Lisa is being modest. That is no easy lift. Nice ending.

Thank you Lisa. For a small thing you sure are powerful. You made that canoe jump right up like nothing very impressive. Another sign of a experienced Maine Guide. Thank you for the video an your time. God bless an stay safe.

Thank you for passing on the traditional ways of doing things in the Northern woods I really enjoy this channel. With your help, I have adapted my own "Wester" style of packing a boat to the Northern way of outfitting my Canoe. It's a more logical system tested by time.

It’s all in the technique. Thanks for teaching us how it’s done. You’re the best.

Rob, you’ll notice I adapted my technique for me. See how high it get the boat (above my belt) before it goes on my shoulders, I could never bring it to my shoulders from my knees or legs, too much arms, too far to lift. So I go high and pop it up with my stomach muscles.

@@Mainepolingguide thanks Lisa, I did notice that technique on my 3rd watching of this video. I’ve got an Old Town Discovery 158, in Royalex, and it’s a challenge for me to get up and onto my shoulders, for the same reasons as you mention. In my younger days, on a multi-day trip in Quetico, I took that canoe. Once I got it onto my shoulders, I found tree crotches to set the bow, while I rested. No way Was I going to put it back down on the ground if I could help it. I’m gonna give the tumpline and modified lifting technique a try. I’ll make the tumpline fit adjustments using tree crotches as rest/adjustment stops. Thanks again for teaching us these tips and techniques. I get a lot out them, and put them to practice.

@@rcote1234 Rob, do our trick of resting the bow of the canoe in a tree to put on and take off the tumpline from your head. Much safer. Thanks for watching.

And this, boys and girls, is why I can no longer portage. My neck can’t safely use a tump line anymore. That canoe looked heavy enough to kill a mere mortal lol

I can imagine tripping, the tumpline ending up around my neck, then snapping it- my neck that is.
