I was in my twenties all during the 1980s. I remember these ads. Diaper ads often showed the layers of a diaper as if it were an anatomy lesson. TV ads from 1965-1989 were awesomely entertaining...none were annoying. Most had jingles. I miss these.

I really love the creativity and the aesthetic of the 80's and their commercials. I wish it was like that today! It seemed so positive and outgoing. Today, things seem pretty basic and boring. There is not much today that has some sort of taste to it. Where did that all go?
@blakfloyd
@blakfloyd 4 жыл бұрын
Everything is about one person being an island and wrapping themselves in a blanket of technology and immersing themselves in internet-based content. I say this as a guy in his late 30s who's too broke to be able to do much more than veg out on my laptop watching youtube for hours a day, though, so maybe the issue has less to do with advertising trends and more to do with them just holding a mirror up to how bleak much of American society has become since so many of us are spinning our wheels in a hollow, check-to-check existence.
@80sCommercialVault
@80sCommercialVault 4 жыл бұрын
The reason for this IMO is that there isn't a larger cultural zeitgeist or monoculture anymore. Like you said, everyone is now their own island. Occasionally there are some movies or TV shows that sort of break out for a bit, but the idea of there being a movie, TV show or song that literally everybody has seen or heard is pretty much gone. These are the kind of things that help define decades, who we were during them, and allow us to see small cultural changes over time. And without them everything feels samey.

I loved commercials so much as a young kid in the 80s, that I would often switch channels to find commercials. I memorized them. I could tell my mom what pill to take for a headache, which cleaning product she needed for the floors, and which oil to use in her car etc. Everyone was convinced I would go into advertising. Even though I was only 5 in 87, I remember all of these, except the local ones.
