We just picked one of these up yesterday. We'd bought a house last fall and hadn't cut the grass yet, so it was a good foot tall in places. The Ryobi worked like a champ, given the conditions, and I probably got a quarter-acre cut on one charge through thick grass and weeds that had a lot of moisture in them. Looking forward to seeing how it does cutting when the grass is a reasonable length.

Another feature I think it needs is swiveling front wheels for great maneuverability.

My son owns 7 acres of overgrown weeds, thorn bushes, mulch, and some grass. For the last three years we have been chipping away the years of neglect using only Ryobi lawn tools. I have to say I am severely impressed with the quality, and durability of the tools. I would happily pay for them again if they ever die.

Tom, thank you for providing your personal experience with Ryobi tools. To be honest, I'm a Dewalt fan boy. However l I'm impressed so far with this mower. It still needs improvement, but way ahead of Dewalt push mowers.

@@dubaudiproject861 im glad you mentioned DeWalt. A few months ago I did a comparison video between Ryobi and DeWalt. I've had my 20 inch 40v Ryobi push mower for 3 years now, and its been perfect, I still have yet to see after many many mows over 3 years, any battery degradation. I liked that the DeWalt had the self propelled feature, but in my yard it just didn't help, there's not enough weight on the front wheels for them to grab and pull the mower. I'm considering just buying a couple larger capacity batteries, since that's my only bottleneck, I have the 6ah that came with the mower and the 4ah that came with the weedeater, when I actually get the chance to mow, the grass is a little more than a foot tall, obviously longer grass means less cut time and when I do mow, I mow on the lowest cut, since it gives me some buffer time between mows, more capacity will give me more time.

Nice review. I received my Ryobi 80v 30inch mower this week and have one mowing under my belt, and I am partially satisfied. I have approximately 13,000 sq ft of lawn and it runs from very thick to moderately thick. I like the power this thing has, as it cuts the full width w/o slowing down or bogging. I only mulch and the cut is very nice. I can run it over the mulched areas of my landscaping and it doesn’t pick up wood chips like my Honda 21-inch mower does. I wanted a 30 inch so I could cut my mowing time down in the heat of the summer because it was really fatiguing. Now for the dissatisfying stuff. I wasn't able to finish my mowing and got only 65 minutes of run time. I hope that is because I didn't leave it on the charger after it reached 100% or the battery has some kind of break in time. However, the thing that was eye opening is how much force it takes to lift the front wheels off the ground to turn. I measured the force to lift the front wheels today by getting on a scale and lifting the wheels off the ground and measured 31 lbs. WOW! Even though I finished my mowing faster, I seem to have traded my marathon walking for an upper body work out. Turning this thing is a bear. Your wife must really strong, because I felt the burn after mowing my yard. Well now the retired engineer in me is looking how to minimize that force to lift the wheels. I am going to add some weight to the handle bars or put weight in the grass clippings bag to counter the front-end weight. 15 to 20 lbs. will reduce the force to lift the front wheels and make turning easier with or without the front wheels on the ground too. Those wheels also are pretty grippy too, so I am going to place tape on the front wheels and make them slicks. That should help when trying to follow landscaping curves when lifting the front wheels off the ground is not necessary. We shall see in my next mowing. I also plan to change my mowing strategy by mowing the front and side yard in one big racetrack layout. That way I won't have to turn it 180 degrees as much. I will see in my next mowing if any of this helps.

Ron, Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feedback. You are dead on with turning this mower. My wife and I actually took the mower on the driveway and tried different ways to turn this thing. I was about to return the mower the first week because how clumsy it turns. However, we wanted to give this a shot and remind ourselves that this isn't a 21 or 22-inch mower. We found that shifting our body weight downwards on the handle and then pivoting the mower works best (for now). The concern is the handle and the long-term impact. Like what you mentioned, we had to change our game plan on how we mow the lawn, which is a pain. I feel Ryobi should have made the deck sideways instead of diagonal to make the length shorter. That way, you can get up to the edge of the lawn and have more room to turn. As for the battery, I had 15% the first run with mulching. But on the 2nd mow the battery ended up dying before I was done. It might have been with the heat and the fact the mower was running with the blades on high because of the damp grass.

I just saw one of these for the first time at Home Depot with a price tag above $1800.00. With the cost of a second battery running around $800.00, I could purchase four new Honda 21-inch (HRN 216) gas lawnmowers @ $549.00 each and still come out cheaper than this product. The Ryobi price point alone is a non-starter, much less replacement costs for extra batteries and the eventual replacement of the entire unit.

One thing you did not mention was the price of the mower. It's $2000.00 dollars , for the average homeowner thats a lot of money. When you can spend a 1/3 of that price and get a nice 21-22" mower that will do just as good or if not better than this mower. Only upside I see is the 30" cut, which is nice but then you can get the toro time master for a few hundred dollars cheaper. This is just my opinion, thanks for the great review.

$2000 is a scam. I bought an ego lawnmower in 2017, and I purchase the display model, since it was the only and first electric lawnmower on the market. I bought it for $650 plus tax but they include a $250 discount for taking the display model. So all I paid was $400 out the door. They include 2 of the 5ah 56v batteries. I have about 0.25 acre of land and it takes me about 45 minutes to mow using both batteries and recharging them frequently. For this mower, the maximum cost it should cost is $800, maybe $1000, but that's a stretch. After a few years, the batteries begin to fail and that happens among all electric tools and vehicles. No wonder everyone hates electric cars and all electric trend.

The overall cut is great. The crosscut blades are working as advertised by RYOBI. I haven't noticed any clumping. It also doesn't leave a trail of grass clippings like my 21" and 16" mowers. So far the mower doesn't bog down when mulching or bagging thick damp grass. I usually keep my lawn manicured and not let it get out of hand.

It's honestly impressive how these electric mowers( not just ryobi) manage to negate a key advantage of electric (simplicity) by over complicating the device. Multiple safety devices, modulating power level based on feedback from the blade. Unfortunately, these things will make them just as likely to fail as a gas mower.

@@XanafiedcatGaming The only thing is they have some reliability issues and are EXPENSIVE to replace. Also another huge fail is if they do fail within the warranty period.... the next one has no warranty even if still within the original warranty period. So basically one replacement, if that stuffs up or dies too bad. That is kind of terrible for such an expensive product.

When the motor is at regular speed it sounds like a box fan. You can still have a conversation with someone next to you. When the motor is at the faster setting it like a box fan at high setting. You can still hear the person standing next to you but you have to speak louder. Another way to look at it. It sounds like a neighbor vacuuming their home with the windows open.
