I was lucky enough to be invited up for some aerobatics a few days ago and got taught how to do snap rolls in an Alpha 160 (Robin 2160). Great fun!!

Just saw people on Reddit talking about snap rolls and since I have 0 idea about airplanes I'm doing research. This video is way to good for someone with 800 subs

Mine is a Lomcevak setting up an inverted flat spin. Never do flat spins with somebody who just ate pizza buffet they didn't mention before hand.

Used to drive for Big Freight about 15 years ago... had to laugh when I heard the name Penner and saw that you fly out of Steinbach. My supervisor there was Jim Penner. Lots of Penners in the phone book. BTW, My wife’s cousin built an RV8, and he would do quick indexed rolls. 90° left, centred, 90° right, then centred again. I was impressed with how precise they were. He was too queasy to do any real aerobatics, so he didn’t put an inverted kit on it. Great little plane.
@LukePennerAerobatics3 жыл бұрын
Hahaha ! You bet, A LOT of us Penner’s in the phone book here in southern MB. The RV8 is a great airplane for sure !

@@LukePennerAerobatics On the subject of weight and balance, I’m 250lbs, so me in the backseat of the RV8 necessitated some fuel transfer. Hilarity ensued when the pilot hopped out before I did... the plane slowly tipped back onto the little bumper peg. He rescued me, after a period of laughter and some blackmail pics. I think you pilots are a little twisted generally.🤣😂

What do I need to get a pilots license? This is very inspiring. I think I could actually afford my own plane in a year or so but have no idea how to fly or what gatekeepers I’d need to payoff or certificates I would need to earn to do it without getting problems from the FAA
@LukePennerAerobatics6 ай бұрын
Hey sorry for the massive delay. I'm getting back into the KZfaq game now. Have you made some progress with pursuing your licence ?

Interesting video! I have only mastered half snapp rolls/ half loops well in glider aerobatics so far...Problem is loosing a lot of energy and low entry airspeed allowed.
@LukePennerAerobatics6 ай бұрын
Thanks ! I hope you've stuck with them. They take ALOT of repetition to get consistently right.
@thedoeverything4183 жыл бұрын
why the down elevator tho? i mean im used to flying model planes where you dont need down elevator but i guess its different in full size?
@Bengilmore7 ай бұрын
My only guess is if you don’t apply forward stick it could end up into a spin?
@scottriddell78934 ай бұрын
It is to maintain energy. Actual snap rolls aren't done in competition aerobatics. They are pretend, like an homage to old time barnstormers.

Awesome Luke...another guy from the Flight chops channel here. Sub'd. Question...have you ever blacked yourself out in training...or came close?
@LukePennerAerobatics3 жыл бұрын
Hey ! Thanks for the sub ! 👊🏻. Oh definitely, I’m blacked out many many times for a second or so during a long pull after negative G flight. The moment you release the stick a bit your vision comes back. Through physical exercise, practice in the airplane and various clenching methods you can eliminate the black outs. (G-LOC is a totally different thing and I’ve never come close to that... would probably need to jump into an F18 for that haha)

I've never used ailerons when flick rolling RC-models, only elevator and rudder. A bit of opposite aileron during the flick however is lots of fun, instant flat spin!

I thought snaps rolls dont use aileron but in the video it clearly shows your flaps moving smh
@AverageAviator3 жыл бұрын
flaps? none of those airplanes have flaps.... smh
@grandpa91yearold253 жыл бұрын
@@AverageAviator look at 0:10 and 1:56 .. he's clearly using ailerons.. so its not a snap roll smh
@AverageAviator3 жыл бұрын
Apparently someone hasn't ever flown a snap roll or even a spin and realized what ailerons do in a spin (which is what a snap roll is, a spin in the horizontal plane). Ailerons add more yaw and accelerate it. It's still a snap roll.
@grandpa91yearold253 жыл бұрын
@@AverageAviator apparently someone still hasn't read the basic definition of a snap roll and doesnt understand that snap rolls dont use aileron smh

@@grandpa91yearold25 let's see your snap roll then eh? See how you can do it. Since you obviously know so much better than anyone here.

Lot of talk, lot of "video-interference", lot of snap-shots, lot of movement on screen, but very little real explanation about "How to"...... Guess you're better in the cockpit
@gogogeedus5 ай бұрын
Pitch,yaw,roll. it's basically a stall spin recover.
