In my opinion, The fact that michael didn't kill the baby seems stupid to me, since he is pure evil and it makes no sense that he does not kill a baby, he has no compassion and he doesn't follows a "code of honor" to leave the weakest alive because they are not a challenge for him...

He's not drawn to Laurie tho, that's the thing. He only ended up at Laurie's house at the end because the crazy doctor brought him there. What makes this story interesting is Michael and Laurie are still connected, but it's because SHE can't let Michael go. Her trauma has made her obsessed.

Originally, Michael was drawn to Laurie simply because she was the one who went up to his old house and dropped off the keys. Remember her dad (a Realtor) asked if she would drop them off on her way to school that morning in '78. The brother/sister thing was added in for the sequel, and is something John Carpenter did NOT want to do, the studio pretty much forced him into it. He still hates that idea to this day.

It is so much scarier when Michael Myers doesn’t have a reason for why he kills. All the previous movies tried to give a reason for why he kills or why he is seemingly immortal, but it’s scarier when we don’t know why.

This one's got a special place in my heart. First Halloween I saw in theaters. And our theater was an independent one and hired someone to dress as Michael Myers. When the theme and opening credits kicked in, a spotlight went on, there's Michael in the front row. The theater FREAKED and half the people ran for the exits. I was DYING. My friend and me got a selfie with Michael after show. The REAL reason it's got a special place in my heart? I was so spooked when I got home I locked my doors/windows at 1am...and I got a text from a girl I was talking to, who asked if i wanted to try a long distance relationship (after she'd previously turned me down). That girl is my fiance, we celebrate four years together next week and are getting married in 3weeks. Had I not seen Halloween that night, I probably wouldn't have responded to that text. So basically this movie not only got me laid, it got me a wife.

The general consensus about the baby is that the baby is unaware of what's happening/it's not a person Michael can scare in a normal way, so he has no interest. When they're old enough to be afraid of him and run away, they become fair game.
@JerryFisher
@JerryFisher Жыл бұрын
To piggyback off that consensus, it might lend an extra layer to how Michael has treated dogs as shown in the original "Halloween." He killed and ate one inside his old family home, and was shown strangling another. Perhaps the emotional reaction one dog (and presumably the other) with hostility motivated Michael? Along with other factors of course. Or I am probably just overthinking this. I have way too much time on my hands.
@rajdixit1605
@rajdixit1605 Жыл бұрын
Hadn't heard that, but it makes sense. I always figured that Michael didn't kill the baby, or the young trick or treaters, because it wouldn't be fun for him - no sport, as Arnie commented in "Predator." He killed the kid who was hunting with his dad, but that's because the kid was a little older and had a rifle (a threat) and a vehicle (something Michael needed), so he was fair game, just like the poor tow truck driver in 1978. Just my 2 cents.
@danwilliams2551
@danwilliams2551 Жыл бұрын
@@rajdixit1605 Fair point, I just figured that since he does kill that trick or treater in "Kills" (skull mask kid) that he is willing to do even younger targets than rifle boy. I think he didn't kill those trick or treaters in this one because it was on an open road in front of a bunch of people.

Very well done reboot. It has become painfully clear that they didn’t know what to do beyond this point and opted for the paycheck. I love the original franchise, and those were all paycheck sequels too, but at least they greenlit those one at a time and didn’t spend a bunch of time in the media talking about being the “true continuation of 1978” and bashing the other sequels lol. I also believe that H20 Laurie and 2018 Laurie should probably be switched. This Laurie feels like someone who saw a man try to walk towards her while on fire after finding her in the hospital. H20 Laurie is someone who was chased for 10 minutes back in ‘78 lol Also, my theory for why Michael kills: it’s always out of necessity or for enjoyment. He wants people to feel pain. That’s why he doesn’t kill babies and fellow mental patients - they wouldn’t know what’s happening to them. I also enjoy the family angle. If you analyze the original, Laurie and Tommy remind him of Judith and himself, and the movie is his adult self recreating his original murder. The sibling angle introduced in 2 follows along that same idea but literally, so I’ve always enjoyed that. I don’t think it takes mystique away from Michael - it actually allowed for multiple characters in the franchise to feel important and more interesting than the average “final girl.”

Michael isn't actually that interested in Laurie at all. In the first movie, he does follow her around in the first act of the movie because she came to his house (he briefly follows Tommy Doyle for the same reason), but his interest in her doesn't last out the day. On Halloween night, it's all Annie. From the moment he parks his car, he walks straight over to Annie and doesn't even LOOK at Laurie. He was cruising around looking for a victim he could project his sister onto to try and recreate his first kill. And he chose Annie. She's the one he stalks all night, spying on her and lurking just out of sight, exactly as he did his sister. And when he ultimately kills her, he doesn't just move on to Laurie. He just chills out in the house posing Annie with his sister's headstone. Everyone else Michael kills that night only become involved with him because they make the mistake of coming over to the house. Laurie isn't any more special than Bob or Linda; for both of them he hid (or, in the case of Linda, disguised himself) before leaping out at them and from there is was all business. Annie was the kill that he waited for. He stalked and savored it. Because Annie was the one he was interested in. Nor Laurie. And, in this movie, he doesn't care about Laurie either. He's just going around killing random people. And the only person he stalks at all is the babysitter girl who he ultimately kills after luring her into the bedroom. He only became involved in Laurie at all because the doctor drives him out to her house.

