We discuss the 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid Sport we recently purchased for our test program. Our experts talk about Honda’s new approach to vehicle trim levels (including the EX-L, Sport-L, and Touring), how the Accord Hybrid has evolved since its introduction, and it stacks up in a crowded field with competitors like the Toyota Camry hybrid, and even the Honda CR-V and its hybrid version. Plus, we answer questions about window tinting, and crash ratings for the Jeep Gladiator.

Did your trim come with blind side monitoring? The ones here at dealers don't have that feature included, unless you get the touring trim. I actually rented a brand new one with 40 miles on it from an Avis dealer in San Francisco for three days. It was comfortable, but not exciting and anyway. Lastly, I like the look of the previous one. This new version, especially in white, looks like an undercover cop car. I do think it's a fine car, but nothing really exciting about. Which is making me lean again towards the Toyota Camry SE hybrid.

I believe the reason why some newer Honda's feel discontented is because of chip shortages, which is sadly still a problem. The window sticker will disclose that certain models will not have Blind Spot Monitoring, which will be indicated by the initials BD(example: Honda Accord EX BD).

I test-drove the 2023 Honda Accord Sport, with those 19" tires, and they were definitely noisy. I finally bought the 2023 Accord EX-L, which has 17" tires, and the difference is definite and palpable in terms of ride-quality.

Given what the car is, the EX-L is definitely the Best Buy. The fuel economy is amazing Vs. The cars with big wheels. Many folks want the “look” these days. Honda is happy to oblige!! I’ve been looking hard at the Sport L but the EXL is undeniably the best hybrid buy out of the offerings.

I'm surprised that not a lot of people are saying this, but I think Honda's disguising cost-cutting as simplicity. Sure, the styling is cleaner inside and out. But there's also fewer trim pieces that gave each trim their own style (ex. outgoing Accord had either matte faux wood or metal trim depending on the trim level). Also, there's fewer features than before. The LX lost dual zone climate control and adjustable rear headrests. The touchscreen on base models shrunk from 8" to 7". Only the Touring has rear seat USB ports (it was on all but the LX before). The CR-V lost the handle in the cargo area to fold the rear seats with one pull (that they pioneered 10 years ago!) What is Honda thinking?

The lack of Blind Spot and Cross-Traffic alert is due to a supplier parts shortage. Rather than limit production output, Honda opted to produce some percentage of Accords (and CR-Vs) without BSI. I agree that Honda has not communicated this well at all, and dealers need to make this crystal clear to customers as they are in the purchase process. I've had an issue with a dealer that didn't volunteer the information that BSI wasn't on a car I was looking at, but I knew to ask about it.

As with the earlier episode on the CR-V hybrid, you inaccurately state the Honda hybrid system uses a CVT. You must know it has a direct drive employing the electric motor and clutching the engine at highway speed. We rely on you to reduce confusion for consumers rather than contribute to it by repeating the marketing directed at the ignorant masses

@21:33 most people only know about ceramic tint been the better option. But look at tints like 3M Crystalline tint. This is considered the top of the line tint but its not very popular and not all tint shops capable of installing. Look in to the technical specs for Total solar energy and other technical specs. No I'm not a tint installer or anything related. Just a car guy sharing info if that helps anyone.

The partner and myself own (2) 2021 Accords, 2.0T Sport and Hybrid EX-L. After seeing the new lineup, we are not going to upgrade anytime soon. Might be our last new cars for a while. What I noticed for the 23' EX-L trim, they removed: fog lights, HD Radio (touring only), no Sirius XM w/in Honda infotainment, downgraded lumbar support from 4way to 2way and wireless charging (touring only). BSM is "available" for an additional fee but not standard?!? With everything getting more expensive yet removal of items/features makes no sense for us to buy newer. As a Honda loyalist, anyone looking for an Accord I highly recommend the 10th generation (18’-22'). Good luck!

