We are Brian & Jessica, a married couple who started on a life-changing whole food, plant-based weight loss journey back in June 2018. In June 2022, our lives were flipped upside-down when Jessica was diagnosed with Stage 3 ovarian cancer. We continue to share our adventures (highs, lows, struggles & everything in between) in following a plant-based diet while keeping you up-to-date on Jessica's cancer treatment.

So good to to hear everything you both had to say. Thank you for explaining how the depression effects you. The fact that your husband is in tune with this part of you is amazing and huge. His support is something I wish for but it takes someone very special to understand. Take care and I'd love to see your garden. Try some essential oils for your hair to hopefully tame it to your liking. I think you are cute!❤

Agreed! I grew up in the 60's when long straight hair was the thing, and spent years fighting my curly frizzy locks and trying to "control" it. Until I realized it could be a gift if I let it and learned to embrace it. I think as it gets longer the weight will relax some of the curl, but whatever. It may be different for you but it really is beautiful!

Two-time cancer survivor here - cancer is definitely a life-changing event. There is the person (and loved ones) before, and then the person (and loved ones) after. It is an exclusive club we belong to, and those not in the club are unable to understand why we don’t just wrap things up and move on. I don’t think they are insensitive-they just have a different frame of reference. You will both find that cancer becomes integrated with the rest of your life. And in the process you will start to feel whole again. Congrats on the scans, on the garden, on the positive improvement from a new medication, and on the more relaxed demeanor emanating from you both!!!!

Jessica! The hair! Adoreable! I’ve been a curly girl all my life. It’s indeed a mixed blessing. Welcome to the curly club! I’ll be turning 70 next month and have actually been at peace with it for more than a few decades now. My secret weapon for moisture and humidity is actually called Frizz Ease Secret Weapon! It’s a leave in conditioner in a purple tube by John Frieda. I put it in my hair when wet. Also sometimes as a finishing cream when the curls are a little more dry or crazy. It’s reasonably price at around $9 and is at most pharmacies, Walmart, target, etc…. Good luck on your coming life chapters. So happy for your success, post cancer. I’m also a cancer and chemo survivor from breast cancer. Keep on smiling! 🌺

"Replaying the scenes" ...this hits so close to home. I recently got access to a portal of my medical records since I was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer last August. I made the mistake of reading through the doctors and nurses notes. I replayed those moments and the ones that I repressed. In the moment I felt incredibly overwhelmed and sad. My dad and I hugged for a few minutes and he reminded me that it was a record of all that I had overcome and that it was okay to grieve what had just happened to me. I think I'm beginning to truly understand the phrase "this too shall pass." The scars and memories are still so fresh. Let's be kind to ourselves. Hugging you both so tightly from afar.

When you said that you have to live a different than people who haven't had this happen. I understand what your feeling. But here's another way that might work. You're back to start one. Live as if it never happened as much as possible. Don't hang on that next scan. Live your life as if nothing has happened if you can. It's a massive learning curve, Easier said than done. But right now you're just a person who's growing curly hair l o l. Please don't think of yourself as anything differand or a manifest something of is something other than you're well. It's the thought process in this dress that does the most damage I am convinced. Work in your garden, Love your husband! Enjoy life you're here and things aren't any different at this moment. Don't go past the day that you're and as much as you possibly can again like. I said it's a learned behavior. I made so many comments here that i'm embarrassed. But I have dealt with this in more than one way with myself and other people. And the people that do the best are the ones that just go on. I know it's hard. But then again it's just as easy. And like that dear person next to you said you're doing great. So many things happen to us during living. The only thing we can do is keep going forward and living in that exact moment enjoying everything we possibly can. And from an outside perspective you seem to be able to do that well. So you have a good start in that process i'm trying to explain the best I can. Don't live as somebody with cancer when you've been given a good report. Take it and go! Find that hair gel.

This is SO helpful to so many.. the cancer part, waiting, blood work, scans, ongoing …. And your anxiety. Since millions of people deal with anxiety and depression, discussing this in depth is extremely helpful. You do it in such a way that it’s very relatable. So thank you. Everything today is good, that’s what matters. I’m looking at the next two weeks testing for my monitoring appointment for my Lymphoma /Leukemia. I’m 2 1/2 years from diagnosis and W&W(watch and wait) no treatment yet. I’m the gal that was caregiver for my husband for over three years. He lost his fight 14 months ago now. I turned 75 on May 1. All we can do is keep the faith, try to keep busy. I suffer from the number one complaint of my diagnosis Extreme Exhaustion. I listen to my body and take a rest when needed. Your outdoor garden is a blessing. I too am gardening only all in containers and a GreenStalk. It’s my blessing. It’s just me and my Kitty M&M. Daughter and grandson are here for a visit. I think your hair is adorable, like Brian said Super cute. Hugs and continued prayers. 🤗🤗💜💜🙏🏻🙏🏻

Jessica I just had my 6 month checkup. Everything you are saying I am feeling just like you. Everyone thinks I should be kicking up my heals because I’m cancer free. But I have neuropathy very exhausted after work. And the hair is totally crazy 😜. My hair dresser cut it twice just to get the fuzzy ends off. She told me to us Morocco oil and hair gel in my hair. It has helped keeping it a little less wild. I always had curly hair but this is crazy 😜. We just have to let it grow so we can actually have a hairstyle. I think of you very often and pray for you daily. Listening to your story makes me feel not so alone. I wanted to reach out to you to tell you that you are not alone. Sending 🙏🤗❤️.

