I am looking for a deadbolt with a keypad and I loved this one. I will buy it. The brand is trustworthy. As Terry says, it looks a workhorse. And the main thing I look for is not to have problems, even losing some features that other models offer. Two things I loved: - Uses a 9V battery and not 4 AA like most, so the replace time will be longer. - The closing process does not use a motor. This is one less point of possible failure and sure makes the battery last much longer.

Best lock I've had, 3 years abd easy to fix. Just make sure when you install it. You install it correctly or when you hit the schlage. Button it will unlock that's way at the end of the vidoe it wouldn't lock when you touched the schlage button.

While I do like these locks, I don't know about lasting a long time. On my second lock. First one only lasted 4 years. Lots of customers complain that these units fail. You press the Schlage button to lock and the cylinder just spins and spins and you cannot lock the door. My current one will do this occasionally. I wish Schlage would address this issue.

BEWARE!! Something none of these BE365 vids tell you is that if the entryway this lock is being installed on has an outer screen door, the screen door handle may very well obstruct the BE365 knob when the doors are closed. Be sure and measure the how far each handle extends into the entryway before installing. You may save yourself some time and aggravation.

Reasons to NOT use rechargeable 9V batteries for this (and other slow drain, extended time applications): Voltage remains steady, but later drops steeply. You get much less 'warning' than an alkaline. If the battery gets deeply discharged while in use, it can be permanently damaged. Either 8.4v or 9.6v rechargeables are actually made up of 7 or 8 1.2v cells in series. If any one of those cells dies, the whole battery is ruined. in slow drain applications, you almost never recover the cost of the battery & charger. They are not suitable for this application (see above) and usually die before you can recover the cost.

I've just installed this lock and it seems to be doing the job so far. However, I had to jam a sliver of wood in the keyhole to prevent picking because of someone compromising every keyed lock I've installed. I do have another time-consuming way to get in the house if I need to. Is it possible to disable the keyed lock cylinder by removing a part that won't disengage the thumb knob from the bolt action?

Whoops, on inside of backplate, you need to turn the black locking pin (above the orange plate) down to lock in place. If you don’t do that, the lock won’t actually lock when you turn the thumb knob away from the hinges

My lever on keypad side seems to have a bit of slop in it. Locksmith said it was “normal” and thats how they are?

Hate there's no way to jump start it from a dead battery from the outside if you can't get inside to unlock it. Guess I'll have to use a bump key.

We found the quality of those has gone down significantly over the last few years to the point we are not recommending them on exterior doors. We are located in the prairies, where we do have extreme cold.

@@isaacsoderlund9677 that used to be our most recommend lock for the longest time. For the last 3 to 4 years they’ve been freezing and and the tail piece would not engage. We’re a bit Northwest from you in Saskatoon, SK. Keep an eye on them.

Great video. Does the BE365 ever malfuncion requiring the back up key? If there is no key keeper in the area, or anyone who can hear any warnings that the battery is about to die. How often does the battery have to be changed? How would you compare this to the wifi locks as far as malfunctions, reliability for owners who live in different city for example? Would a screwdriver open the area to replace key if someone does not have a drill bit?

I change the battery twice a year, when the time changes. So when I change my clocks I will change the battery. It's also the time I test the smoke detectors.

Thank you for the video, it’s very informative., however, Is there any replacement parts? Like the spring. I have the lock for 5 years and it has been unable to latch to lock or unlock from the exterior. I’ve opened and tightened screws inside and adjusted the cam position, checked the springs, but it will worked couple of times then it will failed again. ☹️

That's because of the self-adjusting nature of the spring and motor. Either the spring or the motor fails after about 5 years.

Hi I recently had to get a new schlage BE365 for another door. My older one works like yours in this video, when you leave the house and lock it all you have to do is press the schlage button and turn it to lock. But new one you have to press the 4 digit code to rotate and lock. Is there a way to overide it to lock by pushing just the schlage button? Thanks

You can program in the option to lock via the “Schlage” button. I have to check the owners manual.

I'm looking for a keypad deadbolt with a small-bore 1 5/8" diameter bore. I have a Schlage like the one in the video for one of my entry doors (works great) that is a standard bore size. While vendors still have keyed deadbolts of that size, I cannot find anyone making keypad types. I found a video that explains how to remove the cylinder for small-bore doors, but Schlage does not seem to offer that capability on keypad models. Any suggestions? Thank you.

On their other models they do. Check out the Connect, Sense or encode. You can also make the hole larger, albeit I would recommend hiring a locksmith for that.

Most locks have flaws. The newer versions have Tamper Alarms.

