Since I rode the CB750 over to Mt Airy I've had quite a few questions on how comfortable it was, 12 in total, I went back and counted! So I decided to make a video on it, I also covered the gear I wore on the journey as I get asked about what fits me daily, there are a lot of unsupported tall folk out there!

I love my 96 750 nighthawk. Im 5.7 ft 190 lbs it rides perfect. Just did a bunch of TLC. Spark plugs, oil change, exhaust gaskets, carburetor synchronization, starter, sprockets. Oh boy

Yeah that'd be a much better height and weight combo for it!! Very nice! I haven't needed to touch the carbs yet, sprockets, chain, sparks, oil and air filter all done, very easy to work on it!

Last summer I did a 4.500km trip on my CB750 on the Alps, south of France and French mountains. I was really surprised with the bike! I added a Givi windscreen which made a huge difference. Of course you feel the decrease in power at altitude ( check my Col du Galibier climb video), but I wasn’t racing anywhere and it was one of my most enjoyable trips. There are much better bikes to do it on, but this one just never missed a beat! The tool kit ended up being the most useless thing I carried 😂

Now was yours the nicer spec one tho? Dual disc front brakes and 10bhp more with a few other bits also. That one honestly would be perfect, that'd fix all the minor power and braking complaints I have, plus a windscreen, perfect. I have thought about trying to find a EU spec front end and carbs to get this one up to spec a bit more :P Yours should have a bigger fuel tank too! Ah the most fun bikes I've ever had are the ones that just work :) Plus I have found in recent years a slightly slower bike is a lot more enjoyable a lot of the time :)

I absolutely adore that bike. I remember when I first saw one in the 90's. I'm 6'4", 270LBS and I've considered getting one if I could find one in good condition.

Great video. From a short persons experience its interesting to see it from the other end of the spectrum. Well done on the 500. I'm hoping to do this distance this year I've toured on a kawasaki zl600 eliminator, and only ever had naked bikes. I've got a vulcan s now, which came with a screen. I'm not a lover but the miles I ride I am trying to like it. I've subscribed. Look forward to your continued journey. Ride safe. Lady J Rider

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it, and likewise I always find it interesting to see the challenges for those of a more regular height! I didn't even set out to do any set distance, just realised it when I got home and thought the 1000 would be honestly horrible for me on that bike. I love naked bikes but screens and fairings make a huge difference over distance comfort wise, relieves a huge amount of upper body fatigue, especially the taller you get :) Thanks!! Hopefully you enjoy it, you too!

I think you’re finally going to get that long sought after Honda Fury you’ve always wanted. I can’t wait to see you on it! I would totally tour on the CB. My bike is probably less powerful than it. There’s a joy in just cruising and not really being able to slam it at 100+ MPH.

Hahaha yes, I'm such a lover of the Honda Fury 😂😂 You've nailed it :P Less powerful possibly but more torque maybe, torque I enjoy a lot, good butt feel :P Yes luggage is key for enjoyment. Backpacks are fine but not for extended periods

@@byDanimal try the kriega bags with the chest closure... They're a game changer. I can carry reasonable amounts of gear on my back... I also have a set of givi throw over luggage that takes 32 litres... Have done smaller overnight trips with them... Will put them to the test in spring

I genuinely don't fit on your bike sadly, my hip really doesn't like it sadly. Cycle ergo is a great yoke to have a look and see what the hips and knees are at pressure wise.

A very good summation of the the trip. How could anyone doubt the bike. I certainly don't see that solid quality on the Hondas here. I think you should get some alternative pegs to experiment with you can easy move them from bike to bike. In fact my preference for long trips is not to have a fairing. I prefer wind to buffeting and turbulence that always comes with a "touring" screen or fairing. What next... Easier to suggest what it won't be. I look forward to the unveiling! Good fun as always.👍

Gracias amigo :) I'm honestly not sure, this is kind of the exact type of bike I have in mind when I call back to super reliable, affordable bikes of days past. This style, no valve adjust needed, simple, fun, reliable. I wish they were more available. That's fair, I am too long and like something to keep the air off my chest if I can, as I am also fairly wide :D Haha it's nothing crazy exciting sadly :P

Was great to see the nice roads on the earlier videos! I’d absolutely tour on a CB750. I’m only 6 feet tall, though, so it would fit me better than you. My first bike was a Yamaha 650 cruiser that just didn’t work for me ergonomically. After about 75 miles in the saddle, I would feel like Mike Tyson punched me in the kidneys a few times. Clutch lever on that bike was screwy, too, which was apparently a common problem. Nice bike, otherwise.

They were some lovely roads, I'll definitely be heading back there. Yeah honestly the bike was a champion, and plenty of fun on the nice roads, if only my genetics hadn't screwed me over :D Yamahas I've ridden often has some weirdness, I remember my FZ6 before I made a few changes was the same, I did an 800km day on it once and basically fell off of it when I got home. Same as tho, brilliant bike overall!

@@TheGorillaBiker Thank you, as a side note. I called a shop about cleaning the carbs and giving it a look over and he turned his nose up to a 92. He didn't seem to like old bikes but I've got news for em. With the electric revolution, all internal combustion engine bikes may be " old" one day.