My hair post chemo/radiation came back in wavy vice stick straight but came back in my normal dark brown. My mothers black hair came bqck in post radiation wild and crazy gray. So its all very individual i think. Sometimes after all the medical issues have been resolved and there is a sigh of relief the aftermath can have its own issues like worry about the future and every odd symptom can contribute as well as a view of ones own mortality. Ive been there but ive found i can get past this sometimes by just doing things i enjoy-gardening/reading/enjoying my dogs and my little wildlife and barnyard buddies and my family and music. It helps.

Something that I’d enjoy seeing is videos of you gardening, via shopping for the seeds/plants, general garden planting, tending & progress. Jessica - If you ever start to feel the blues hitting you, I’d suggest you pull up your videos, with the volume turned off, & just sit & watch how Brian looks at you. That man is madly in love with you. I know when feelings of depression set in there’s almost nothing we can do but go through them & wait them out, but maybe those Brian looks of love & admiration might ease it just a touch.🤍 Again, wonderful to see your post! 🙂

People would KILL to have hair like that! It's absolutely gorgeous. You are a natural beauty. Use hair creams/oils to tame it and keep the frizz down, but you are very lucky to have such great hair -- from my humble pov :) And you look great in the pixi cut. Yay! So happy for your good medical news. Very very happy for you both.

Thanks for sharing the update. Wishing you both much health and well being! It would be fun to have a garden tour, learn what you eat in a day or for you to share some new or favorite recipes. Also, sharing about your journey - from meeting, marriage to weight loss/weight gain and life experience has been a special part of your channel...So, thank you both for sharing such personal experiences 💓

You two have been through so much, and because you've shared so much with us, it feels like we're almost your friends now. In terms of making new videos, maybe ask yourselves, what would we want to share about what's been going on lately with a good friend? It could be a new recipe that you're really loving, but it could also be a reflection on something going on, or a lifehack or insight, who knows. But we're all rooting for you two to be as happy and healthy as possible and would love to continue to hear how you're doing. Thanks for the update :)

My hair did the exact same thing. It got really curly and quite gray (even grayer than yours). It settles down after about a year. I chose to get it trimmed and cut the curl off as it got longer. Eventually the texture went back to normal (wavy) but the I am still a little more gray than before the chemo, however, I am 58. I chose to color my hair, as I was highlighting before the cancer. Be patient and it will get easier!! So glad the scans came back with good news!!

My hair did the same thing. It was utterly crazy. Went to a stylish-thar didn't get any better. A friend gave me some super duper hair jel to keep the Mohawk looking parts tamed down. By the way, your hair is the cutest I've ever seen it. Maybe the hair can be celebrated for its cuteness. ?? Anyone who had gone through this is NOT putting a bow on it. It took me about 3 years for the panic to stop. It's been 6 years now, I am way more relaxed, my guard is not down, but, the anxiety is just a low hum instead if a roar.

Jessica, so nice to see you and Brian back on YT. I think your hair looks really fine, I like the curls and thickness. My hair is super fine and thin, so I think you are lucky with your hair. I am glad you are feeling more yourself now and that your depression is lifting somewhat. I would love to see more cooking and gardening videos and obviously keep us updated on your progress moving forward too.

Great news about your scan results! Menopause has been kicking my ass and I can't imagine going through it while also recovering from a cancer battle. My doc is also starting me in the same medicatiin you are switching to, and the main menopause symptoms it is supposed to help are hot flashes and hormone induced anxiety. Fingers crossed it helps us both. I would love to see a tour of your garden in a future video. I am always super impressed by anyine whi can grow their own food.

It looks pretty decent in this video, but on our next live I'll share some photos of what happens after it dries all the way and I'm outside in the humidity 🤣🤣🤣 Just thankful to be here at all ❤ but honestly being bald was way easier LOL!

@@KrocksInTheKitchen Hey, one of my friends keeps her head shaved. If you'd prefer the bald way, go for it. I've often threatened to shave my head except I'd look like Uncle Fester if I did so. Life seems much easier without having to deal with hair. I'll bet you'll love your new hair texture and color once it grows longer.

Thanks for the update. You always turn up with a video about the time it occurs to me that we haven't heard from you in a while. I'm glad the scans were good, and I hope they will stay that way. As for new content, I'd love to see you doing recipes again. You've said you have some already recorded, so I'd love to see them and maybe some new ones!

Honestly Jessica, I think your hair is the cutest right now! I would keep the pixie and just keep it cleaned up around the edges. You seriously rock this look and if you feel you need to have a little more control of it then use some paste. Happy to hear everything is finally on the right track. Busy yourself like you're doing with work, garden, family and some new recipes. We're here waiting for the kitchen stuff again. Much love & big hugs!! ~M

Give yourself some grace during this time of healing. It took me over a year to be able to speak a full thought. The brain fog was horrible but it goes away…slowly. You are moving in a positive direction but give yourself time to let your body heal on its own time. ❤

Earrings add pizzazz!(I never leave home without them.)As far as content goes, any topic is fine with me. A casserole recipe would be nice for the fall so there’s plenty of time for that.
