I’ll be honest with you, Chris. I liked the old Ghostbusters movies, but they were a product of their time. I feel like interest has diminished in this franchise because they need to reinvent themselves. Going the horror route could refresh that interest.

Edgar Wright needs to direct a Ghostbusters movie. He knows how to perfectly blend comedy and action. It would be awesome.

Having just watched the film, I agree with this review on every point, which is unusual these days. I felt like this was - intentionally - the "comfy pair of slippers" kind of film that rewards long-time fans and doesn't alienate casuals. I loved the additions to the lore, I thought the characters were great, but I agree it felt a little overstuffed. There was so much to explore but not enough time to give it the attention it deserved. I especially loved that Ray, as a legacy character, wasn't just a cameo. He really drives the story and gets some great moments. Poor Trevor got kind of forgotten, but he did have a few good moments. Phoebe's arc could make or break for a lot of viewers. I personally didn't mind it and felt it showed her character starting to really grow, but it could have used a bit more breathing time. It was a very low-key story thread in a story that was full of big moments - it has a very important function but the viewers need to be patient to get the pay-off. It's not going to satiate the fans who think Ghostbusters is just a Bill Murray vehicle (although I will say this is the first time I have watched him as Venkman without cringing because he gets to be funny without being sleazy). This is for the fans who want to know that the creative team understands and respects the franchise. Sadly, that means it's not going to be a blockbuster success, especially beciae Sony threw all their marketing money behind their latest Marvel flop, hoping to catch the last dying breaths of the superhero boom. With a bit of luck we will get at least one more GB film to round it all off, but, if we don't, this feels like it could be a graceful exit for the boys (and girls) in grey.

Besides the trailers it’s weird cuz I haven’t seen any marketing like when Afterlife was coming even during the pandemic everyone knew a Ghostbusters movie was coming

It's a good thing that Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale hold the rights for the Back To The Future movies so Universal Pictures can't make more of them unless both Zemeckis and Gale are dead but it could still be prevented from making more if Zemeckis and Gale passed the rights to their children

I also want to thank you for slightly disagreeing that Ghostbusters is first and foremost a comedy. GB has been the love of my life but I never understood why people say Ghostbusters is a comedy, yes it has comedy in it but at its core it is a mixed genre movie.....its not just ONE genre

I saw it and enjoyed it. I did get the feeling that a lot was going on. I wasn't prepared for so many new things in the universe. The nostalgia is there, but it isn't relied upon much outside of the usual equipment, which does sport some upgrades, and a few ghosts. If the studio does a Blu-ray print, I will surely have it on my shelf of Blu-rays. I also think it may be unfair for me to judge it because at the moment, I am in my final semester for VFX for film and games and there are A LOT of things on my plate, so those things were on the back of my mind as I took a moment to try to see the movie today. I think I might actually go see it again when I get a moment.

Just got out of an imax screening, and there were less than 50 people in there. There were some slow points, but overall, it brought a tear to my eye. I'm very happy with it.

No franchise is safe

Going to see this because of 2 things. 1. Mini stay pufts are back! And 2. Walter peck is in it.

What made ghostbusters great was a small cast and tight writing where everyone had a purpose and moves the story along. Every character is important to the story. If the cast is bloated, you just have another Marvel movie. People are tired of Marvel movies with 57 cast members. I’m cool with expanding the world but too many people with no need is concerning.

If it’s any consolation both end battles with Gozer and Vigo went by pretty quickly and there really wasn’t a build up for either one. They were talked about here and there through out both movies and Vigo was shown sometimes but there wasn’t much. Still 2 very awesome movies though and my favorite movies of all time at that.

The new team worked well in the last movie, they really don’t belong in this one. When you think about it more than half the team are kids. It just doesn’t make sense for the plot here. It seems the film makers don’t even know what to do with the legacy characters and they are just there at times. I enjoyed Afterlife very much for what it was, a movie to honor the franchise and especially Harold Ramis and his character Egon Spengler. I was excited for us to go back to New York and have another Ghostbusters movie like the older ones and this one was not it unfortunately. I don’t see this doing well which is a shame and who knows if we will get another one down the road. It took them decades to get these two off the ground.

Agree. Additionally, there were scenes in the trailer not in the movie such as the team on the roof and one of the characters being frozen.

This was a competent, and fair review far more than most of the channels I’ve been seeing the last two days. Most of these channels really just want the OG GB’s cloned and deaged so they and only they can be the Ghostbusters from here until eternity.

I think it’s about where you’re from in the country. Because you may not be in a major city or on the East Coast or West Coast you didn’t get marketed to as much. There is a ton of marketing for the movie out here in Los Angeles.

Ghostbusters 2016 was hard to top but Frozen Empire “busts” it away !

I just watched it today. It starts out good, then begins to drag, then it drags, begins to get better, gets better, and ends pretty good. Overall, it’s pretty good. I think the director is still learning the ropes, building the characters, and I hope it continues.

