Fantastic video, thanks for that. Personally the Dakar lost some of its magic when it stopped actually running to Dakar. But that takes nothing away from the skill, guts and resilience of all of the competitors. Dave R is right to call it the Everest of Motorsport. That last shot of the Audi running along the side of the dune was stunning.

Funny having been following The Dakar Rally since the early days when I could only see it via an old Duke Video over and over again. Fabulous video and seriously infectious enthusiasm. Years back coming north from a ski trip, driving on the Peage we encountered the Dakar rally cars heading south from Paris. Every toll booth was the trigger for the cars to drag race not only each other but many of the regular drivers. The police didn't seem bothered at all.

Harry...that was VERY VERY special...Been following the Dakar since Stephane Peterhansel was winning back in the late 80s on the Yamahas and your video is as good as those! Especially with no bloomin background music. Absolutely epic!

I was a kid in Paris when they used to leave from there, it was an insane spectacle. Always wanted to do it, but probably never will. A few years ago I bought a Shogun as a tribute to those days, great car.

Yup. As I have previously remarked sustainable, or more accurately synthetic CO2 neutral, fuels mean that the ICE is not dead and going forward not an emissions problem.

The risk and bravery of the bike riders is on a whole different level to the cars and trucks. Shame it’s become such a big money event , gone away from the original 70’s & 80’s ethos. I guess that’s no different to many other forms of modern motorsport though.

Great video, Harry! Superb atmosphere: excitement, respect, awe, anticipation. I'm not in this league, but I drove the old-school East African Safari twice in the '80s [once 'wet', once 'dry'] and finished both times, but only just (we were eleven hours late on the wet event). I'd love to try the modern Dakar, but tackling those dunes at speed is daunting. It's ridiculous but true to think that even if my car survived, I could be forced out of the event by my sports bra's suspension failing. 🤭

It must be an awesome experience watching and competing in an event like that. A few years ago, were in the middle of Morrocco and were woken early to the sound of serious engine noises just outside our rooms. Turned out it was Team Cummins France, and another truck team and Team KTM doing some training on the dunes around our hotel prior to that years Dakhr. Impressive to watch them thrash around, but more impressive watching the trucks and bike fly into the hotel car park, up on the jacks, wheels off, suspension changed and out again in less time it too to have a couple of sips on the morning Flat White...Bloody impressive, and super envious of you mate.

Used to hate Sebastian Loeb in his early WRC days. Came off as the stereotypical arrogant frenchman. But geez man he really is a machine. Decades now of winning at the highest levels in the most demanding series. Such a hard working and focused indivual. Hats off to you Mr. Loeb.
