Quick opinion here! I’m doing a voidfletcher build and I killed shaper with her the other day (my first time doing that was this league on a Smite Raider btw ☺️). During the Shaper fight I had phaserun on, when he would slam I would just pop phase run and get out of there. It was very easy! Phase run is awesome

The tipp i can give everyone is that the most important thing when making a build is enjoying the playstile not how meta it is or how many shapers you can kill per second. I have been playing Cyclone slayer every league and in standard since i started in Harbinger and despite cyclone being very bad in both clear speed and single target at that time it was incredibly fun for me.

I made and league started with my own build for Legion, a Cyclone CWC Blade Vortex HoAg Assassin. I've gotten to the end game, done all of the content and had a lot of success. It was surprisingly easy, with Shadow having a lot of just pure physical damage scaling not tied to spells or attacks. My whole core was Dendrobate with the buffs to Lesser Poison and all the flat physical damage on melee skills now allowing me to scale poisons harder and having both Cyclone and BV to apply a lot of stacks quickly while using a Disintegrator to add even more flat phys. Tip 3 really was where I struggled personally. With the changes to Warlord's Mark and Guard skills I was very hesitant to roll Warlord's. Then since I was playing a hybrid life/es build I had to plan on how to maintain both. Eventually after trying both an assmark and poachers mark ring I went with a warlords and it worked great. I have flat life gain on hit for my life while I convert my leech to es with ghost reaver. Don't be afraid to try something that you think might not work. A lot of things can work out great if you invest into it. I also was able to use a CWDT Immortal Call set up then as well as having pretty high evasion. So currently I have a 7k ehp build with about 500 leech/second, a writhing jar thats constantly up and then the healing off kills from the assassin ascendancy on top of about 50% evasion chance This kind of bleeds into the last tip, but it worked out for me.

Your discussion on defensive layers is good! I usually focus on just one of Armor/ES/Evasion + max resists and still end up squishy. I'll look for a damage stacking version!

Hey Nathan, I've been playing since closed beta and have created 100 o unsuccessful builds. Almost every build has fizzled in yellow maps due to a lack of damage and/or survivability. about defense layers: sand instance from "blood and sand" can make enemies blind. I always keep it in mind before think to change to blood instance. I like to spam that phase run button too, if i running like a dumb sleepy spinning potato (because im a 2k hours casual noob ^^). I learned a LOT in this video, thank you so much ... and keep jade/granite/immunities (freeze, curse, bleed) flasks up!

another thing people overlook with avoidance builds, like evasion/dodge/blind, is that all hits avoided avoid all on hit effects. stun, poison, bleed, elemental status ailments, and maybe most importantly CRITICAL STRIKES. critical strikes from monsters are rolled against your evasion twice. once to see if it hits, and if it does, once to see if it is evaded. the way entropy works with evasion this essentially means if you have 50% evasion you will effectively never take critical strikes from attacks. god help you with spell crits though

i would be pleased if i see a guide where a curator go through a simple gameplay(starting from character creation and maybe 3-4 hours after that) explaining everything from builds,and what this/that do,what you need to be prepared for,what skills you should go for,what is in the meta etc... my character is in hardcore league and i don't want to die.

I've got roughly 10k hours in this (including afk time I must admit) basically only make my own builds and SSF and can say I enjoyed this video very much and you definitly know what you're talking about, great video!

best build guide I've found yet. maybe you should do a how to use path of building tutorial, the ones out there aren't very good.

I started playing during synthesis. First character was a scion with fire totems, minions, arc lightning, fire brands and ice shot. Needless to say that that my damage output sucked and just about every boss beyond tier 1 would one shot me. My first legion character is a lightning trap and lightning spire using shadow. Stuck to lightning damage, trap damage, life, energy shield and mana nodes on my passives. The character clears maps like a boss. I’m at level 87 and haven’t had any issues getting through maps. I wish I had this video when I started playing!

I still remember my 4k Life max block gladiator in Legacy League (The one with Quant Support), that thing killed everything (Except shaper cuz DoT OP). Max live isn't everything. 78% Block, 250 life on block, 40% dodge, Fortify, Blind can work wonders.

On a sidenote: The breachstone hosts are mostly scammers today so rather stick around people you know and make the investment together.

After my very first character back in prophecy (I zerg rushed to merciless no clue how with -60 res) when I logged in few months later (mid essence league) after following projectpt's build (LOL) it was funny how I replaced items and used normal 1 socket items just because their level was higher... good times, and my first try on making a build was on legacy league I made a raider CI vaal pact HoWA build, and it kinda could make it to red maps but that investment on too many concepts kinda made it fall apart, it was a funny experience. Nice video, unintentionally brought back some memories :')

Wanted something to complete 10 acts in ssfhc. I assumed I will have 0 uniques. I only targeted 2 concepts - super high ST for bosses/elites (shorter phases, less mechanics - easier to survive), and also incorporate a clearing spell for white mobs. I ended up as a necromancer - zombies (4linked) and skeletons (3linked) for ST, and arc (4link) for clearing whites. Later I decided to add "3rd concept" - two curses, so I replaced arc with bane (enfeeble + temporal chains - same damage as arc, but much more defense). Also finished with all yellow gear (some of it essence crafted). So ya, think small :)

Molten Shell with 12k+ armour is really strong. I thought I'd mention because of what you say about stacking hp can be non effective hwen you don't have defensive layers, its very true. I have only 5k hp this league but I am way more durable than my 12k ES build from the previous because of things like MS, fortify,armour. Great video.

