WOW! The first thing you said it right... a Piro Meter and a couple of things, first I've never let my Piro meter go over 850 degrees, if pulling hard drop a gear to get the RPMs up to help cool her down! Second as an Ole School Trucker I've always let her idle till the temp gets 350 or below, it blows my mind seeing people ripping down the road and pull in somewhere and just it down! Bad for turbos!

When my factory specification radiator began leaking upon my 1999 F350, I replaced it with a welded, all aluminum radiator with an extra core row. I think it's 4 rows instead of 3. The coolant temperature monitor now never exceeds 1/4 of the display range. I realise that it might prevent the engine from fully warming, but I accept that tradeoff for peace of mind that it will never become hot.

Another good video. I run the EGT, Trans Temp and the Boost from GlowShift. I was told if you're NOT going to run a stock turbo wheel or turbo you need to run one to ensure you don't boost over 25psi. So I'm going to add a Voltage based on your video now. Thanks for the nice video. I was a little shocked you only had 3K subs so I added to that today. I may put you on my channels list for a little while to help you out some more. Anyways, Thanks for sharing. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

@@CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD Yep know what you mean, I have only around 7K, but it grows daily. I thought your videos were of good quality and instruction and felt you deserved more subs for your efforts. I know I've learned a few things from your 7.3 videos and really enjoy them. I'll be watching your channels 7.3l vids, comment and give you some thumbs ups as well. I noticed that if I didn't post at least 1 video a week my viewership went down due to YT not recommending them as much. Currently pulling down around an extra 3K a year to the family budget. Hi Clint, thanks for this one and all other videos 🙂 What do you think about the Ultragauge that hooks up to the OBD2 port ? I bought one with the 7.3 pre-programmed gauges, but since it take its info from the stock sensors, I was wondering if installing independent sensors / gauges is a must. I do intend to install a "real" EGT gauge nonetheless !

My 3 preferred gauges. I have a CS2 from edge. 1: EGT KC turbos says 1300 max temp alarm set. 2: Engine temp there is a plug right above the oil filter to install. 240 temp alarm set. ( I lost the tension pulley driving on a straight freeway and the idiot light does not help. 3: Fuel pressure This will let you know the condition of your lift pump and main pump. This can be installed on the back of your fuel bowl. Riffraff adapter 13-001. The CS2 can read everything from your computer, so preventive gauges are not in my opinion necessary on the road. I think these 3 gauges is what will save your 7.3 on the road.

I have the three gauge pillar on my 7.3 and they’re from auto meter they’re called auto meter phantoms. I don’t know if these are good or not I didn’t put them in the truck they were already installed when I bought the truck I thought auto meters were kinda in the middle area they’re not the best but they’re not the junkiest either is what I’ve been told. But weird question when it gets very very cold below freezing temperatures where I live when I first get in the truck and start it up my transmission temperature gage is fogged up I’ve never seen that before and I don’t know how it’s fogging up because they’re obviously electrical gauges that read from the sensor on the transmission so how is cold condensation getting inside my transmission gauge? None of the other gauges on the pillar fog up my boost gauge and EDT gauge are fine but for some odd reason the transmission temperature gauge fogs up when it’s 30° or lower is this a common occurrence or is there something wrong with my gauge? And if there is how is the condensation getting into just that Gage?

I have my EGT probe installed at the rear of the driver side exhaust manifold. Is that where you suggest and is that where you see the temps you mention? Because at idle i see 250-300 and normal driving closer to 600-700. Much higher than you mention... My 2001 is completely stock 166,000 and I've owned since new...
@CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD

Thats fine and you will have much higher temps at the closest source. The over all recommendation through out the diesel industry is to have the probe at the exhaust out put side of the turbo most after market exhausts like Banks big mouth have the probe location at that point I think the fact you have one will keep you informed and prevent damage Good Job !

Glad someone asked this. I have the same setup (autometer guages) and the drivers side exhaust manifold is where the instructions said to put the probe. I creaked.out a little when he said what the EGT's should be. I get about the same readings as Mr Desoto there: about 300 at idle warmed up, between 500 to 700 normal cruise, 800 to 1000 on steeper hills, towing a trailer loaded with a tractor and implements I've seen 1300 a couple of times going uphill.

20 sec' hitting 1500 then back to normal on a 7.3 is acceptable, sustained 1300 to 1500 for over a minute or longer is damaging to parts but the block and heads will take that the rest won't like I described in the vid If your goal is to keep that truck till the end of the world 1000 max back out of it and down shift and bring it back under 8 to 900 if the pull is constant up n down hills
