As you will know I am making a Dinner service using Lavaflek Clay. A grogged clay sold by Potclays in the UK. These 24 test cups were made round a glaze combination that was on Facebook Amaco 5/6 Toasted Sage and Iron Lustre. I have made numerous combinations. So we can make this dinner service with the correct glaze.
I hope this shows how many colours you can end up with with subtle changes.

My favorite is the last one with the Blue Rutile. But that one you are going with is a very close second. I prefer blues as well. This dinner set will be gorgeous.

What a very informative video! Thank you for sharing. I am relatively new to pottery and got my first kiln last weekend. I now have loads of bisque pieces crying out for glazes but where to start! I love the look of the Amaco glazes and the layering technique and you have inspired me to try out the endless combinations! I too love the blues n greens but I can’t pick a favourite - they are all stunning! Good luck with the dinner set. That is what I would ultimately love to achieve! Thank you from Sunny Dorset

Your welcome. Remember I am doing there because it’s a different clay and glaze reacts differently to different clays. Best use a white in grogged clay to start and then watching my other videos will help you as I am using ES10 by Scarva

@@LoisHook Thank you. As it happens I bought some white clay when I bought the kiln. All my bisque stuff is buff but might crack the white open for some comparisons.

I bought Toasted sage because I liked the green colour so much, but it turned out like purple! (Like your mug.) Can you imagine why that's the case? I used a white clay...
@LoisHook
@LoisHook Ай бұрын
I would suggest that toasted sage may present differ on either different clays as the one in your pic is Lava Flek a high grogged clay and very Beige. Or maybe it changes at different kiln temps. Work looking on Amaco for that info. One would be fired on a high cone 6.

Hi Lois, first of all thankyou for all your "Glaze testing," I admire your energy !!! I too love layering and have been firing to cone 5 !! i'm thinking i should be going to Cone 6, these glazes are so stable Im afraid to up the temp incase they run, but i've watched your videos and have decided to be brave, !! also I wanted to say have you tried Light flux that too is a WinWin thanks Lois, Val , southampton

Thanks for the great message. No I’ve not tried flux as yet. My Skutt i use a preset to cone 6 I do a medium fire and have done 15 minute hold 10 minute and no hold. All go above cone 6. I spoke to the gent from Corby Kilns about the fact I get great results but should I change because it’s nearer to cone 7. He said it’s like baking a cake. If it works don’t change it. And to be fare so far I have been so happy with the results every time I think about going to a cooler fire I decide not to because it really works. Thanks again.

225gm Lavaflek. I tried 210 first not enough. I was following Florian Gadsby and using his weights.
