Let's talk about my 5 Steps to Aging Freedom that might bring you to a place that you can start getting over your aging face without Botox or surgery. Aging faces, Jowls, saggy necks, wrinkles, they're all natural signs of aging. So why does it seem to take us by surprise? I think I know, but first, let's get into why getting older makes us feel things like: sad, scared, invisible.... what happened? How do we get out of this?
Let's "face it", there's a grieving process to getting older... but WHY? What makes us feel sad about it when we are coming into a time of our lives where we have built a stockpile of knowledge, skills and empathy that we should be able to simply enjoy and feel freedom from the insecurities of youth? What's making us feel this way? Let's talk about beauty validation addiction and how to get past it. How do we let go of it? That' where my 5 step process comes in...
The 5 Steps Are: (You can skip right to this if you want to: 02:59 5 Steps )
1 Set it and Forget it
2 The Agreement
3 Shift the Focus
4 Thanks and shut it
5 Gratitude

I’ve never felt bad about aging, but I’m 67 and I don’t think the pressure of anti aging was as great for my generation! Also, in my head I’m tall (5ft 1inch )and 38 years old .

It’s so interesting how we see ourselves vs how others see us. I’m in my 60s and when I look at you I see a beautiful young woman. Enjoy your 40s and 50s because you are still young. I’m trying to view my 60s in a similar light because compared to the coming 70s and beyond I am young.

Ahhhhhhh…! NOT “How to Fix/Smooth/Delude Yourself” but a frank discussion and guidance on self acceptance 💝 How can my wise fun artsy aunt be younger than I am?😅😉 (Added) Btw, I firmly believe that I can graciously and gratefully accept a compliment but still declare, ‘pleased as punch!’, that I discovered it at a thrift store!😊

Hi Lisa! I'm glad you enjoyed this! I'm tired of the treadmill and expectations. I figured others might be as well! I also cannot help myself telling everyone I thrifted my outfit. It might not be classy but it's FUN! I once got complimented on my dress on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills and you better believe I said it was $6 at Goodwill!

I have always paid compliments to people who are wearing something that I find stylish - it’s so lovely to see 99% of their faces light up - the other 1% are snobby and look down on you but THEY are the broken ones. Being able to take a compliment, however, I still struggle with even, at 60 years old. I am working on it, however, and am really going to try just saying “thank you 🤐”. Teeheehee! I did have a strange episode - or more accurately, episodes - where a medication gave me a strange side effect. It is actually listed in the side effects as ‘moon face’ where your face gets super round, like a full moon. I have to admit that looking in the mirror and seeing a face that is not your own is extremely jarring! During those times, I was pre-occupied with and ashamed of my face all at the same time. Hopefully those days are behind me now. Honestly, Diana, while I love makeup, skin care has been my main focus since I was in my early thirties. Although I have used skin care since a teen, let’s face it, in my 20’s, it was ALL about the make up (weren’t the 80’s fun?!). Because of my focus on skin care for the past 30 years, I am very frequently mistaken for a person in my 40’s (or as my hubby’s daughter). I have been impressing on my tween granddaughters that in a few years, they will need to start taking care of their skin - very simply at first - but that is the secret to looking good later. They now know, by seeing my skin, that it’s worth the couple of minutes each morning and night.

Great insights Diana and I absolutely agree with you! I can't help but think that women who grew up pretty, or in an environment that prized beauty have a harder time growing older. I have never been pretty but thankfully, even though my mom was stunning, beauty was not seen as important. I, like my brother, strongly resemble my dad, and let's just say it's a countenance better suited to men! 😂 My journey throughout the years has been quite a roller-coaster, but since my late 40's and definitely now that I'm almost 55, I'm more daring, more colourful and simply more joyful with my style. I wear things that make me smile and don't care one iota about what others think about it. Sure I'd rather not have a double chin, wrinkly neck and the beginning of marionette lines, etc, but my jacket is fabulous, my hair wild and my eyes sparkle knowing I'm striding along in my favourite funky boots! And you know what? I get more compliments now than I ever did.

