Lol the start reminded me of a discussion we had with a few friends, about the vicious cycle when people buy tons of books and courses about self-improvement, watch hundreds of videos, but forget the most important part - actually doing something :D

This is really helpful! I've also found that feeling guilty about not doing a task means I associate the task with guilt, then avoid thinking about it. So often I'm not doing a task BECAUSE I'm stressed about not doing it. Letting go of pointless guilt is really freeing.

This is literally true: I realized that, because what I was procrastinating on was figuring out why my vacuum cleaner hose had no suction, I could write the same thing in both columns: Disadvantage: It would suck. Advantage: It would suck. 😉

Thanks. My main issue is the To Do list never gets any smaller. Along side all l the chipping away is the machine of more to dos being added to the list. It's easy to procrastinate when it doesn't seem like doing stuff actually makes progress since the list seems to stay the same. Oiy.

Exercises like this are also a great way to recognize what you might need therapy for! I normally can't rely just on CBT since it dredges up a bunch of heavy personal baggage. If you're trying to implement these strategies and it's just not sticking, you might be in a similar boat and should definitely try talking to someone, even if it's just a drop-in :)

I could fill two notebooks of lists of tasks I want to achieve, but I have a full time job, social life and chores meaning I only get a few hours a week on the tasks I want to do. (I developed a lust for creativity during lock down/furlong meaning I actually had time) now I feel like I'm procrastinating on the crafts I am passionate about because life is back to normal again. After a lifetime of being told that I'm trying to do too much, I'm now trying to condition myself to do the opposite, with the hope that I find a happy middle ground, at some point. Like any working mum, the "too do" list is never ending and the tasks which need to be done (or the world will fall into chaos) are the ones which take priority and, usually, all of my time. No time left for those other task, which might require a bit of procrastination. That would be classed as a luxury. I notice that these type of books, along with the good time management and how to multi-task etc are usually written by men - who see child care responsibilities as giving a hand now and then. Yes, I'm now older and wiser and now try to persuade myself to do less, because it's literally killing me trying to do everything! At the same time, there's a cobweb which I really must tackle at some point! We'll see. x
@lynnoorman21442 жыл бұрын
I too was a working full time single mum of two boys. Work out what is truely essential. Off load as many tasks as possible. Streamline your life. Yeah , yeah, yeah - you've heard all that before - so what does it actually look like? Examples: kids can make their own sandwhiches/ breakfasts and later learn how to use a washing machine. Make your work wardrobe really easy with all tops matching all bottoms and neutral earings/ lipsticks etc. Make everything have a place so you don't waste time searching for it. Is getting rid of that cobweb essential? If you leave it - will the end of the world come or will the cobweb just be there tomorrow? If someone is gonna criticise you for said cobweb. Thank them for pointing it out and hand them a duster. ( thereby off loading a task and streaming your life!) Believe - it works. ( and if hypercritical friend/ relative doesn't come round again then thats one less stress in your life!)

Procrastination: When stuff doesn't really need doing. When your life depends on it, then you'll do it. If your life doesn't depend on it, then what the heck? Sorry and all, but what I say is true. Hi, Lefie! Even though I seldom comment, I have been following your channel since the beginning and I watch most of your releases. You might remember my comment on your piece "The end of minimalism", to which you replied. I said your minimalism was a "Cartesian Minimalism", comparing it to a chest of apples. ANYWAY, back to the point: for the first time, I actively stayed away from a release of yours, the one before this. The reason was the click-bait title. I didn't bother to comment then because I am not a hater and did not want to contribute to any negativy! And I'm commenting now because I can do it in a postive manner, since this video's title is the opposite of the previous one: it's descriptive and tells me (and others) what the video is about before clicking on it. So please, do not use click-bait titles when you can help it! Your channel has been quality-driven and unique in a quirky manner since the start. Don't change for worse. You don't need to! Best wishes, Lucas.
@sonipitts2 жыл бұрын
What about her previous title was click-baiting (I presume you are referring to the one about the card deck)? I watched the video, and the title is 100% true. Plus, that video is building off of a previous video on the same topic, so those of us who have been watching for a while already have the context and know what the video is about. There's no clickbait there. But even if it were clickbait, the fact is that whether we like it or not, the current state of the KZfaq algorithm *requires* that content producers create titles and thumbnails that intentionally create an unresolved cognitive state (aka curiosity, shock, disbelief, concern, etc) that motivates people to click on the video to scratch the itch. Creators who refuse to do so very quickly end up getting "disappeared" by the algorithm, to the point of even disappearing from the feeds of folx who are subscribed to them and on notify, and basically end up killing their channels in terms of maintaining an audience and getting seen. Most of us agree that it's not the best set-up in the history of ever, but playing by KZfaq's rules is a ground state we ALL agree to abide by when we decide to either produce or consume content on this platform. For producers, that means creating titles that drive clicks if they care even the slightest about getting the video seen by someone other than their immediate family or friends. And for consumers (including you) this means not judging creators for doing what is necessary to achieve their goals. Lefie is putting out content designed to *help others,* and no doubt also to build a vibrant, active platform and audience to support her own goals in life, like the ability to pursue and successfully launch that mystery project she alluded to in the previous video (which, as she notes, she would have possibly never taken on without her deck of life-changing cards). And the bottom line is that in order to successfully do that on KZfaq, by definition she needs to play by KZfaq's rules. So it's highly unfair to complain about her for doing a necessary thing that creates no harm, helps her achieve her goals, AND helps everyone who could be helped by her content FIND her content. And complaining about it when she and everyone else on KZfaq is literally providing all of that hard work and content to you for FREE (and that you would almost certainly NEVER have even discovered had the algorithm not decided to show it to you in the first place based on a said algorithmically based decisions)? Well...let's just say that's a behavior you might want to reconsider making a part of your core personality.

Great thoughts from both of you! It’s interesting that what turns certain people away can sometimes help others become interested. In my mind, "clickbait" is when the video doesn't deliver what the title promises - it literally baits you into clicking and then it’s all a lie - and I do try to avoid that at all costs! But to me, the previous title was just the truth: I really DO feel those cards changed my life! And I believe the video delivered on that truth and explained “how.” Sure, it may be emotional rather than descriptive, but as @sonipitts pointed out, I occasionally do this to grasp new viewers, as I’m trying to share this free info with as many people as possible and make the effort of video-making worth my time as well. As you pointed out, not all of my titles are emotional, and not all of them are descriptive. I hope you can forgive me for this! Thank you for the feedback. 🙂
@sonipitts2 жыл бұрын
@@Lefie > In my mind, "clickbait" is when the video doesn't deliver what the title promises This. While any title that actually makes you want to click could be considered "clickbait" by some, the generally accepted definition of is taken to include misleading/deceptive titles, or situations "when the link leads to content of dubious value or interest" (Mirriam-Webster). Which was absolutely not the case here, on either front. And the fact is, boring "just the facts" titles DON'T get views. Which means helpful, valuable and just plain old entertaining content goes unseen by those who would otherwise benefit form it or want to see it, and the producers of that content see no fruits form their labor aside from the literal documentation of it. And besides. Assuming the content lives up to the title, some folx (like myself) PREFER the more "clickbaity" emotional titles, because they generate excitement (both for our own upcoming enjoyment of the content and the engagement with the community around that content, and empathetic excitement for the creator, who's obviously excited about the thing they're talking about/sharing/producing), as well as an enjoyable sense of anticipation and a general feeling that something worth our time is about to go down.
