Thank you, Steven Shumey of CE Performance Crate Engines, for everything-making this project possible, and drivable, 329 SBC engine + Tremec TKX 5 speed transmission, from soup to nuts, balls to bones. You're the best. Dad would be so pleased with what you made possible, even taking care of the fender and belt "chirps".

8:25: That’s a smooth sweet acceleration! Building a 283 crank in a 400 block with a 6-71 is a “maybe someday” project Ive been kicking around, definitely fun to hear one run.

Grumpy jenkins was building these same motors, bearing spacers . Said he believed 327 was perfect size. But he played with the small journal cranks in the 400 block . I never heard one until watching this. 👍

You tease us with the short runs through 3rd, but you have ran it all the way through surely on the two day run. Yes, I realize where you were zipping around through town and definitely not the ideal location to be doing a full pull as we say. Being an old mouse motor man myself and knowing the feeling that goes along with stretching the gears to the sweet spots, as well as the sounds they make. Brings fond memories to my heart and a smile to my face. I'd say y'all's pop did an excellent job raising his son's, and with your expertise in what you do pays homage to him. That's what any father wants out of his life's work, and raising one's family is our life's mission.

Thank you so much for those kind and encouraging words! Dad would definitely be proud of what his vehicle is becoming :) Also your spot on with your comments of father’s and their children.

Oh, oh man. That was a very real very cool video. The sound of that engine/trans combo was AWESOME. The talk about fathers goes right to the bone. I have a 283 crank, my 68 impala handed down from my ( original owner) father in 1975. The 68 has been calling for a rebirth, and the gears in my head are spinning again.....better get some grease up there quick. Very very well done. I got to go back and re watch the destroked sbc videos again. Great Job!

Mike, thank you for the encouragement :) We really appreciate your comments and are so pleased your dreaming about gears again!! We’re so proud and happy with this project. It’s come together so nice and the drivability & power exceeds our expectations (by a bit!).

Many of the details are in the show notes under the video description. The heads are AFR 180’s and it is a custom hydraulic roller. Comp Cams lobes are #3314 and #3315 on a wide 114LSA

What is the final drive ratio? It sounds like it's in the ballpark with the 5-spd.

The differential is the stock one still with 3.08:1 from when this car had a 6 cylinder. We are planning on 3.73’s in the near future :) Thanks for commenting!

@@ceperformance I think you are pulling our leg here. You put a world beating LS in there didn't you? Sorry just couldn't resist that. I would imagine that rear is probably an 8.2 10 bolt. If so, I am curious how well it holds up, my 68 Impala has an 8.2 10 bolt. That 3.08 gear should make that combo a highway super star.

You know us! No LS in this combo :) Most likely an 8.2” I think too. We’ll let you know if it don’t work! For now, seems good.
