In The Hague and Leiden, there are a lot of places where you can get Nasi Goreng. We love this Indonesian dish! But why go out if you can make it at home and save some money? When you are on a student budget, it’s a very tasty meal to cook yourself. Our student in Child and Adolescent Psychology, Humaira, will show you how to make it. And what about Dutch food, Humaira? Nasi Goreng
Ingredients (for 4p):
• Garlic
• Shallot
• Onion
• Red chilli (preference)
• Salt
• Pepper
• Sugar
• Sweet soy sauce
• Cooking oil
• Rice (overnight would be better)
* Any preferred additional toppings and/or protein, in this recipe we used eggs and shrimps. But it can also be sausages, green onion, etc.
How to prepare:
1. Chop the garlic, shallot, red pepper, and onion in small pieces.
2. Sautee them in the cooking oil on the stove with a wok until they smell nice but make sure to not burn them to make sure you don't get bitter taste.
3. Put it the toppings (shrimps and eggs, and any other toppings you want) and sautee them together until they are cooked.
4. Put in the rice and make sure they are spread out and not sticking to each other; make sure they are mixed with the other ingredients as well.
5. Put in sweet soy sauce and mix until it covers everything (should be brown colored).
6. Put in salt, pepper, and sugar and mix.
7. Make sure everything is mixed thoroughly and serve in a plate.
