Internals did not engage to extend the deadbolt. Programming was working fine.

This lock worked for years with only battery replacement required. Suddenly the outside thumb knob would spin and not activate the deadbolt after I entered the code. I checked KZfaq and your video was the first offered. My issue has been solved. The only difference I found was that there was no very fine pin inside the center gray piece. Nonetheless, I repositioned the small screw with the spring and that was the culprit. Thank you for making this video.

Wondering what is this "very fine pin". Without that pin if it is the tang I am thinking about, it couldn't possibly work. Or I don't understand.

***Short Cut*** The piece that was out of alignment can be manipulated from the back without taking the lock apart on some models. Directly above the tailpiece (rod that goes thru the door) there is a hole, inside there is a slotted piece that attaches to the back of the misaligned piece. Use a standard screw driver to turn the piece to the proper alignment BTW Thanks MIkkyday, I found this by following your instructions. it fixed my problem.

Prior to watching your video I had just got off the phone with customer service. I tried all trouble shooting methods in manual as my lock dial just spun freely. They told me my motor was bad and I’d need to purchase a new lock. Found your video online and dismantled further and found a disengaged spring like in the vid. This was a huge help, thank you, saved me $100.

Here it is 3yrs later, and I knew right where to go ! Had this sort of prob occur with a different Schlage lock and once again found your posting invaluable. Just worth note-ing: on this current lock set, the interior screws have a STAR type security head and, in addition, the STAR heads are 2 different sizes (with the two screws underneath the lock knob being a slightly smaller size than the others). The bit sizes you'll need are widely available, just be forewarned, depending on manuf date (I assume?) you will probably need something else besides a Phillips screw driver. Thanks again, Mikkyday

This was a deliberate design by Schlage. If you read the instructions you'll notice that this feature (the offending part) was designed so that you can disable the passcode and render the lock a typical deadbolt that can only be opened with a key. If you look on the other side of the lock, at the back of the offending piece, you'll notice that Schlage made it so you can turn "on" and "off" this feature using a flat head screwdriver. They probably should not have added this feature if it was going to cause so much confusion.

thanks for the video!!! I was having a whale of a time trying to figure this thing out but quickly realized that I had to take off the inner plate with the torx t10 screws. After opening that up and fiddling with it, I realized that my solenoid wasn't moving the gray piece up high enough to push the pin in far enough to catch the locking mechanism. After moving the spring up and down on the gray piece to no avail, I shot the entire system with a good coating of WD-40. I plugged everything back together and plugged in my code 5-10 times and everything started working perfectly. If anyone else is having the problem of the gray piece not going up far enough, hit it with WD-40 and actuate the solenoid to coat the internal parts. Worth a shot! Thank You!!!

I'm at week 3 and think this might be why my kids couldn't unlock it after school today. I manually unlocked it with the key hours after they gave. I tried multiple stored codes at least 3 or 4 times with the door open after I used the key and nothing would get the deadbolt to engage so it could be unlocked. Thinking this might be the problem. Will definitely try as soon as I have time in the next few days!

We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version kzfaq.infoUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. Great video - my problem was not this it was related to the springs inside- the large spring on the right side needed to be stretched, also took the spring off the little bolt on the mechanical park at stretched it out and put in back in and re applied the gray plastic part on top of the large spring. Now works better than ever. This video helped be take apart the device on a -15 f day... figured it out in 2 hrs... good luck all

@KLondike5
@KLondike5 Жыл бұрын
You didn't need to stretch it. It bunches up over time because the solenoid rotates it left and right and uses it as a coil. There's a slight error that builds up over time until it's too bunched up to rotate effectively anymore. All anyone has to do is lift the tray up a little bit until you see the spring relaxed to its original position and set the tray back down again.

Thanks for this video. I have had the same problem. Another thing to try, as it worked for me this time, is to use the key and try locking and unlocking a few times. Thankfully, that worked for me this time. Not sure if that action of using the actually key and engaging the internal mechanism may have set everything back in place or not, but I certainly suggest giving it a try. Cheers!!!

3 months after installing the lock I finally got locked out of my house today. The pin was not engaging enough and grabbing the lock. after several tries and beating on the darn thing, I guess I freed something up and I was able to unlock it. Once it was apart, I tinkered with the long solenoid spring and found if I moved the plastic part up one swirl on the spring the lock then worked much better. I am guessing I had a weak spring to start with. It's not 100% like it was 3 months ago, but it sure beats paying another $100 for another one. I also wonder if its that little spring on the lock pin that is binding everything up. Before you ask, yes, I have a good battery. Thank you Mikkyday for the video.

Mine's been trouble free for 5 and a half years. Then nothing worked. New battery tried. Couldn't hear any movement within. This vid helped me disassemble it. The pin and everything were ok but the small motor that spins the spring to move the grey piece to engage or disengage the bolt worked intermittently. I fiddled with it, bent the spring a few times and when it worked 10 times in a row I reassembled and reinstalled. Working for now. I can see a motor like that giving it up after this long. My soldering sucks so I likely can't replace it even if I had the right one. I paid $160Cdn for it new but Lowes has it for $104Cdn now. I would likely buy a new one if this becomes unreliable - I really have liked this lock and it's handy for not only me but for houseguests and others to not need a key for coming and going.

thanks for the video, well captured and communicated. I was having a zero function issue, which left to just use the key for locking and unlocking. I disassembled my Schlage and it did not show any signs of failed alignment of any kind. Poor quality parts and springs are likely the bottom line issue. Ibought another one and it was non serviceable right out of the box. I am done with the Schlage gear. For the price you pay for this lock, you shouldn't have to endure the nonsense problems that appear to be the same for almost everyone one here from their comments. Such a let down for a basic security need.

I had mine for well over 5 years with no problems, and only recently my issue was that it sometimes wasn't disengaging the lock properly when locking up, so if I didn't check it and jiggle it a bit to check that it released, it could be unlocked by turning the knob without entering a code. I figured it must be something that could be adjusted, but didn't try opening it yet. Video is very helpful, should be able to fix it easily enough, probably the release spring needs a bit of stretching. This failure is better than the one where it won't open though, causing a lock out.

You can actually engage this with the lockout screw on the back(inside part of the door lock, after removing the casing that holds the deadbolt lock handle), without taking the lock off of the door. If you have it engaged(screw turned up and down), it keeps anyone from using a key to open the lock. I had this same issue when I pulled it apart to find my master code. If you can lock the lock with the code on the keypad and then press the Schlage button, it should allow you to unlock the door without entering a code. If so, this means the lock is installed improperly(the lock and leave feature is operating backwards). With the lock installed on the door, make sure the deadbolt is not extended(should be unlocked, handle turned to the left, away from the door frame, towards the interior of the door), remove the panel that holds the lock handle that you would use to lock your deadbolt from the inside of your home. Then remove the plate that holds the battery(two gold bolts). There is a metal bar extending through this plate and feeds into the lock handle. The hole where this bar comes through is oblong. Make sure this is turned down against the metal plate spring(vertical) and reinstall. This will reverse the auto lock mechanism. Sorry. I'm not doing a video. I hope this is explanation enough. If not, I will reply on here.