If you watch Halloween 2018 all the way to the end credits, you hear the famous breathing, just like at the end of the 1978 film. No video - audio only. This was done because the filmmakers wanted to make at least two new movies, maybe three, but they weren't sure that the 2018 film would make money, and so they had to have a way to theoretically wrap up the movie (Michael burns to death in the basement) yet leave open the possibility that Michael was somehow still alive despite being trapped in the fiery house.

I was a ten-year-old horror fan when the original Halloween came out, 1978. I have been enjoying these films as they were released. My step brother and I saw Halloween II (1981) twice at the theater because we loved it so much. It was my favorite outside of the original. But Carpenter decided to cut all those other sequels, and remake the story the way he wanted it to be. Personally, I'm so glad he did. We finally got a full story of Michael and Laurie rather than outside stories stacking in layers. After all these years, I had mixed feelings about seeing Halloween Ends. It was one last movie to look forward to, and I couldn't wait to see how this would come to a close. But at the same time I dreaded seeing it, I knew that when the ending credits started to roll, 44 years of Halloween would be over. I'm sad, about that, but very satisfied as well. Halloween 1978, 2018, 2021 and 2022 will be playing every year on my TV screen. And occasionally Halloween II (1981, just because I love it.

It was practically a prototype for the original Quantum Leap in many ways. It's still messed up what happened to the lead actor Jon Eric Hexum not long after doing that show. Perfect example of why you don't mess around with prop guns on set even if they're loaded with blanks.

I just want to write that my name is Josh and i want to write that i have exciting news. Jamie Lee Curtis has finally been nominated for an academy award for the first time for the 2023 academy awards. she's been nominated for best supporting actress for her role in the film Everything Everywhere All at Once. how exciting it would be to see Jamie Lee Curtis walk up to the oscar stage and recieve her first oscar statue. especially after she came back and reprised her role as Laurie Strode in the recent Halloween trilogy for Blumhouse too.

Why was he drawn to Laurie if not siblings?? Because she literally turned up on his doorstep the day he came home telling a kid she'd not afraid - he even came outside and watched her walk away, he was obsessed from that point on.

In these new movies he’s not necessarily drawn to her, Dr. Sartain brought Micheal to her as part of his mad scientist experiment. And Michael just does what Michael does. Though I think he got pissed off at Laurie after getting set on fire 🤣

This is my second favorite Halloween film after the first. It’s a perfect duology. One of the best parts about this film is James Jude Courtney’s portrayal of Michael Myers. He made Michael scary again. I also love that Michael really had no motive like he did in the original film. He just killed at random and would’ve never even gone to Laurie’s compound had it not been for the doctor taking him there. Laurie and Michael confront each other after he kills the babysitter and he just ignores her, even after she shoots him. It makes him that much more scarier, and makes Laurie’s trauma that much worse because she’s always worried he’s coming after her and her family when he doesn’t even register her. Also, John Carpenter’s score, with his son Cody and godson Daniel Davies, is so goddamn good. It’s the icing on top that’s evocative of the original 78 film. * *chef’s kiss* *

So, fyi, there was an awesome behind the scenes where they spoke with James Courtney (the shape) and he recalled a conversation he had with a friend when he was cast in the role. His friend asked what he was going to do differently to make his mark in this monster of a franchise. He didn't have a clue. What he ended up doing was visiting death row inmates and getting details on their methods. If you re-watch this film, you will see that no two people get killed in the same manner. And just keep in mind that each method was used by REAL killers in REAL murders.

I actually love how they get rid of all the unnecessary agenda and philosophy from old sequels and came back to simplicity from original Halloween. They even kinda make fun of it, Laurie lived in paranoia and believe that Michael is coming for her, while he literally doesn't give a f*ck about people he kills and probably doesn't even remember her
@phoenixmagi2
@phoenixmagi2 Жыл бұрын
Except that is stupid because in the original he stalked her all day. When she was in school he stalked Tommy then when she got out of school followed her home, to the doyle house, killed all her friends and set it up for her to find them and saved her for last. Michael was smart and cunning and strategic. He was not going door to door killing people like Jason so Michael doesn't even act like Michael in this movie

@@phoenixmagi2 In oryginal movie they weren't siblings. Michael stalked her only because he came across her and her friends and choose them as his victims. He didn't have any motivation and that's way more scary and interesting. Especially that he didn't even started from Laurie, he came for her friends first. He just randomly picked few annoying teens from across the street. I think making them siblings made everything to complicated and Michael didn't need a reason to kill

It was creeper seeing him kill at random, with disregard for any pattern or stalking anyone. He’d been locked up for 40 years, he was probably itching to kill people. He probably didn’t kill the baby because they were innocent of any solicitous acts. He did kill the kid, but the kid was probably older than he was when he killed his sister after she had sex with her boyfriend. Something Michael did not approve of. So maybe in his mind, anyone over the age he was at when he murdered his sister is not innocent and he kills them. But that is just a theory I thought up now.
