After Baker there were huge shoes to fill so they went in a new direction with the to date youngest actor enter 5. As for new Who well you know the story 11th doctor etc etc. Then classic who got 6 who was underrated IMO and overshadowed by the entirety new "mean" doctor approach. Similar to new who's 12th.

My theory is that it seems like they lost momentum after 4 and 10.1,2,and 3 provides an introduction to his core characters,identity,abilities,and world building (and 3 made it more famous),while the 4th reaps the benefit while expanding the story and completing his character as the goofy alien adventurer he is.Along with 9th we're introduced to a different situation that the Doctor has to go through and how he deals with it,with 10 as a pay-off after Parting of the Ways ended.Maybe we are (and I also mean the creators) too occupied on Tennant & Baker's fame and Doctor persona than what leads to the fame of their characters. Maybe it's not about the "big shoes to fill",but a good story and characterization that introduces something interesting about the Doctor.I could be wrong,but that's what makes "Trial of the Timelord" interesting to me despite not being interested in 6th's era. Oh my God why am I writing an essay it's supposed to be a random opinion 😭

@@nadiahapsari3359 I've definitely noticed with new Who (how intentional) who knows, but each regeneration we've had, the next incarnation lines up perfectly. 9 into 10 well that's quite self explanatory. Rose. You get this young, attractive, cool doctor, albeit still with his dark side, ready to sweep in and save her day. By the time 10s regeneration comes around well he's now a bitter and cold man. Hurt by his losses and betrayed by the universe. As we saw, not wanting to give up his regeneration so easily the doctor just had to go completely to basics. Go the youngest they've been in ages and just start completely fresh. But again by the end of that regeneration there back to a similar position. Case in point 11s new outfit and Tardis interior. Yes they may not have physically needed to regenerate yet but emotionally, having lost the ponds and everything. 11 wasn't the same. Now it was only right given how sentimental and loving 11ths personality was that the next one along should start opposite. Enter 12. Now I feel like 12 had the biggest character arc of them all, really developing and changing but I think this was all because the doctor needn't go back to his colder, grumpier ways, similar to say 1. The Doctor can open their hearts. So after going on this character development we get 13. This cool motherly aunt incarceration that's easily the one with the biggest and most open heart. Now obviously 13s run isn't all perfect. Not not at all, and I do see 13 becoming colder towards the end of three incarnation. That's why I think the specials are perfect. Having 10s physical appearance return and the bi-regeneration happen meant that the doctor was finally able to just let go.

In my opinion, 9 is still in the denial stage of grief.

Jodie is by far the worst Doctor in the rebooted series with worst episodes, so I don't think bringing her up here is a good idea. Especially given that Eccleston was the one that shaped all the good things DW had over the coming years, while Jodie is just tearing it down

The episodes she's in are mostly notable by all the things they are missing, so it's really hard to even constructively criticize them without trying to rewrite them from scratch, but most notable failures include... Lack of character arcs. Characters simply exist, they don't ever experience hardships that they'd then overcome in some meaningful sense. Lack of themes that actually get explored. Jodies reign has been kinda ironic in that her episodes have been suggestive of having themes, like racial inequality or xenophobia or whatnot... until the actual episode happens and you notice that this whole "theme" is just completely irrelevant backdrop. The only episode where I kinda got positively surprised in this regard was the space hospital episode, where the abrupt ending was thematically appropriate, paying off a character introduction from earlier and kinda provided closure to a theme that the episode had hinted at earlier. Other than that, you could be certain that nothing would ever actually get any sort of payoff. Lack of scifi fun. That's one of the most horrible offenses to me. There are multiple occasions in the story that beg for the Doctor or companions to raise some point about tools Doctor has, that could even kickstart episode plots or even season arcs... and yet, no one cares. The worst example of this is the fact that after Nan character dies, and two characters are grieving still... they come across a time machine. Anywhere in the universe you say, any time? Why is no one saying "go see or save nan?" It's hard to give any kind of complete list of that seasons failings, but I guess those are the main reasons for why her time has objectively been the lowest point of rebooted Who