I am a little confused about your Accord Hybrid review. This seems more like a take down than an objective critique. The Accord is a mainstream car, not a sports car. The complaints about the restrictions of equipment with each trim level seem small in a big pond. The average car price today is around $45K. The top level Touring Trim is under $40K. Your Sport Trim has less because it costs less. Shop any European brand and see what you get for $30K to $40K. See if you get a 12" touchscreen with real knobs and real dials for all of your climate controls instead of complex touchscreen menus. See if you get the same level of reliability. C'mon folks. Pound for pound and dollar for dollar, it doesn't get much better.

It is not a takedown. It is a factual review. I sold a 2016 Honda Civic within 3 months after buying it brand new because of the non-support of the seats. Within the last 3 weeks I replaced a 2016 Sonata which had fantastic seats. It was replaced with a 2020 Honda Accord hybrid. The only issue with it, is the damn seats. As with the Civic the seat bottom is too short, and it's a little bit too firm. Although I have lumbar support. Will I sell it? No!. Because it gets 51 mi to a gallon on the last couple of trips that I have driven it on. I'm older now and I can tolerate a little butt fatigue, for great mileage.

The 2023 -2024 Honda Accord EX is the best value in price and for longevity. The gas savings on the Hybrid models will be lost when having to replace Hybrid battery, computer reprogramming. Keep in mind cost of replacing Hybrid batteries, plus there's many other components in a Hybrid model that makes it more subseptable to break downs. This holds true for any Hybrid model vehicle of any brand.

18:55 you had the same glitch on the Honda Accord configurator I was getting. You select an ex-L and it shows ex-L, but says Sport L. You selected Sport L, it shows the sport L car, but says Ex-L. I think the styling is less interesting than the prior model. Shame they have dialed back the driving dynamics that the Accord was known for and dumping the 2.0T and 10 speed is a no sell for me. As a 2016 Mazda6 owner I feel sad that the 6 no longer exists, it remained unique in that segment for how it looked and drove. Even more so that the planned replacement was going to be on an all new RWD platform, that underpins the new CX90-but I understand the business decision.

What company gives you flexible options these days? Maybe Porsche. But the rest make you waste money on junk like heated seats and heated steering wheels, when all you want is a safety feature or upgraded radio. Packages are designed to rip you off. I remember in 1985 my parents bought a Mustang convertible. They basically look an order sheet and checked off what they wanted in the car. They got what they wanted, and were not forced to buy options they didn’t want, which unfortunately included the 5.0 v8 and the 5 speed manual.

I love the car. I agree with you guys, the rigid trim structuring is a deal killer for me. The sport L should offer everything the touring does in a blacked out package. No rear vents or USBs on anything but the touring? I’m out! I’m looking at 35-38k fully loaded cars. This Accord and the new Prius Limited are at the top of my list. The Accord is so close to perfection for me if they’d fix the funky trim structure.

Actually rented a 'brand new' Hybrid Accord Sport in San Francisco with only 40 miles on it, this weekend. I was only disappointed, that just like the vehicles on the Honda lot that I have perused, the blind side monitoring, was deleted, from this vehicle. ONLY the Accord Touring is guaranteed to come with blind side monitoring. The Sport and other trims, can have blind side monitoring added by the dealer. BUT, the 'dealers' stick it into a package with junk, that I"ve seen cost as much as $2000 more than the MSRP. I rented a Kia K5 LX in Los Angeles the next day, and blind side monitoring was standard on it. Yet the Kia was almost 4 to 5K cheaper than the Accord at MSRP. Lastly, it averaged only 36 mpg, when I was expecting 40+, at least.

I recently picked up a 2023 Sport HYBRID L. Like you say, you never know what you're getting unless you read the fine print. I assumed I would have rear cross track monitoring, BSI and Sirius XM. I laugh when you talk about Honda seats. I sold a new 2016 Civic 3 months after buying it because of the seats, years ago. My 2016 SONATA, which replaced the Civic had great seats. I sold it because of the publicized issues with the theta engine and it's high theft category, a few weeks ago. Purchased a used 2020 Accord Hybrid to replace the Sonata. My only issue is again those darn Honda seats. My Ex has all of the adjustments, but I can't get comfortable. Too low and too firm, seat bottom too short and with my long legs can't get it to go back far enough. Will I sell it? Hell, no! Why? It has been getting consistently 51 miles per gallon, on any road trips I've taken. My manual Mazda 6 and my old Sonata only averaged 33 mpg. A little butt pain won't kill me.😅

So CR is now upset that you are forced to get better fuel economy as you move up into higher trim levels. Also, as usual CR mis-represents the drive train. It doesn’t use a CVT. Uses a series hybrid set up, that will direct drive over a certain speed.

