awesome video! a couple things to note however 1. you should never use a torque wrench to run down bolts. this can mess up your torque wrench accuracy. 2. when you are installing flexplate/fly wheel/clutch pressure plate bolts you need to torque all the fasteners to their final torque dry, then once all the bolts are torqued, take one bolt at a time and apply the loctite and re-torque the bolt. putting loctite on the bolts and then putting them in and running them down can cause the loctite to get between the flexplate/flywheel and the crank register, or between the clutch pressure plate and the flywheel which can cause vibration issues with components not being truely flush

For my NV4500 in a 93, I purchased some longer bolts to help get the transmission aligned with the adapter plate. This helps slowly pull the two together while you can also wiggle the tranny as needed. Really good when only one person doing the work.

Great video. I would have applied some red GP grease to the coupler splines before installing. There is always some minor misalignment between the shafts and coupler and the splines will mesh in and out like teeth on spur gears, causing some metal to metal wear. Over many miles, the wear will become noticeable. The square bodies' front ends are so much more sensibly designed. Much simpler suspension and steering design. GEN 2 and newer are a cluster f. Yours is really nice.

This is a six in a row jim Again hey when you determine that you like that hole for the shifter that was a good idea by the way that dude had with the bolts and make make the imprint on the floorboard but once you get a confirmed location get some hard points inside the truck take measurements and say OK guys may drop this far from here measure over this way from here or you know what I’m saying that way a guy can just cut the hole not have to screw Ron raising and lowering the transmission all right do you have a good day be safe handle on that heavy unit

For the T-case to 29 spline could you not just purchase and swap in the 29 spline input shaft/gear. My truck tore up a 29spline coupler and took out the splines on my t-case so I ended up buying new ones thru Northwest Fab in Vancouver island.

You can but you have to have the case machines to be able to fit the bigger shaft. I'll know my limitation until I find a 29 spline one

Oh I see, didn’t realize the houseing was a little different too. You are gonna love shifting gears with a 12valve. I always get excited when I get to drive me truck, NV4500 swapped in after getrag failure

Man I hope your not going to toe very heavy with that dink trans mount. I’ve had to build 2 others due to the torque of the Cummins. Good way to do it but I’d have a lot more stout iron under that thing.

I did not. I asked two friends who are well versed in 12 valves and both said if it's not leaking don't touch it 🤷‍♂️

Where did you get those orange gloves???? I haven’t been able to find since covid. Also is it normal to disassemble the clutch and clean it like that? I have mine to throw in when going to nv4500
@decentgarage
@decentgarage 2 жыл бұрын
My wife got the orange gloves for me for Christmas. I'll ask her where she got them. Yes, it is necessary to disassemble the clutch and clean it. From the factory they out an oil compound on the metal surfaces to prevent them from rusting. You want to get all that stuff off before installing or your clutch will slip. The friction discs do not need to be cleaned

Im curious about changing to 2nd or 3rd gen 6spd.. 1st gen starter on left, front drive shaft on right, 2nd 3rd gen have them on opposite sides.. Im wanting to be able to use a front differential that has front shaft on drivers side.. Is this difficult do you know? Possible?
