There are many many things I won't buy in 2021 to save money but I wanted to share a list of 21 items with you guys today to hopefully give you some ideas if you're interested in going minimalist or you're partaking in a low buy year for 2021. ♡
I also included some mindset nuggets so that you can successfully save money in 2021 as well! Choosing to take control of your finances and spend money more intentionally by creating your own list of things you won't buy is such a fun and amazing way to help heal a retail therapy cycle you might be in, pay off debt, or simply save enough money to where you feel comfortable to live a life that nourishes you.

I am! I will not longer by groceries based on brand and fast fashion products. I am working toward only shopping at small businesses that align with my ethical beliefs!

Yes! I made a spreadsheet and tracked all of my recent “personal physical purchases” (anything besides digital purchases, purchases shared with my boyfriend, gifts for others, experiences, or food items). It really helped to see how much I spent, what I bought, and how often I was buying these things. I included a column to track whether I ended up liking the product, and another column to tag whether it was a new, sustainable, or secondhand purchase. I’m really hoping it helps me with a low buy year!

I am doing a no-buy 2021. If it is not essential, I am not buying it. This is a needs only year! So far in January (today is the 29th) I have spent $4.80 that wasn't bills.

I’m also working on saving for down payment. I decluttered and still have a decent size makeup collection. I definitely won’t be buying any makeup this year and really haven’t in the past 2 years. No clothing just cuz it’s trendy. I’m doing project 33 so unless there is an item I absolutely need, no clothes this year either. Since I also plan on buying a house at the end of the year, I want to make packing and moving as stress free as possible which basically means less things

I'm also doing a buy less year! My hyper consumerism ways have held down my wallet and mental health for too long, and I'm finally making a change in all aspects of my life. I'm particularly motivated by the fact that I'm moving in with my eco minimalist partner (who really inspires me to tackle my issue) in 6 months' time and I really want to have a fresh start and not carry all of my junk with me that I don't need or want. Content like this has been so inspiring to me, I can't wait to watch the rest of your videos, Renea!

I love the way you have really considered what is behind our happiness in terms of relationships with people and pets. You are so right - it’s the quality time, rather than the venue or material items. The pandemic taught me the joy of a picnic in the forest or a hot chocolate and gingerbread man on the beach! I'm doing a low buy year! I'm limiting myself to 21 items in my danger categories - clothes, skincare and books. I am trying really hard to save this year and my limits will help with that but they're really to help me cure my shopping addiction. I've been working on this for a couple of years and am proud of my progress!

I have done a low-buy January without even thinking about it. I did buy some stuff today: my first Stasher bags, the new Infuse mop, and the Tru-Earth laundry detergent strips. We are trying all these for the first time. Otherwise, I’m trying to limit my buying to groceries, gasoline, household and pharmacy, and a few visits to Starbucks after dance conditioning.

I loved this video! You've got some great intentions for your low buy year and I cannot wait to see how it works out for you! I'm a natural low-buy person. I honestly don't like shopping or buying things unless I absolutely need them or need a gift for someone. For my clothes, I try to only purchase them secondhand. If I've needed something for a while and cannot find it anywhere secondhand, I will purchase it new, but thankfully the past couple of years that has only been undergarments [those I want new haha!]. I think something that people don't consider is how much of a difference swapping out single-use items for reusable items makes in your budget, too. For example, cloth napkins in lieu of paper towels or reusable cotton rounds in lieu of cotton pads, balls, and even makeup wipes. It honestly all adds up to a lot of savings, and you're reducing your consumption, which results in reducing the feeling of wanting to consume more things. The fact that it is all more minimal is just a bonus.

Thank you, Erin! 🥰That's so wonderful that spending your money intentionally comes natural for you! hahah yes, I would suggest always buying your intimates brand new LOL - there are some things that should never be purchased used. 😂 I LOVE that you mentioned swapping disposable items with reusable options. I've also saved so much money from doing this and simple swaps are an amazing way to reduce unnecessary waste and be more minimal. Thank you so much for sharing!

I went on a replacement only buy last year for all my beauty products, and I ended up saving over $1000 just a few months. I am currently working on using up everything I have in my bathroom. It has been so freeing to not only see the progress I have made in working through my existing products, but last year was the first year I did not have to declutter any expired products. I also finally got down a minimalistic skincare routine. I know what items I like and what I don’t, and what I am going to sue going forward. I plan on moving at the end of this year, so I started my no buy last year as a way to lessen the items I would have to movie with. Halfway through last year, I ended up extending my no buy to include clothing, accessories, and decor. This year, I plan on reducing my food expenditure on restaurant food, and cooking more to save money. I think, if I keep this up, I will be able to have a sizable down payment for a house. Thank you for some great tips! I am new to your channel, but I am so glad I found you. Thank you!

