She was so young in age but performed in such a mature manner and was able to keep up with Sergei! It blows my mind that she was traveling the world at 11. I am sure Sergei recognized Katia’s focus when it came to her drive to get better and it challenged him to do the same. Once the coaching situation was dealt with there wasn’t anything or anyone that was going to stop their achievements. They were just incredible! Miss them!

Gordeeva & Grinkov were such a GREAT AWESOME team when they were skating. Saw them several times in person. Such a very very sad ending. You also have a hard time beating Scott Hamilton, he introduced some many things to ice skating.

Every single time I watch this, I’m amazed. Amazed by their lovely talent and their pure beauty and grace. They literally just float across the ice, as Peggy Fleming says here. And amazed at how especially AWESOME Katia is here at such a young age!!! I mean, look at both of her girls. Even Liza Kulik, at this age that Katia was here, didn’t have the same level of perfection that Katia had at age 16. And that only goes to show how phenomenal, how one-in-a-million she really was/is. And like they said, Sergei is also just as phenomenal. He is talented enough such that he presents Katia so that she can shine and do what she always does best. And THAT is the heart of a true partnership - being strong and confident enough in your own abilities to allow your partner to shine in hers/his. What a pair these two were. Never again will there be another pair like them......never again......

At the time, I thought how moving and beautiful they were, how infectious their joy was, above and beyond their technical skills which were also amazing. I love how Peggy Fleming is free in her positive comments, which was daring of her at the time given the negative sentiments at the time, yet look how wonderfully their artists were supported and thrived. Today, I feel that the skaters are more wooden and don't exhibit or inspire such great feelings and passion. G&G are so full of life, and it is the stuff of fairy tales to see such a handsome prince able to lift the princess in the air as if she were a feather. Absolutely legendary, looking back and above and beyond those before or after... It is amazing the foresight of this coach pairing these two beautiful children together... I'm glad Katya found happiness again also... I think Sergei must have been an angel on earth. He looks as good and kind as he is beautiful, strong and dashing...

I think Sergei was such a superb and graceful skater, athletic yet graceful, rarely seen in a male skater. Of course she as well very artistic, yet he was a stronger, better skater I feel. I haven't seen ever so much passion, grace, and tenderness on ice ever.

Wow look how young she was. That's amazing. I can't believe how amazing they were together and how healthy Sergei was. Now it's very hard to watch this without remembering that fateful day. I feel so bad for Katia and Daria having to go through his absence every single day. Poor Daria was only three years old at the time. I'm so glad that they've come this far. Nearly 22 years since his death, and they're still going strong. I'm very proud of them.

I thought he could understand English but did not want to speak it til he could do it very well. From what I heard he wanted to be able to speak it good so he never spoke it but he did say merry christmas once

i really appreciate how clear this video is. their last encore showed how innately musical they were, even at that young age. they were a beat ahead of the music, but they still managed to end their skate to the end of the music with just a minor adjustment. other skaters of their age would've scrambled or not known what to do.
