I’m realizing this next season of Sunny is gonna be a different kind of special thanks to this podcast. In a strange way it feels like we’re accompanying them on the journey of creating it, rather than what we’re used to, simply seeing the final product when the season debuts. Hearing about stuff that happens on set, thoughts about the working on the script, etc. I don’t know if that makes sense but point is, listening to them talk regularly about working on the season while in the process of shooting will definitely give watching the season a different perspective that wasn’t there during previous seasons.

Glenn's career should be so much bigger than it is. He's so talented - acting and writing. I hope when he looks back at all of this, he's happy with what he's done. He should be incredibly proud. His writing is attached to many of the best episodes of Sunny.

I think the main reason why he isn't bigger is because he isn't traditionally handsome like say Pratt (cause no way is Pratt funnier or a better actor than Glenn). I think Glenn is a very handsome guy but in Hollywood you have to really be perfectly handsome and talent is secondary unless you are well connected. Yes I'm still salty that a talentless, god awful actor like Pratt is more famous than the oh so talented Glenn Howerton.

Listening to them talk about their journey certainly has me regretting not trying to chase my comedic passions. If any younger people are motivated by this episode, then DO IT. Find a way to get your feet wet to see if you need this, and if the shoe remotely fits, throw yourself into it. People say you have your entire life to find out what you like to do, but life doesn’t stop. I did a lot of other things that guaranteed more security and before I knew it, I’m in my 40s and that life you wanted is passing you by. Some things you can’t do when you get older, at least in the same capacity. A fear of failure is the worst feeling to cultivate at a young age. Playing is safe will certainly keep you from certain failures, but as you get older and turn around to look at what you’ve done and accomplished, while you have have lead an adventurous life, doing and seeing things most will never do in a lifetime, you will see your safer journey as a failure in its own way. Squandered gifts are the worst. It’s better to fail miserably than to move on before you even really gave it a shot. Life is short. Be on of the few that really chased it, so you aren’t the 40+ year old that had some tastes of what it could be like but had to play it safe first and will do that a little later down the road. If you chase it early enough, you don’t need a fall back because it’s so much easier to reinvent yourself. You gotta be all in on most things that can be really big payoffs. Don’t waste time appeasing others; it’s your life and it might not be as long as you hope it can be. Stoke the fire and keep it fueled!

I've always been waiting to hear about this topic because they both come from unlikely backgrounds. Rob is super funny to me, especially in some of the upcoming episodes. His riff with Frank's sister in law in Intervention destroys me. The turn from 'I hope you like it crispy because it is burned' to 'you're always safe when you're with me' is giddying.

When Megan said that she needs a little treat when writing all I could see was Poppi from Mythic Quest cramming skittles in her mouth while coding. I fully agree that writing needs treats. Snacks = motivation.

In my life, that was one of those scenes where I didn't yet know the actor I was watching when I first viewed it, so subsequent views these days give me a different (greater) appreciation. But sadly no matter how many times I watch Serenity, Glenn's only mercy is the bullet Mal puts in him. I think he could've made a good Browncoat. I'll keep trying.

So interesting to listen to successful people's origin stories especially Glenn's story. Reminds me of listening to Conan O'Brien and his staff talk about their start in late night television. I wish more actors and performers were as open and honest.

Loved this ep, I grew up doing a lot of plays and acting in my local theater scene, despite being a small town in Texas we had a surprisingly big arts scene with a ballet company, 3 theater companies, and two high school theater scenes. I LOVED acting, still do, and miss it. I got into a STEM field in college (which I'm still doing, pursuing a doctorate atm) and I have just gotten so busy I haven't had time to keep doing shows and stuff. This ep has me hoping once I'm through my grad school and a bit more stably employed I can start getting into musicals and shows again cause I really enjoyed it as a hobby, I don't think I would pursue a career in it, but I would love to be a part of my local scene!

Wow. Glenn talking about how acting is pretty much the only thing he doesn't get impostor syndrome about resonates hard. Great way to prioritize how to spend your time, honestly. (At least in my case, anyway. Of course there's also a ton of value in getting out of your comfort zone, but this has me thinking I should put more value in doing the stuff I can't get enough of/actually have a level of self-confidence in, haha.) Thanks, guys!

Quick story - back in 2014 I read an interview with Rob about how he was frustrated with not getting opportunities and so he made his own opportunity with Sunny by seeing through his vision and working his ass off - I had recently graduated from college and after a great interview with a big sports media company, they didn't hire me because I wasn't an athlete and they thought an athlete in that sport - WHO WASN'T A WRITER! - made more sense. I was pissed, but that interview inspired me to create my own media company, I started getting noticed for my expertise, NBC hired me to consult for the Olympics two years later, and I ended up winning an Emmy as a producer. I now go to every Olympics working for myself, and the company I interviewed with now barely exists (and the athlete they hired was ultimately fired for plagiarizing, mostly from my work). I give so much credit to Rob for not only what he did, but for constantly talking about how he did it, and I felt that same inspiration from Glenn and Charlie in this episode. They're all incredible examples of people who made their careers happen from the ground up. If you want to do something and believe in it, don't wait for an opportunity. DO IT!

13:35 this is definitely my favorite part of rewatching Sunny for the millionth time. I'm ashamed to say that when I first started watching ~12 years ago, I never gave Dee much thought. But she has become my favorite character, especially rewatching old episodes and picking up Kaitlin's reactions in the background. Of course, Dee is funny when she's in the spotlight, but it's when she's in the background that she made me appreciate Dee as a character and Kaitlin as an actor. Prime example is watching Dee's face while Dennis interviews Ben for the podcast (twooo wars??)