@@TheGorillaBiker No. He literally said people bring in 90 model bikes in to have the carbs cleaned and they'll have pieces missing off the carb so he won't hunt down parts. That's my job and I won't be a priority. He literally said to me over the phone. He never asked what condition it currently was in. It runs pretty good I just would prefer to have everything cleaned and as well maintained as possible before I use it as a "daily driver" but he never asked anything about his current condition like I said.

I ride a 2001 Honda CB750 Nighthawk that I've owned for over a decade now and YES,it IS a "cold-blooded" machine (meaning that it takes it's time warming up and needs to be ridden with the choke on longer than other bikes) along with it having a slight "hiccup" in the throttle when your leaving idle in first-gear! There's a 1 to 1 1/2 second pause from the carbs. when taking off but this is NOT a carburetor problem necessarily! In OEM stock form,this was a design/engineering problem that was overlooked on this model bike. However............as he states.........it IS INDEED a wonderful and downright RELIABLE motorcycle that You'll ever find!!! In my decades long ownership of mine........ALL I've ever done on it,has been "routine" maintenance and that's it!!! No overhauls,no major parts replacements,etc. So knowing what I know now...........I would highly recommend this bike to ANYONE that's looking for a daily-commuter or weekend-cruiser bike!!! : >)

I have been wondering if I added like carb pre heaters to the bowls like on some other carbed bikes would it help it start when it's pretty cold out. Might be worth a test! :) I can't imagine I'll ever sell it tbh, it was so reasonable to buy cost wise and with how little maintenance they need, it'll be around a loooooooooooong time :)

I love my Kriega backpack. Had it for a few years now. It has only been fairly recently that doing large miles on the motorway on my Moto Guzzi Griso, that the wind buffering bothered me. Was a potential hint as to your next bike placed on this video? Before my Ducati Darmah broke down, I used it for some longer weekend trips.

They're a brilliant piece of kit, I think I've had this one since 2018. It depends on the air temp for me too, cold air hits a lot harder, which sounds mad but it's true. Haha maybe, I have it bought now so you'll find out soon :P Yeah I'd happily tour on anything tbh, just have to take more breaks!

Great vid and thoughts mate 🙂 The CB750 is a cracking bike, I'd fit it well so would happily tour on it... toured on my sub 50bhp V7 and was super fine in the saddle on 300mile+ days. You have some good kit there Michael, great to see the "free" boots have lasted the test of time, and the gloves are basically as new even after a spill!

And we all know sports bikes are the best bikes :'( I do have a minor advantage on the big tall bois. I was really thinking of getting that tbh! The handroids I never chanced purely because they looked like they had a lot that could fail, that's why I went for the simpler design. But they're also on what mk4 now of the handroids? Now I feel I should test them cus I've been negative :P

Hi Michael. I just read your reply to my reply. If your leaning towards what I think you are I guarantee you wont regret it. Keep in touch. FYI I have a tall saddle for that bike it's yours if you want/need it. As a short ass 5'9" its a little too tall for me and I have a custom seat on mine.

Africa Twin? That would be a good replacement for the CBF. Heck no I wouldn't regret that Germany trip on the Falco either, that looked like a solid experience minus the cold rain....If you ride across merica from Cali and don't stop here I will be hurt, deeply hurt. Solid advice on the naked bike and touring, good video. Would I tour on that bike, yes with some mods, I think your idea of highway pegs is grand. Would need some wind protection to.

Great vid again! I'm 6ft 3ins so have found your vids very, very useful. I have a 5xl jacket, but I fill out the middle bit!! But then I am over twice your age (my excuse and I'm sticking with it, haha). Got all my gear at a Sportbikeshop outlet so I spent a good few hours trying everything on and playing on the bike frame to check for comfort in riding position (try not to make engine noises while doing this as you get some strange looks!!!!). UA phone cover is ace (stem mount on my gsx600f works well). OC - yep would defo do long ride on the nighthawk - more upright than my bike. I've done a 250 mile day on my gsx600f with absolutely no problems. Will you surprise us with the new bike? I think Africa Twin, but I know you can be "interestingly unpredictable" haha. ATB, Andy.

I love my 95 nighthawk. But then there is the Bandit. What the heck am I going to do with the Bandit? Hot Hot Hot. Bits and pieces messed with. My first buyer had credit card issue so I gave him time. He wants the registration and NH tag. OK fair enough. And so. If I work on the Bandit (1200 1998 20K super clean) yea, I work on the Bandit. Well.... By golly I might just keep the Bandit. Then my nighthawk may be "on the block." What a conundrum. Anyway. Thanks for sharing all of this. Just great! You have my attention.

I'd tour on it. Of course, I'm almost a foot shorter and I love my carbies :) I have 2 carbies running and 1 EFI I have to figure out how to get running without spending a grip at a repair shop.

Ah yes a foot shorter definitely would help :) The bigger fuel tank from the UK version and a few other bits and it'd be a world beater tbh. I love carbs also, but when you have a good modern EFI system that's working they're a dream!