Oh I love this! The constant vigilance that the media trains us as women to have towards our ageing bodies & faces (& newsflash: we’re ageing from the moment we’re born!) is so f***ing oppressive! Let’s get on with enjoying being decorative & unique beings who just happen to be 20, 30, 40, 50, 60… 100! Thank you for saying this out loud for us all ☺️

i totally agree ! since i retired from work i've been thrifting clothes and concentrating on my personal style , it brings me such joy and i've never had so many compliments from strangers . I think if you have a passion for some thing , like clothes it makes you seem more youthful in your attitude xx
@unblahyourself
@unblahyourself 5 ай бұрын
Exactly! In fact you made a point that I wish I had… It certainly doesn't have to be a passion for clothes. I choose clothes for most women because it's a very visual one that goes with you everywhere. But a passion for anything makes you far more interesting and vibrant. And also makes you too busy to be worried about your face. 😉

I'm almost fifty five and I'm still proud of my face and want to draw attention to it. As I know you do as well by all the choices you make in hairstyle, makeup, jewelry etc. Therefore I find your words contradictory and confusing. Perhaps I am literal minded. I think what you mean is to take our minds off of the things about one's aging face that create insecurity, not off our one's face altogether. I have days when I struggle because my face can look puffier bringing out the jowly look I do not like, or the light just hits it the wrong way. Even then, I'm not going to change my style to draw less attention to my face, because I am human and have every right to get older.
@unblahyourself
@unblahyourself Ай бұрын
Yes I think you get it. I do not believe there's anything wrong with aging, but there are so many women conditioned to hate it and their faces that I just want to help them in any way I can. You can not simply tell people to love themselves (because that doesn't work!) but you can lead them to enjoy themselves more and worry less.

Hey "I got this from the thrift store for $2" isn't a bad thing to say! Thrifting is a lot of effort, finding a great piece is totally something you can talk about! (I just spent the day going through 17 thrift stores and found 1 basic sweater.) Great video! It's such a shame that society deems older women unattractive for some reason cause... no? In my opinion people of any age can be very attractive. A mature face looks like it might belong to a mature mind, and how is that not attractive? Not that you can't still be silly and discover new things at any age as well. But all those years of life experience are a great thing, and regardless of your current age you probably know more about yourself, who you are, and what you want, than you did 10 years ago. Also like... faces with wrinkles can be just as superficially pretty as faces without wrinkles? Who tf decided that wrinkles aren't pretty? 20 year olds dye their hair grey and that's cool but suddenly once you're 60 grey hair is considered ugly? Make it make sense. It doesn't make sense. You're pretty! My fear about getting older/looking older was more about feeling like I wouldn't be able to do certain things anymore. I felt like a "silly young person who does crazy things", and being "old" would somehow negate that. Took me a while to fully register that I can be a silly person of any age who does crazy things. (for the record, I'm still very young lol)

I had to do something similar when i was in my 20s, but for a different reason. My face has always been a topic of discussion because of my looks. Women hate me, and men only see me as an object. And women literally telling me, that's all I'll ever be, just pretty, and nothing else. So I cut off all my hair, and started wearing quirky clothes, and did my makeup in wild colors. Just Totally ditched the traditional beauty "standard ". I also started a small art business, so I could sell my paintings and jewelry. Also, I study several different subjects, one being psychology, in my spare time. I didn't want to be "just pretty ". Now that I'm in my 50s, and starting to show some age, I'm so happy I got a jump start on this attitude. It's actually relieving to me that men just pass my by now, and women see me as a friend. I still get compliments on occasion, mostly from women ❤ and that's just fine with me. That old saying...don't judge the book by the cover...has always stuck in my mind. Yes, I do some anti aging skin care, but no fillers, or surgery. I do still want to look my best at 52, but I don't need to feel like I need to look younger. We're SO MUCH MORE than our looks!!
