sorted out I may solder the lines and get rid of the bullets all together. I did not paint the rims, the paint is close enough to the molded plastic color it is not really noticeable the wheels are not painted. If I do decide to these rims are so far from the ground you really don't have to worry about chipping them so that is a bonus!!

Yeah, I didn't even thing about it at the time but one motor is running in reverse rotation as the gear boxes are identical and the rear is mounted in revers so both motors are facing in towards the center of the truck. So you either have to have zero degree timing in both motors or be able to match the timing in both or one will always be pulling the other around. I should have thought of it but just was not thinking the "tuned" part was just the advance timing of the motor!

The color matches fairly well. The paint is a tiny bit darker and it has a matte finish. I am not painting the wheels on mine as they are close enough. However if you did paint them you would not have the normal chipping issues as there is 2 or 3 inches of tire in between the wheel and any rocks or dirt that might chip or scratch the paint!!

I went ahead and painted it, thankfully the paint was in stock ay my hobby shop. Seems to be the only Tamiya stuff they carry! I thought about covering them with stickers but decided to go ahead and paint it. It calls for paint in the manual so just like all the others with cast bodies they intend for you to paint it. I guess they just color the bodies for those that can't paint them or to hide the scratches as best as possible...

@@AddamsPlayground Don't get me started on painting... I just finished painting the Tamiya Bronco body. It was the most painful painting experience so far. I had problems with the body being too thin and my knife going through the body while scoring it. I did not want to use any of the stickers for the black areas including the window stickers so I spent hours masking everything out. I used Proline paints for the first time. It bled under the masking so all the lines are jagged. I also made a HUGE mistake by using Tamiya paints for the black areas and window smoke. The Tamiya paint made the Proline paint REALLY angry. It is like the Proline paint got reactivated and is now really soft. I can scrape off the layers of Proline and Tamiya paint very easily with my fingernail. The areas where I used the Tamiya paint only are perfect. Needless to say, I do not know what to do at this point. I am probably going to end up buying and painting a new body set. Lesson learned...

I think any of us growing up in the 80and early 90s remembers the giant trucks crushing cars and spent hours and hours out running matchbox cars over have a special place in our hearts for these! It is both a truly iconic RC monster truck and is also so close to the old car crushing truck from back then it just is a connection!! The are bouncy, have poor suspension, turn terribly and are kind of unpredictable at times when completely stock and I wouldn't want it any other way!! I love them! That said I would love to have a fully modified on but do not want to pay the crazy amount of money to do one!!

The Clod Buster is the original release and the Super is all the re-released one since. They are the same other than the graphics and the Chevy badging. The steering on them is pretty slow and wide stock. There are things you can so to increase the turning. There are small stops molded into the steering knuckle that bump into the C-hubs, you can trim those off and get more steering. You can also get a heavy duty servo and mount a slightly wider servo horn to it and force the steering a bit more but I don't recommend that one as it stresses the chassis where the servo mounts and can cause cracking of it. Lastly you can get axle mounted servo mounts and run a front a rear servo on a splitter or just from steering. The one is the pricey option. Overall it drives just like an old 80s monster truck with wobbly, springy suspension and a wide turning radius so it fits it very well.

It only comes with the 4 for the gear inside the trans for each axle. You still need about 20ish more to complete the kit. So you'll need to get a beating kit for it. I had enough on hand to put bearing in everything but the hubs so I'll be placing an order and swapping those out as soon as I can.

Yes, I get them cheap and since I have so many cars the cheap part is very beneficial! Not the most current technology nor the fastest but works great for these and anything faster would be lost on my poor driving! LOL!

I hear you. I'm pushing the 10 car limit right now and the receiver expense is high lol. I may get a few of those instead of the SR315's.

Yeah it is unfortunate but it is really hoping on a shortcut really as all their kits (except the Holiday Buggy) call for painting the body no matter what color it is molded in. Most of them except for the hood would have been covered up but those were the worst and in odd spots for decals. Thankfully my LHS had a few cans of the correct color in stock and I was able to get it painted. The paint is slightly darker but not a lot darker than the casting. It is gonna look good though so it'll be worth the little bit more time and effort!