I just started playing, got a marauder to 48 and he died so i made a sc lightning scion. I havent looked anything up for the build yet, but im sure these tips will be really helpful!

Just goes to show you that I still am learning with the poe.ninja you mentioned. I had no idea about that site at all. As soon as you mentioned it I went to it and was blown away. I've never been able to get to shaper with my builds and have to always use someone else's builds that always cost me a lot. Legion mob kinda shut down most of my build. Only the meta build can handle them for me.

Play test - this facebreaker max block surrender impale cyclone char wrecks T15 maps easily and feels super tanky on a 5 k life pool, awesome! Legion - oh, even since I got the facebreakers this feels awesome - client crashed- you have been disconnected for taking too many actions-client crashed-ok next map-client crashed-client crashed-client crashed.

i've been divising a darkscorn incandescent heart coc CI build (probably raider) .. looks pretty good .. has about 90% mitigation vs everything

I love the "copy Mathil" on the blackboard. What a lot of people don't know is that Mathil himself admits that he's never played to level 100. He just does Level 80 builds, which any moron could manage. I made the mistake of following his guide once, and before the league was over, he was telling people to do the build I'd WANTED to start with, but didn't, because I thought he knew better.

Nathan, this was an awesome video, thanks. The tips regarding Show Node Power in PoB, as well as the heatmap for poe.ninja were utterly invaluable. You've just made my life SO much easier. Now, I got a question. I'm playing a summoner this league and at the moment that's a necromancer. But I prefer Scion for basically everything due to aesthetics - which usually means that I end up a bit underpowered and always feel really locked into specific builds. An example would be the summoner scion vs witch - as a scion, it seems that you really only go specters. But witches have a much bigger field of popular choices with, again, specters solidly at the top, but also zombies, raging spirits, skeletons and more (though even amongst witches, there is a very strong trend). What's your opinion on scion? Should I feel free to just break the mold and go for what I want even if the scion ascendancies seem weak compared to those of the dedicated classes? Or is the power disparity big enough that it's just not at all advisable for your average player?

I don't understand, if fortify reduces ALL kind of damage, why not make it 100% and don't die at all?

I still think tankiness is all about having 10k life/es. You're going to get hit no matter what, so you need to have high life pool when you do. Armor and resists makes sense to reduce the damage from hits. I just don't like evasion, block and dodge because you still get hit.

Steelskin doesnt give you 75% dmg reduction for any amount of seconds.. It makes you take 70% of the damage from the absorb the gem gives you. And tbh... it gives max 3k dmg absorb rest is taken from your life. and a Slam for minotaur or any other guardian will kill you anyways... immortal call gives you 25% Ele dmg reduction and 25% melee dmg reduction so thats better.

Just adding my 2 cents on the watching a stream to see a demo of a build: not all builds will seem as fun as they really are when u just watch them, for example totem builds etc.

I started POE on ps4 I came up with a dual wield gladiator build based around bleed,poison and block around maps ish got real and I fizzled out any tips to make this concept come alive and work well?? I was using I believe rend ?(it was a skill that sent out a wave in front of me from each blade and chased bleeding) for add clear and viper strike for single target leap slam for mobility( and fortify) I really want to jump back into the game before 4.0 and get my legs back under me. Sending out an S.O.S for any input from some O.G players

i wanted to create a max dodge and block gladiator^^ speccing into block and evasion only...trying to get max block with phase acrobatics is hellish difficult task

Hey Nathan, I am trying to re-create the incinerate build (relatively new, looks fun af) and I noticed that your six link chest has all green slots, but incinerate support group uses 5 blue and 1 red. You're dual wielding. Can you help me clear up what you're actually doing here?

The real problem is "Skill Choice" there are lots of skills but none of those have short skill demo to see if they like the skill or not.

What do you think about changing existing builds slightly? i wanna make an ED CON Trickster but in my past experience evasion really sux when it comes to surviving bosses especially when leveling, so i wanted to convert it to armored, is this easy achievable. My experience, a fuckton of characters but i never made it past like t6 maps

Never - EVER - plan a build past level 90. Past that point it's all gravy, nothing more.

Great vid, I have been playing about 1.5 years on xbox and while I was aware of most of your tips, some valuable gems here and help to confirm some of my knowledge. Especially area of budgeting - xbox costs are 3-5x PC in my experience so I have gradually become very parsimonious lately. One big issue is you (and all other youtubers) make heavy reference to “path of building”. This is of course not available on the xbox, so we are very much left to guessing. Any recommendations for alternative, web-based tools? Poe.ninja poedb and a few others are very useful but mainly non-interactive. Thanks again!

Still not gonna make my own builds after this to be completely honest xD But I do now understand the logic behind the builds I copy better so I might be able to start tweaking some shit to my own taste now :) Besides understanding build logic is always good for pricing jewels and such which is great for the wallet especially early on next league $$$ so thnx for explaining :D

I normally think of blind as 50% MORE evasion since they are not mutually exclusive.

Serious question: How important is it to incorporate charges into your builds? Like endurance/frenzy/power charges. A lot of the builds i do i forget about these tbh.
