@DPWPERFORMANCE5 ай бұрын
It's a sfi, so it's a decent flexplate. No matter how clean and true the crank flange is, it does that sometimes. Torque converter would fix that
@shitbox827 ай бұрын
Is it a Gen 5 block or mk4, if mk4 what head gasket did you use? I’m honestly amazed the 088 head worked that well on this combination, I would’ve predicted it would be too much port to make that kind of torque down low, I’m impressed 👍🏻

Can you imagine that BEAST in one of those Camaros or Firebirds, couldn't nobody stop me. right now the only stopping me is some Serious cash. but wouldn't that be really cool if that were to actually happen.

Just curious, what heads and cam specs and total timing? I have a 461” with 9.76:1 CR, 702 heads, 3310 carb, 40* total timing and a small Clay Smith HR and it is super nasty on torque. Never been on a dyno but probably pushing 600 on torque, in a ‘72 C10 @ 4500 lbs.

@@DPWPERFORMANCE my motor moving truck is a 68 F 100. Some trucks are better than others. Looks like you have a good one. I'm not a Chevy person, but came across a GM generation Mark 4 for cheap. Found your test of the engine very good and interesting. How much to run on the dyno ? I've found a shop that will do it for $850. Thanks.

I won't ever use flat tappet cams anymore with the national defects we are seeing in flat tappet cans and lifers made in China failing. It took me 5 times in and out of the truck a 383 Stroker with less than 10 minuets of running to have the comp cams and lifters go bad. I ended the problem by going with full roller cam system. I will be doing a 454 next with roller cam full system .
@musclebone78758 ай бұрын
I totally agree! I've wiped out 2 bbc flat tappet camshafts. I now running a hydraulic roller cam no more problems.
@DPWPERFORMANCE8 ай бұрын
I go through great care for that not to happen. A lot of the people that have them built can't afford roller. I go to 3,000rpm the second it starts and hold it there for as close to 20 minutes as possible without overheating, let it cool down, and then back up to 3000 for another cycle. I've only lost one, but now that I've said that, it'll happen, lol

But I agree 100% the quality just isn't there with off the shelf lifters

@@DPWPERFORMANCE Because I work in the driveway and this is NW Oregon, we have bad winters, so it took me 2 summers to get this new 383 running - 5 times in and out of the truck over 5 to 10 minuets of run time on the comp cam + lifers wrecked them. To get the metal chunks & shaving out of the engine it had to be torn down - hot tanked and cylinders honed again to get the scratches out - the bearing are wrecked, and crank had to be polished. This went from a simple work truck engine to $7000 to where I am now of a running engine after using full roller cam system.
@Lure-Benson7 ай бұрын
@@musclebone7875 Here is the mess I found myself in using flat tappit cam & lifters. 5 time the 383 was in and out of the truck then torn down - hot tanker to get the metal out from wrecked cam & lifters. Cylinders again honed due to metal shavings scratches from wrecked cam & lifters- bearing scratched from metal particles and shot - crank again polished. New gasket sets - back to grunt time getting the engine bolted and ready to fire up. By the end I went to a full roller cam system I was in for $7000 just for a work truck & woods cruiser - hunting truck. Now never again will I use flat tappit cam & lifters.

Oval port heads?
@Lure-Benson8 ай бұрын
I have a 1969 GM 402 BB with those oval ports with the full history of the engine I've known from a boy. The engine came in a 1969 SS fast back Impala then wrecked - the engine then was put into a 1972 3/4 ton 4x4 Truck - I bought the truck then wore out the 402 then some 15 years after I sold the truck and kept the 402 the 402 was rebuilt then put into my Alaska guide working 30 foot jet boat now running guided fishing trips. I am using a sealed coolant system so the block will not be wrecked by salt water and when rebuild time come again the 402 will be ready again to rumble ! The ID block numbers indicate it was 425 HP leaving GM . Crazy History for one GM engine.