During quarantine I noticed how many useless stuff I have so I decided to NOT buy any accesories, clothing (unless its necessary), purses or shoes. I'm also guilty of spending too much in skincare and books so no more books for me, and will only buy skincare that I really need.

Loved the plush toy note - We also have an aussie and she destroys plush toys in a few days :/ Westpaw is a great toy brand that has held up and is made of recycled materials. We have replaced all of her toys with just three westpaw items and our girl is completely happy with them. Highly recommend!

I tried a low-buy month (in 2020) since it was a bit difficult for me to do a whole year haha. It felt very fulfilling looking at my bank account at the end of that month. I then realized how many unnecessary items I was buying. After that, I made a sheet where I track each expense and I have been committed to it since then. For 2021, I don't plan on buying useless things I find in online shops (home decor, clothes, etc.). I want to be able to switch into a more minimalist lifestyle which means I have to let go of things that no longer make me happy instead of buying more things that will end up as clutter.

I'm also doing a low buy/no buy year. Generally speaking I won't buy anything I absolutely do not need, mostly I am planning on only replacements. Some categories I'm focusing on are, cosmetics and skin care because I have sooo many extras- I won't buy anything until I run out clothes: replacements only; specially until we go back to working in the office. I basically don't go out anymore so I really do not need anything furniture/home decor kitchen stuff handbags/wallets custom jewlery: this one is hard but I want to focus on pieces that are going to last forever Report for January: success!

A few years ago my boyfriend and I were in the position to trade in both our used vehicles to get one new one ( it was a good decision at the time it saved us money and allowed us to buy a hose ) however in the future we would get a used vehicle when if it’s a year old just to save the money and not have monthly payments!

on another side note. what do you suggest about personal hygiene like shampoo and conditioner, body soup? just curious. i am tired of spending money on items that dont work for me. just maybe a financial advise or if you have favorite products that you swear by.

I am doing a low buy year but I’m cheap so it’s usually a low buy year lol. My treats are Starbucks once a week, boba once a week and take out once a week. Other than that the money is for bills and my kids college tuitions!

You should get the app Notion that’s where you can plan out your whole life and you can put your mouthy goals and your 2021 vision board so your wallpaper on your phone can be anything you want and can you put a wallpapers board on you Pinterest love your content

Hi! I’m wondering if you have any advice- or maybe this is something you related to. I follow a lot of “fashion bloggers” on Instagram. At this point I no longer follow them for fashion, but more so because I like their personality/family/etc. But I definitely feel like following these types of people in some way have contributed to my shopping problem I’ve had the past year. I’m definitely getting better, and plan to get on a good path this year. Do I unfollow these people? I fear I’m going to feel like I’m “missing out” in a way 🥴 I’ve been on the fence for a while now

i am not sure about Goodwill but i know for sure that the salvation army has a inpatient rehab facility for people with drug abuse. The program is free and is for 6 months but the patient can stay for about 10-12 months. just want to throw that out there. Yes, support mom and pops but if you support these org you are also contributing to a good cause.

I can get behind the no treats for my dog. My dog loves blueberries and carrots, however I do have to admit I have a problem buying my dog too many toys. I love his excitement when he gets his new toy. I do have to agree with my boyfriend though that he does have way too many. 🙈

I'm not buying any of these things either. Mostly because I never actually buy them! ;) I replaced my very old and worn out gadgets last year too (although my Kindle is beginning to fault and is going to need replacing soon), and, unless you count a few digital magazines as in app purchases, I never buy any of the other 20 items. Oh, maybe the occasional hair clip, but I don't need any just now. My big weakness recently has been craft items. As a needleworker, it's very easy to stash supplies - esp. embroidery threads, buttons and beads - and, whilst I have nowhere near as many as some have hoarded, I have way more than enough!

I’m trying my best to do low buy but online thrifting has me slipping up 😅 I’ve been selling a lot of my own clothes on Facebook marketplace and depop and I find myself scrolling everyday through these apps. It’s so hard not to buy things that are second hand and cheap and so cute!! But the costs are adding up

Mania are a must for me since I don’t eat out much so it’s a treat for me. Fortunately my nails grow pretty slow and I tend to wear nudes so I can stretch my mantis out for a whole month.
