For some of my classes it has gotten so bad, that the professor actually told the class to leave our solutions at the set up stage and not to numerically solve them, and/or not to simplify them...

That one really sucks when the course uses peer grading. I once got the solution and presented it in coulombs, while the model answer was expressed in elemental charges. None of my peers marked my answer as correct, even though it was.

@@Matthew-li7we It was just one exercise among many. I flagged all of the erroneous grading. I can't recall what happened to that one exercise in particular, but the professors are fair more often than not. What matters more than the grade is your own learning, in the end.

The "talking to a non stem person" was perfect. I cant even describe how deep that hit. I love when people tell me its god gift to be "smart" and that studying only helps people who already have the "genius gene"

@@youarebeautiful9050 people say that everybody is genius at something. What a lie that was. Idk if smoking weed and watching TV counts as my genius.
@yahairabarron27485 жыл бұрын
@Zalmast Some people have a horrible sentiment towards degrees that are not STEM related. I am almost certain that most of the people who feel that way are still studying and have no experience in the work field (any organization or company has a demand of different jobs e.g. management/HR) or they are rather involve in their field and fail to acknowledge the importance of other people and their jobs. I've had situations where non-STEM students/people tell me how smart I am despite knowing me for two seconds and it makes me feel weird. Maybe that stems from the impostor syndrome lol You see I always thought that everyone was able to understand math and science topics easily. That was until I tutored someone then I realized people don't grasp information the same way I do. But I still think that they are able to understand it if you have enough practice and put in a little extra effort.
Hun I FEEL anytime people are like “omg you’re a GENIUS” and I’m just like “dude I got late for class this morning cuz my belt loop got stuck on the doorknob and I COULDNT GET IT OFF” That and I also have absolutely no plan for my future....
@Funnywargamesman5 жыл бұрын
That "non stem people thinking we are smart" thing hits too close to home. So many people keep telling me I'm so smart and it makes me feel bad. Like when you get credit for work other people do. It just feels so wrong.

broo sammme. I mean even if I were to be aware that I have the "smarts", there are literally some people who think that it literally translates to "instant knowledge" that just fcking pops into your head like a light bulb outta fcking nowhere as if you were literally "omniscient" or something....

@queeditchable You know if you are working with the kind of people who have only ever used Word, and barely know that, can you really expect them to understand commands? and that you write in one place but your document is in another place? Well, no that is completly foreign. Most would have done fine if they got a source to read from, but the majority isn't everybody. Also, I would expect even less from people who are not taking something computer related.
@Guztav13374 жыл бұрын
You act like everybody is as tech-savvy as you are. Like you would be the bare minimum, that is not true. Believe me, there are people who don't get it. And people who just don't care. I think personally there is nothing wrong with getting a short course in latex and version control. People who already know get 'free' points, people who don't know, learn it and get used to it. There is no point being against that.
@Guztav13374 жыл бұрын
I did just fine, I barely went to the lectures. But I had to help someone who had a problem with the terminal, and some others who didn't really understand they were using one too many ampersands. I'm sure way more problems arose for other people at other times. In the end everybody understood latex and a couple of other tools. I really don't understand your logic of not having a short course for tools that every single student are forced to use... just because they can google it? Like sure I can do all of the vector analysis and EM through google and youtube, but that doesn't mean I do it. You can learn every single thing from the internet, and the university is just for the piece of paper at the end. But still, a lot go to university. Still plenty go through the courses. You seem to find great trouble in the simple statement "we got a course learning these tools". Like what is your problem? University doesn't ever teach you something mystical that you can't find on the internet, that is not the point. You are only signing up to get help to grow as a person. You could as well do everything yourself if you wanted.
