I was a fleet services mechanic for a large municipal government fleet department for 37 years. That included city police cars. We mostly had Ford Crown Vics, but we also had the Chevy Caprice back in the 90s and earlier when they were still making them. We also had some of the 2006-2010 Chargers, but never got any of the 2011 and newer Chargers. We kept the Crown Vics going well past their planned service life, including replacing engines. Then we switched to Ford Explorers and Chevy Tahoes. The Crown Vics were the most reliable, and the easiest and least expensive to keep going. They are the ones cops liked the best. The Ford Explorer was by far the least reliable. We had a long list of problems with those. I left that job in 2021, and we did not get ANY new vehicles that year. We even "recommissioned" some vehicles that were waiting to be sent to auction. I have been driving Ford Crown Vics and Mercury Grand Marquis for nearly 30 years. Say what you want about them, they are probably the most reliable cars ever made. Even the last model year still used 1990s technology. No new vehicle can even come close to being as reliable as the Crown Vic. That's why I currently have three of them. Remember, Stellantis did not exist before 2021. We never had to deal with those things. And this “Powered By Our Diversity, We Lead The Way The World Moves.” is their company slogan. That right there says a lot about what they are, and is a good explanation of why their vehicles are JUNK.

Where I live while we don’t have Crown vics we use the Japan version the Toyota Hilux as police cars most are undercover but if you saw one trust me you would not know the difference

Stellantis will do their best to weasel out as many engine refits/repairs as possible! Cheaply made, easily broken. Blame the Bean counters, they have the final say on costing of components.

We had a fleet of Durangos starting in 2019. We purchased 3 more in 2020. At that time we had a total of 5 in service as patrol units, and 1 as an admin vehicle. All 5 patrol units had oil cooler failures, three had multiple oil cooler failures. Our first two oil cooler failed in the first 3000 miles of those two units. The oil cooler is the problem as it is a two piece design with plastic and cheap stamped steel. This problem didn't appear on commercial Durangos, because they do not have oil coolers. Only the Fleet and SRT models are equipped with them. FWIW the SRT versions use a single piece billet design, and doesn't doesn't have the same issues. My understanding was Dodge was going to use the SRT design oil cooler on the new 2024 Fleet Durangos. Apparently someone didn't get that memo since ISP Duangos, 2024 models are still suffering from the same issue. Our resolution was to remove and bypass the oil cooler. OIl temps only increased by a few degrees. With the bypass, not a single one of them had a failure again. FWIW, we also had multiple charger patrol and admin vehicles. All of them have been bullet proof. It's a shame Dodge stop producing the decent patrol vehicle and continued to produce the Durango junk.

Many moons ago, I used remote dual oil filters where the housing used air to oil cooling in addition to having two oil filters. This was on a Dodge 3/4 ton van and a 1 ton 4WD pick up truck where there was plenty of open space. On a 2007 5.7 Hemi Charger, I installed an external oil cooler like used for a transmission cooler. Never had an issue with overheating engine oil. There are only a few locations where anti-freeze can get into engine oil. The oil cooler or a head gasket. If it's head gasket related, the combustion gas color change indicator will show the failed component.

They advertised and sold them as patrol vehicles with claimed enhancements for that use. To not know the intended use and to not have engineered components with in mind is 100% on them.

So.....Stellantis' excuse is that these vehicles see a more rigorous kind of usage than they would as a civilian vehicle..... Then why did Stellantis sell them as "police cars", if they aren't up to the task? Other vehicle manufacturer's police cars have upgraded equipment, suitable for heavy duty use. Did Stellantis just "get lucky" with the Chargers? Is there special equipment included in these "police" Durangos, or are they just civilian Durangos with black wheels, light packages, and big alternators ??? OR....do the folks at the factory see "the end in sight", and aren't really putting any pride in their work, assembling these vehicles anymore???

If Stellantis is smart they would warranty the engine/labor regardless of the warranty status and look into the oil cooler issue.

Stellantis customer service it appears, both in commercial/city vs private seems to be at the same level. I wonder if they don't return phone call as well? I will say, my 2019 RAM Rebel has been flawless these last 5 years, zero issues. But I suspect, they have been cutting corners in both materials and processes, because people are having issues these last few years. I'm getting a V8 truck next time, so won't be another new RAM.

You can’t make this up. Isn’t it a police model with heavy duty stuff? I think they are done here. You can’t recover from all this. Plus they want to cut 30% of US costs!?! Saw a video on a Waco dealers lot. Stuffed with new trucks and Jeeps. Most over $70,000. Who can afford it? With this quality? You can’t rebate enough to offset. All OEMs are doing the same thing. Now quality suffers. Toyota and GM too. I can’t think of a car or truck I would buy now. They are all shit. Great channel. Keep up the great work. I look forward to your next video. If my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee ever goes, I’m putting the slant six back in my 65 Dart. I’ll daily drive that until I die. They can bury me in that car.

Coolant passages, head gasket, over machined block. Under machined heads. Only takes 1 machine, to loose one limit, during manufacturing, to destroy a whole 48hr line. Poor QA.