I’m averaging 46mpg having a blast when in sport mode and have a seat setting that’s all the way to the floor for low center of gravity. There’s no compromise in my opinion it goes plenty fast. It’s faster than when I had a modified FR-s so that’s a win. Stays very stable on tight turns since it does some torque vectoring stuff to keep load even as possible.

The discussion in this episode confused two issues: 1) the availability of safety systems for all trim levels, and 2) the absence of additional options that can be added to trim levels. IMO, safety systems should certainly be available on all trim levels, as we don't want to prevent those with lower purchasing power from missing out on safety. But simplifying trim level structures with few or no options (assuming that all safety systems are on all trim levels) makes the car ordering/purchasing decisions easier. I have always applauded Honda and Acura for presenting their vehicles in this way.

Be warned that the Honda Accord Hybrid does not come with a spare tire, jack or tire iron. It does come with a tire repair kit and an air pump. Just imagine being stuck at the side of the road trying to repair a flat tire where you don't have a jack or a tire iron. you can call for service but will have to wait for hours particularly if you call "After Hours". Honda, the solution is so simple: Put in a spare tire just like the regular Accords. Latest news as of january 2024: You can buy a spare tire package from Honda for about $500.

I feel like there is less incentive to get the car over the suv. This 11th gen is just a boring looking car, it looks like a grocery getter again. Its also big and slow. The tenth gen with the 2.0T is a fun to drive sporty car thats still very practical and roomy. I wish at least they kept the sportier looks with the 11th gen. I prbably will wait to see what the 12th gen offers before getting another accord now.

I think, this review is not an objective one. Not defending Honda. I am actual switching from Honda to another brand. It the following things could be better. 1. Complaining about the lack of the safety features as Rear Cross Traffic alert and Blinf Spot Monitoring are not just a software update. These features require special radar sensors. And they are not cheap. You add them and voila- the price climbs up to the EX level. The entry LX is a way for cunsumers to get a car at the lowest cost. 2. Complaining about a lack of V6 or high power engines is super strange. For sports go to Acura. Honda is a commuter car or a family hauler. 3. A super weird complain about the touring trim not being sold as a gas only car - hybrid is just a much better drive train and it is logical to have the best of the best in the touring trim. 4. Complaining about the noise - please just list some noise level numbers and compare them to other vehicle. Wind and road noise also have different frequencies. List some charts. Otherwise, these comments are too subjective.

I had finally got down to the last two cars and I was thinking the Honda Accord would be my choice. But after going to the dealership and immediately noticing that if you had the same trimline it actually came with or without blind spot monitoring, I was livid. Before with Hondas if you wanted blind spot monitoring you just moved up from one trimline to another. Bud for them to actually now produce cars within the same trimline, and decide to give you or not give you blind spot monitoring for another $600, I think is horrible and I eliminated them just based on that. Glad you guys brought it up so the rest of the customers would know that kinda does not care about their safety, unless you give them an extra $500.

6:20 it’s not about easier buying options, it’s about not having a strong powerful performance engine in the Accord anymore! I’m not overwhelmed with picking between a slow and fast option for a car!

What a strange bunch of reviewers. Totally unimpressed with this. Oh I don't like leather seats with black wheels....

Consumer reports reviewers aren’t really an accurate cross section of the American public at this point if you haven’t noticed. Coastal decadence has prevailed

Not a big fan of the show when Emily is on. Just my opinion.

Life is NOT FAIR! Plenty of brand choices that give you more for your money! Blind spot monitoring is NOT essential ! You have a mirror, eyes and a brain. Now, collision warning/avoidance is much more important and effective.
