Hi Louis, I just bought Branson Cpx200H, the tray, Bransonic ec, hamilton beach convection oven. I will have to stop by a hardware store to buy the 99% alcohol, distilled water, honeywell air purifier since there was high shipping cost involved with the alcohol. I had to buy the tray and the bransonic cleaner from all-spec since they had the best prices on them. All of your videos has helped me learn new things everyday and improve my set of skills. Cheers to you Louis and Rossmann repair group inc. :)

Inspired by your video, I bought an ultrasonic cleaner and set it going with a board that starts its fans, then stops, then starts again in a loop. I'd spent many hours trying to find the fault on this board, but after a clean its now working perfectly. You're right, these things do pay for themselves - in my case after the first board! Looking forward to your new videos Louis!

With the ESD thing you said I usually don't worry to much... Except for the fact older people at my highschool may try to beat my ass if I completely destroy the computer board... So now I just have a wrist strap on my ankle connected to a file cabinet that just slips on and off with ease from a custom part i made.

I'm on my third equipment recommended by you. Crest CP500HT,Weller WHA900, and a microscope from Amscope. I also bought a Weller WES51 analog soldering station and a Metcal BVX 201 Kit (Fume Extractor) waiting on my Weller 4mm nozzle and Branson solution that is on its way. All I need is one essential thing that I left for last FLUX. I will check your website to see how to buy it from you. Have been buying these things one at a time for the past few months I'm almost readying to start. Please keep doing what you do. I have a decent paying Job ( 65-70K a year) but I already hit the top and no upside after here.

The real issue with ESD isn't the actual voltage applied to the device, but the difference in voltage applied to the pins. Frankly, if the components are on the board, there isn't gonna be much of a voltage difference between the pins, so it's pretty safe. When you grab an isolated component, there is a higher risk, but generally it's still pretty safe... After all, it the voltage difference, not the absolute voltage and the human body is pretty darn conductive and therefore generally doesn't have a high voltage difference from spot to spot.

Hey Louis, thank you for your videos. As new and hungry tech I have much to learn. I have small retail cell store so I currently only focus on cell phone repair. I've been trying to find a smaller ultrasonic unit (limited workspace) with a Tank Capacity of 3 liter (3/4 gallon) with sweeping frequencies but haven't found one yet. Is there a model you can recommend for that size? Thanks!

I repair medical equipment at Conmed Linvatec.I wear anti-static wrist bands when repairing anything at my work station.Wearing them is a small price to pay when working on expensive devices and besides it gives me peace of mind.You could touch something that's metal to ground yourself before working on electrical components but remembering to do that is just another hassle.Why risk damaging something expensive?

My daughter spilled milk on a 7950 (don't ask how) which appeared to have killed it. I tried stripping down and washing with distilled water and IPA but still no go. Think I might try an ultrasonic and see if that can bring it back to life. There are no apparent signs of water/liquid damage so maybe it got under some chips?

Question: Could this : www.bgamods.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=5170 be prevented by cleaning the mobo and chip with a good ultrasonic cleaner (for example Crest CP500HT) ? Other question: Have you ever seen this what I described on the bgamods forum ?
@rossmanngroup
@rossmanngroup 9 жыл бұрын
ProConsoles I think it would help, but not sure. I don't bother ultrasonicing during BGA rework, only after so customer has a clean looking board instead of a fluxed up mess. I never go to bgamods. I read one thread where they were talking about how people with optical camera rework stations must have small balls. I hit X, and never revisited. It just seemed like a group of people working out of their homes engaging in condescending dickwaving contests with people who actually do this for a living.

Louis Rossmann I think you are absolutely right about what you say about the forum. I think a good forum should be with people helping each other and learning from each other and where people respect each other. Not with people who think they are better then the rest, because they are a moderator or have lots of posts. Me personally learned a lot from Deusjevoo from Belgium and have daily Skype contact about lots of things. About the reballing issue, that 1 solder ball did not got connected to the mobo, I am thinking about lots of causes. Too much flux, using less flux, using (again) kester liquid flux (still have some liters, but is over date), putting pressure on the chip while doing a reflow, longer TAL times, vibrating ?? (sounds stupid) the mobo after the solder has melted. But I think it is interesting that these things just can happen, just never imagined that it could happen.

Hay Louis , I also have the same problem as A Hussain to purchase's Branson EC from Hong Kong , If I were buy EC from Aliexpress site it would cost me $568 per gallon and minimum order of 4 ... I'd alternative bought Sonicor detergent that has mild alkaline and buffing compound remover , I haven't tested the detergent yet because My dumbass used the CP500D on a 220V line while the state use 115 V, it had made a "POP" sound that damaged the power source and now I sent it back repairs... I do hope your technician be back in full swing and you Louse have a great day..

A Hussain I'd purchased about a week ago off Amazon a Seven Star F200 200 Watt 220/240V to 110/120V AC , daring the same time I sent the Ultrasonic and now I'm just waiting for a response for a Quotation for repairs and delivery ... It's Ironic that I've to send the CP500D for repairs but I if try to open Ultrasonic it won't be that easy cos it's""bolt locked"" and maybe while prying through it's chassis alignment that may cause more damage to a point where even if I'd fixed power source... well this is my BAD and a expensive to learn from...

In your newer videos you it looks like you work on them first before the ultrasonic cleaning. I believe the reason is because it hides where the damage is. Has your stance changed on this recently?
@rossmanngroup
@rossmanngroup 8 жыл бұрын
+Joel McBeth it isn't that the stance changed. it's that i used to have people working here that couldn't do board repair at all, whose job it was to fix everything that wasn't advanced board repair or data recovery. since they don't and I am doing original intake, I see no need to ultrasonic it to see if it is fixable "before it gets to louis" since I am louis and I am working on it!

I always wondered... how the fuck do you troubleshoot these modern PCBs stuffed with SMD and microcontrollers of all kinds? I mean... I am a chemist, but I'm good enough that I put an old oscilloscope found in the dumpster back to work after finding it's schematics online. But there, the most "complex" component was a transistor. If I had found boards full of microchips, I would have thrown it back in the dumpster!

It certainly is not a myth. I have had problems with ESD before but it is very rare. Also ESD immunity is engineered into the electronics, if they comply with the IEC61000 standards (I don't know the US standards).

I killed a 286 computer just cleaning the dust on it. Would boot fine before, all I did was take the cover off and remove the dust with a paintbrush. After that, dead. No re-seating of components fixed it. Modern stuff is built with greater tolerance, but that does not mean it doesn't degrade. If you look at the old training videos on the topic, they point out it may cause the component to fail months or years after the fact.

I used to hate static every winter when I was living in NYC but now it's so much worse when I moved to NV with humidity could be below 20%. If you are ACMT, you now have to take and pass the same ESD tests every year. As far as wearing an ESD wrist band, it is a tiny price to pay for ease of mind even if it only saves you 1% of your repairs from ESD. I mean would you rather have to DOA and re-install a board because you may have damaged it?