I hope Ghostbusters 5 is a complete original story where we begin with the legacy characters than they die where the new ghostbusters have to bust that ghost and become a new segway for the universe

For the ending You gotta understand that the first 2 Ghostbusters movies both had crazy and fast paced endings that make no sense on paper

One thing I was quite pleased seeing was the 2hr run time! Most movies these days are pushing the 2hr30+ run time... That said, after hearing your review, do you think this movie would've benefited from a longer run time? Avoiding trying not to cram everything in and just take it's time?

Just got out of it. Feeling like the only one who REALLY enjoyed it and the new things they introduced into it.

I pretty much agree completely with this review. It was enjoyable, but with a few tweaks to the pacing, and trimming the fat, it could have been an awesome addition to the franchise. As it stands, it's a fun experience, but could have been great if it got out of it's own way.

I liked afterlife better. Some concepts of it were neat visually. I just feel the first one was better written.

This was the ghostbusters movie I was wanting too. It was fun and entertaining. You will probably like it if you liked ghostbusters 2 and afterlife. If you just like ghostbusters 1, it may not be for you. The thing is will anything going to compare to the original? No. Does this movie provide an interesting story that doesn’t rehash ghostbusters 1 & 2, heck yeah!

My honest review (Plus spoilers): It’s a step up from Afterlife, amazing new ghost designs, awesome new tech shown off, Slimer the Goat is back, the new and old cast is both great scenes together and apart and the humor is fantastic. A solid 8.75/10 The subplot with Phoebe and Melody is a bit of a headache and I wish the Firemaster stuff was more fleshed out, same thing with the final act.

Honestly, Gozer and Vigo were defeated in about the same amount of screen time as Garraka, but those felt so much more fulfilling. I still can’t put my finger on it. When the movie ended, it just felt like wait, what just happened??

I really wanted to love this movie. I saw the trailers and was soooo hyped for it, and then I saw the movie and it just didn't meet my expectations that much. Don't get me wrong, it was good, and I enjoyed it, but it was held back by the confusing pacing, and too many characters. We had the Spengler family from Afterlife returning, Paul Rudd, and for some reason, Podcast and Lucky were in NY too, we had the OG Ghostbusters and Janine, and then new characters like Kumail Nanjiani, James Acaster, Emily Alyn Lind, and Patton Oswalt. This movie had a very big cast, and I liked it, but it felt too crammed and hard to keep up with. Judging by the trailers I thought the city was gonna freeze over much earlier in the movie, but it happened so late. It was fun to see all the new ghosts and Slimer, and I thought Garraka was a really cool and menacing villain, I just feel that we didn't get enough of him and the final battle against Garraka felt a little underwhelming. I'm also really mad the red jackets were barely in the movie. 2 characters wore them and it was only for the final 20 minutes. Overall I thought Frozen Empire was good, but not amazing. 6/10

I’ve loved the Ghostbuster movies, yes, the 2016 one was alright, and when I first heard about this, I thought, “Aw man, another one? They are probably doing it for a cash grab” but it exceeded my expectations! An honest 10/10 movie, and my ghostbusters phase is back, so i’ll be buying a replica proton pack sooner or later.

Excited. And happy for GBs in general. Real Ghostbusters the cartoon tv show was gold back in the day. Idc what anyone says ghostbusters 2 was good. I like that their going into the GBs EU…Which is the lore from stories and episodes from the cartoon. I’m sure Frozen Empire will be a hit. I wish they could bring Jonah Hill, Jay baruch,or Seth Rogan on board to join Paul Rudd, and add to the comedic element, but still looks good.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire was a fantastic movie. I loved it! This movie has been getting some undeserved hate from critics and I would like to speak out on that. I don’t think that any so-called “Film Critic” should review a movie based on their own expectations and what they think it should be. If they think they can make a better movie, then by all means, go ahead because they sure can’t make a good film review video or write a decent article. At the end of the day, this is Ghostbusters. It’s a film that shouldn’t be taken too seriously and should be enjoyed as it was intended. These films are made for their target audiences, but there is plenty of room for everyday movie goers to enjoy it too. I personally saw the film with a jam-packed theater. There were laughs, smiles, and fun times all around. At the end, people actually stood up, clapped, and enjoyed the experience. Isn’t that what a “Good” movie is supposed to do? Don’t listen to any critic that throws hate at Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. They are wrong, and their false words should not deter you from seeing this extraordinary film. Is it perfect? No. But it’s damn good!

I quite liked the movie, but what killed it for me was the scenes with Phoebe and Melody. They were awkward and uncomfortable, and I could’ve very easily lived without it. The film was perfectly fine (I liked the new villain and how much Ray got to do) but I think something was missing. I’m still all up for a sequel.

Always disappointing to hear Ghostbusters 2 isn’t as beloved I thought it was. “Why are you came?”
