This was a memorable season for Buffalo, easily the best over the last decade, with so many positive vibes. Folks talk about Thompson a lot (and for good reason with 38 goals), but I would argue Skinner's 33 goals and 63 points stood out, as well as Dahlin with his 53 points, best point total by a Sabres defenseman in nearly two decades.

Rem Pitlick was a nice call on your part, I watched pretty much every game Montreal played this year and I too was really impressed with him. I'm not sure what the problem is with him because he is an obvious 20 goal candidate on any team if he played full time in the top 6. He just has that nice touch around the net and he's a hard worker. He's exactly the kind of guy I look at and wonder why no one gave him a chance to play and contribute on the score sheet. Surprisingly I think a few Blackhawks impressed me this season even though the overall team was so bad. I had wanted them to trade for Lafferty for a while and he came in and did very well as a bottom 6 energy forward. So it wasn't surprising to me, but just a shoutout to Lafferty. I was very impressed with Jakub Galvas. Although he only played a few games, he was very impressive. Reason he got sent down being because management and coaches wanted to make sure he was playing 20+ minutes every night. Stillman and Caleb Jones also had some good looks. Consistency problems definitely, but both did better than I expected overall. Entwhistle was a nice surprise as well. Very good defensively and brought some energy.

Most would look at those numbers and would think they are average to subpar. But lets take a look at what Edmonton did vs a Vesna trohpy finalist this year as well as a two time Vesna trophy finalist these playoffs. Markstrom - .848 sv% and 4.8 GAA Quick - .904 sv% and 3.43 GAA Edmonton was an offensive powerhouse during these playoffs, and Frankie played above his peers as a backup goalie

It further impresses me with how much THG knows EACH AND EVERY team. Far more so than people on most national sports networks. He can talk about the Columbus Blue Jackets or Anaheim Ducks every bit as well has he can talk about teams from Toronto, New York or Boston. "National" broadcasters could learn a lesson from this guy. Edit: A hardcore fan from say...Minnesota might know the Wild a bit better than THG. This is to be expected for anyone covering the entire league vs. a local hardcore fan or local sports caster. However ask the Wild fan, or Blues fan, Flames fan, Wings fan etc. and THG about what the 'Canes might do next summer with a third paring defensman who is due to be a UFA... THG will rattle off a coherent opinion on the matter from the top of his head while the others probably stumble with blank looks.

That St. Louis trade with O'Reilly looked like a total bust at first, but with Thompson's amazing breakout year of 38 goals even surpassing Eichel's highest total he had for Buffalo, he's turned into the massive forward Buffalo has needed for the power play and to keep games within reach for us with that lethal top line that if nothing else, will break down the defensemen. Boqvist looked good- when he was healthy, but missed 32 games due to three different injuries. Hopefully the injuries are not a trend. In the end, the Jackets gave up Jones and a draft pick (#31 overall, Nolan Allan) for Cole Sillinger, Jake Bean, Adan Boqvist and this years #6 overall. What really tilts the trade in the Jackets favor is the Black Hawks are now in an all out rebuild and could desperately use the picks they gave up. The trade saved Columbus from having to do a similar complete teardown.

As good as Jones was in Columbus, it's remarkable that he turned into three everyday players under the age of 25, for less than half the money he got in Chicago. @@It-s-me-P So maybe I would watch that video. I like my team (jets), but I don't know nearly as much about other teams, and I would like Shannon's take on team's long-term commitments to players. I expect he would focus on non-star players too, because it's no fun to talk about how buying a Matthews jersey is a safe bet. In Winnipeg there is no 9+mil player at all, so I would focus on Morrissey or Lowry, because everyone already has the Hellebuyck, Sheifele, Wheeler, or Connor Jerseys, and 3/4 of those might be gone in 18 months. Meanwhile it's interesting to contemplate Lowry as a long-term part of the team plans, why that is, and how the community feels about the player. Besides, Shannon has a whole summer of cranking out non-review/preview videos. I stand by this idea.

Love Laffy and I think he’s on the cusp of stardom. To me if he can learn to play his 80 ft game on his unnatural side to Gallant’s liking, he’ll get consistent time with Kreider and Zibanejad (who he already has great chemistry with) and then the scoring will match his optical on-ice effort. That being said when you use the word “impressed” the first Ranger that comes to mind and to me the only answer is K’Andre Miller. He’s made such great strides physically and offensively this season without stunting his defensive game (which also improved). DAMN THE RANGERS FUTURE HAS ME EXCITED

I've always favored defense. And currently, one of my favorites is Lindgren. And he's well positioned on the Adam Fox line. Like you said before, he's a beast. And his defensive defenseman mindset perfectly balances Fox offensive capabilities. The Rangers we're a better team when he was on the ice. Honorable mention - Copp and how well he messed with Panarin after the trade For the Wild, I would pick Fleury. As well as he did for himself, he made Talbot better than I've seen him since he was a Ranger himself. But without Fleury, that doesn't happen. For St Louis, my pick would be Husso. JT Miller is my choice for Vancouver. I'd tab Andersson for the Flames. As much as everyone should hate him, Evander Kane was amazing for the Oilers. PS. No one impressed me more for Detroit than Seider.

While I can respect his game, his phantom elbow towards Kadri was utterly absurd, and he's lucky he didn't hit him in the head.

I enjoy your commentary on player performance on each team is very well thought out and fact based. As a Ducks fan, I’m going to miss Ryan Getzlaf. Can’t wait for his number to be raise to the rafters of Honda Center (The Pond). 🦆 🇨🇦 🏒 🍁 ❤️ 😢

I agree that rookies like Dobson should be brought along slowly. Perhaps that's why the rangers are having problems with Laf and Kakko, neither of whom have lived up to expectations.

I love Quick but tbh he's always played well, it's just whether the team in front of him gave him any help whatsoever. The Kings player that was a real surprise to me was Trevor Moore.
