Demonstrating some utilities for the 3d-printed Halbach motor: Method for static balancing, drill-press-method for measuring Kv, rotating motor-mount for measuring the torque, and calculating the efficiency (it's over 80%). Finally packing the motor in a box, and shipping it to the FliteTest guys. Hopefully they make it fly! :-)

I can't wait to see what they come up with. I do have an idea how about a pusher prop flying wing with classic trike landing gear that would be just awesome. Or on a WAR BIRD like a Quarter scale Bearcat or Mitsubishi Zero.Or heck since your sending to Josh make a big old BIXLER right on top that would have to be a big BIXLER. LOL Cheers Nice Motor and great job! I can't wait to see the paces they put it thru and what the team builds. Great video very informative.

Hey Chris, I am an intern at Oak Ridge National Lab and we are using your halbach array to test some new 3d Printed magnets. I really like the design of the rotor as it can be easily taken of and replaced with another to test the power comparison between conventional magnets and our 3D printed magnets. If you'd like to discuss more I would be willing to email or chat with you about the project. Thanks.

It’s good to know some bright minds are out there thinking outside the box. We don’t have to wait for decades to be given technology anymore. Imagine an open source F-22 Raptor. I know it seems stupid but building a computer used to seem crazy too. I’ve been 3D printing for a while and it really gets your mind working trying to solve problems. People like this genius, sharing their knowledge, is what moves us forward. If you know something teach it. It’s your duty. Thank you for this build Sir. dankesha

Some of the smartest work I have seen to date. Have you thought about changing the magnets, having them slightly angled in a fan array will give less cogging. Also putting a north and south magnet on the shaft will also give more rpms. It works kind of like the muller motor when done in this way. Cheers mate, good job.

Great video, thanks for sharing. When you do the drill test it spins slower with motor attached vs when you measured the speed, I can tell from the motor pitch 8-)
@ChristophLaimer
@ChristophLaimer 7 жыл бұрын
Correct :-) ... I guess the true rpm with the drill is only at 1040rpm. But there are other things, which also make the measurement inaccurate. For example the friction of the rotating motor mount. I've no idea, how much that's influencing the measurement on the scales.