I have these on 5 doors for about 4 years now. I do like them but 1 failed recently. My neighbor has this on his front door and it failed after about 1 year.

This is my combo lock of choice. However I feel like they are lowering the quality. I had two that I installed last year that whent bad in a year. Might be a fluke but when I whent to replace one of them I realized I was out of stock of 11p and ran down to home depot and was appalled to see there version inside was plastic body instead of pot metal. Definitely always get from lock distributor

No, the codes will not be erased when you disconnect the battery. The battery lasted about 3 years before I had to change it.

The quality on these key pad locks has gone down drastically. Get a Connect, Encode or Sense.

Excellent video. I just moved into a house with these installed on the two garage doorways. I have been having an issue using them: when going through the steps to lock and unlock the deadbolt, the mechanism doesn’t always engage. One time, I had to enter my code 5 times before the deadbolt was engaged (the audible click) - has anyone else had this issue? Is there a simple solution to fix this?

Replace the batteries. Check the lock with the door open. If it works fine than the problem is the strike / plate or door jamb. Still a problem, replace the lock.

Not reliable, uses a spring as a lead screw to engage the deadbolt. And when the deadbolt won't be engaged one needs to use the key of course. So if you have one, try using the key because it is somewhat problematic to use and remove as he demonstrates. Also no low battery warning.

Just got this installed. Keypad works fine. Actual keyway is troublesome. Turning it doesn't lock/unlock the door. And when you eventually lock/unlock the door with the key, the key won't come out of the door. You have to force it so hard that it feels like you are going to break the key, the lock, or both. I called Schlage support. According to them, that is how the key is supposed to work.... Really? Like I said, the keypad works fine, but if the battery ever dies in the keypad, I am in for a struggle.

They are quite tricky to use with the key. The key needs to be in a vertical position as does the ‘thumb turn’. If you can’t pull out the key turn it 180 degrees while the thumb turn remains in the same position.

Usually somebody rekeyed the lock or disassembled it and not put together properly. Could be the tailpiece.

What good is a keyless or any deadbolt lock that has an inside finger turner. All you have to door is break the window to the door, stick your arm through and turn the lock open.

A double lock would be dangerous in case of a fire or an emergency to get out quickly.

This is wrong when he says it will last a lifetime: mostly they fail after about 5 years and have to be replaced or you maybe get to fix it temporarily. However, the temporary fixes are all over the internet and they tell you the fixes are permanent. Not so, the self adjusting mechanism inside will not work when the spring is stretched.

The 15 codes are ones you make up on your own using the ten buttons on the keypad. About 10,000 combinations.

I have the BE375 model which is experiencing a problem with the internal spring becoming weak from use or cold temps. Common problem with some possible fixes shown on UTube. Mine is just 4 yrs. old. I would not recommend Schlage electronic locks after my experience.

These are horrible. I've seen them break all the time, they are more of a pain to rekey, and using the key isn't very intuitive. I've had plenty of customers who hook one of these up and have to pay for someone just to come out and show their tenants how to use it.

This lock is a Rube-Goldberg design. In 2018 we purchased three and mounted one on an infrequently used basement door that faces due west. I presume that the sun did a number on the lock as follows. The plastic skin over the buttons split down the middle of each button. Yesterday we discovered that the mechanism would not disengage the front knob. It remained 100% engaged to turn the bolt. This should not occur. The doorway is a low traffic entrance, used perhaps twice a day for one or two weeks in the month as a temporary bachelor entrance. The lock has seen one battery change in 3 years. And a failure now, in the 3rd year. Why I do not recommend it. The repair and replacement cost means the lock costs about $50/yr as it has failed to operate in the third year. The lock should be defective free for at least 10 years before needing replacement. Following the KZfaq videos on cleaning and repairing this lock, I was defeated by the special screws holding the lock together. One such screw had the head sheared off. Which means -- the lock is not able to be disassembled for repair.

I only had one mechanical issue over five years, where it would struggle to engage the bolt. Fixed by lubrication, there are videos. The aged bronze finish eventually wore off, i called schlage and they sent an entirely new unit for free, no hassle.

These WERE great 2 years ago but the quality has declined immensely. The lock just spins and spins. We can't have anything unreliable on our rental properties so we went back to "defiant" brand keyed locks. The first one we bought still works but the ones we've purchased over the past 18 months either is bad out of the box or stops working a few week in.

My lock stopped working after 2 days. It is not the battery. I have seen a few videos to fix it. It is too complicated. My advice don’t buy this.

I will never buy a Schlage product again! This lock stopped working in freezing weather and my daughter couldn’t get into the house! Absolute Junk and Schlage knows it’s a problem!
