I never make New Year's resolutions because I feel like it's changing for the wrong reason. I make an effort to change something when it's important enough for me to change. I like your alcohol example, replacing bad habits with something not as bad, working up to something good.

I'm 29 days sober, no weed and no beer. I didn't do it as a new year resolution. I have goals in mind and I just had a strong feeling that I was gonna have tough challenges this year. I wanted to have a clear mind. No amount of days in mind, nothing. Like I predicted, 7 days ago, I learned that I was let go from my contract. After almost 2 years there, it's like my co-workers are turning against me for my final weeks. I'm tired of corporate. I'm really trying to quit the office world this year. I had a good high paying job that I hated but I was going to reach my goals faster. I just want to live quietly in nature, I'm emotionally dead inside.

Well I failed and I’m still broke. It’s like I feel like I don’t know how to succeed in this life. I have been playing music for 20 years and feel like a failure in that to bc I have never played live. Anyways just thought I would give my new years story and this year I am done saying I’m doing anything(I’m also 35 and getting scared I’m getting older with no career)

@grason9418
@grason9418 3 ай бұрын
Like Dewayne said, don't just say "this is the year". That puts too much pressure on yourself. Don't label yourself a failure, either. That's not helpful and only causes you to wallow in self pity. If you're curious, look up the Standford Prison Experiment and learn about what labels can to do a person. For the new year, just preform actions that will better you in the long run. No need to make a 'thing' out of it. Try to stick to something you enjoy and can make a life of. A lot of people can't force themselves to stick to something they hate even if they need the money. If you can't stick to a 'money maker', just do what you love and figure out how to make a living off of it. You could try to get a gig playing music at old folks homes, or teach children to play your instrument, or try to sell your music online. Good luck brother

If you feel like like running-- instead of removing yourself from the situation, offer yourself something calm. Replace fear with wisdom, knowledge and experience which supplies self-confidence. Self confidence leads to calmness and calmness leads to safety. This is pure wisdom. Dewayne, I am applying this wisdom and knowledge to my innate feeling to shut down in my relationship. Everytime he says or does something I feel I wrong (due to his ill behavior and bad mouth against me in our history) I immediately tell him to get away from me. I tell him to leave me alone and to go away. It's been a long journey with him and I do feel like giving up because I feel like it's time for HIM to change. I feel that ive been ever changing for 13 years and for him, he just gets to be stiff. I don't get it most days and I've developed such a deep anger with him and his chosen ways. I can bend if he can bend. I just want him to see the light.

I am training myself now to replace my people pleasing tendencies with new skill of setting boundaries or talking my truth (for example that I don’t like something instead of pretending I do). This is a fascinating process of transformation! It’s very similar to training dogs: the dog won’t stop to like chasing cats, for example, but if you teach her recall and reward generously, it will come to you instead of a cat. Reward yourself for making better choices 😊 Thank you, Dewayne!

Look into Buddhism also..your people pleasing is due to your ego wanting something. I'm not saying it's true but one could look at people pleasing as being greedy as you are looking for recognition? And for those who may see fit to just simply add something good to their life this year. Here’s a little advice: Start small, don’t start big. Wanna become a reader? Ok, simply read 2 minutes a day of a book, a month later increase it to a page a day, and keep growing like that until you reach your goal.

Very well put, as ever. It took me to my late forties until I managed to sort myself out. The big sneeze closed down my business, and it was the best thing that ever happened, led me on a path to happiness and a self awareness that I'd always managed to avoid. And honestly, the best thing about it was that my current situation is all the more valuable because I understand the alternative is somewhere I never want to go to again. I think the 'path' is a slope, I'm on wheels, and if I don't keep pushing forward, I might roll back.

I always noticed that whenever I gained something positive, something negative about my life(that's in my control) would seem to fade away. I guess I chalked it up to a rare instance of something good happening to me, keep in mind my origins weren't the most loving or optimistic. However with this video, you actually explained those instances. The bad things didn't just leave because of goodluck, it was because I gained something new to replace that horrible coping mechanism I had. Thanks for the small revelation, hope I can use this information to better my work habits, I definitely shrunk into a little videogame addiction as a form of escapism over the holiday break.