Currently shopping and reading reviews about boots. Don't even get me started at people who write "arrived on time, haven't wore them yet, five stars " reviews... Are the Indie Ridge good for every day wear? Hiking, walking around the city all day and do they fit true to size?

Hahaha most pointless review ever. I mean I love my Alpinestars web goretex boots, walked all over the place with them! The indie ridge boots I've worn for riding, then work, in to town with friends and all day have been on my feet multiple times. They're not as comfortable as hiking boots, but the trade off is worth it imo. They're true to size for me, but I'm not sure about more regular sizes, Ive heard mixed results there. I'd happily buy a pair, I'll put it that way.

I found about a year ago or more a 1987 Magna (I had mentioned in one of your videos for your Magna) but it went off the grid before I had the chance to buy it. Last week it re-appeared but I found also a 1982 CB 750 Nighthawk. Hence the dilemma..

@@georgemcelroyII you may have mixed it up with another bike, I've never made a video on selling the magna :) I'll be buried with that bike 😂 Ah that's a pity but glad you found another! :) Honestly I think the Magna is just a lot more fun, the cb is a great bike but the engine has a lot less character than the Magna. But it is slightly comfier off the bat.

Are you getting a Goldwing? I think you should get a zx12r, I have purchased one of those and kept my z1000sx as well like we talked about before. Two bikes that short a$$es like ourselves fit on comfortably 😂👍🏼. Riding naked bikes when you're bigger than your average bear makes you notice how much you are like a sail 🤣

Haha no. Only way I'd get one really is a Valkyrie. Don't have interest in a Goldwing, unless it was to strip it off :P I was actually looking for one, but sadly not that, I also VERY nearly bought a Z1000SX but the add on charges they were putting on it soured me off that dealer and I walked away. 1600+ on a used bike that was a bit on the expensive side already. Haha but yes both that we fit on :P I'm trying to keep some cash aside for a ZX12r if one comes up. Haha it really does :D

@The GorillaBiker good man I was thinking I hope its not a Goldwing don't get me wrong there meant to be a great bike but definitely not for me I'd get a trike before I got 1 of those. Shame the z1000sx are a great bike even if they are a tad boring at times that's why I had to get a zx12r & was shocked that they are very comfortable for the taller rider & the performance is awesomely quick especially for Dorset roads. I'm looking to go across to your home town this year any places you'd recommend as I've never been to Ireland & it'll be my 1st year going out on little tours!?

Haha I don't think I'd ever get one tbh. At one point I nearly did to strip it off and see what it could do that way, but then I realised that's too much effort :D Yeah they are, loved the one I got to test ride, but just couldn't come to terms. I like have a CBF style daily and a more exciting bike myself, so I'll keep my ear to the ground for a ZX12R as I would absolutely love one :) Anywhere man, ideally get to Kerry and West Cork, the wild atlantic way you really can't go wrong!!

I'll be touring to his year on my Moto Guzzi V7, so similar enough to your yoke with regard to nekidness, air-cooled and not sports bike power... I plan to avoid motorways, mostly as I don't like wind noise and I've changed helmets without much success in dealing with it... That's the only issue for me... Otherwise, stuff will be limited to what fits in my throw-over bags and I'll be away...

Class bike. A bit more powerful all round than this, definitely more torque which honestly is all this cb needs to be pretty close to perfect :) I hate motorways. They're just boring. In all the tours I've done tho they've been a fact of life sometimes sadly, I do wear custom fit earplugs tho so don't notice wind. Yeah those bags are a better shout than a backpack.

I'm looking for a first bike and not having much experience with manuals I'm looking for an automatic at 450 maybe 500. Looked into Hondamatics but seems like they've gotten quite pricey, heard this bike is an automatic? Not sure, but would you recommend this bike as a starter given it's a 750?

It's not an automatic! You won't get much that's old and auto and pretty much everything that is auto is Hondas DCT system. The Honda NC750 is DCT and is probably the least aggressive I can think of off the top of my head!

@@TheGorillaBiker thanks bud, most my experience is with old cars but most things with bikes seem alien to me lol. Learning as much as I can, hoping I can find a Hondamatic because I love the look and they seem quite popular with bikers who just want a cruiser. Looking into these things as best I can though and I appreciate the reply!

Other than the hondamatic you'd be stuck for the older ones and I know they're rare as hens teeth :) But if you find one they'd be very cool! I'm not sure is the rebel 300/500 available in DCT but the 1100 certainly is, other than being a bit more powerful it might be worth a look :)

@@TheGorillaBiker You should go try one, they're a lot more nimble than you'd expect! They're heavy but the tires are huge and the center of gravity is extremely low, so you can toss them around corners.

I'm sure they are and I've no doubt the engine is a beauty. But I'll still stick with the lighter bikes with more ground clearance :) I'm a sportsbike man at heart!

I have ridden a few Goldwings and they are very nimble but I understand they are very specialized bikes 😁 Work great if you ride 250km at a time but there are many more versatile options especially if you are more inclined to a sporty style of riding
