To no-one's surprise, this was an excellent follow-up to the best Spider-Man movie. Hopefully the next one doesn't crap the bed and fumble the trilogy!

I liked the “sluggish” pacing at the start. Just because I thought the moments were still so great. All of those human moments were deeply touching and sometimes therapeutic for me in a way.

The reveals were written perfectly in a way that was interesting but also made sense while pushing forward the story and not just being shock value. You can basically predict every twist before it happens if you pay attention and maybe have a moderate level of knowledge about the Spider-Man mythos, but it still hits hard.

I don't mind Peter having his daughter mainly because he didn't go into combat with her, he just took her to a safe facility and ended up being placed in a situation where he felt obligated to try and help someone who he sees as his son. Definitely still an issue (ESPECIALLY when I realized he was taking her in the film's finale). Either way, Jessica's fuckery is much worse in my opinion.

On a visual and audio level, Across the Spider-Verse improves drastically. The Vulture fight scene is absolutely stunning and the way each world that is featured has its own distinct style is really impressive. If you want a more tight story the first one is probably better, but for me I just love Miles and Gwen's development so much. Though its kinda a tricky spot since we still have the other movie. I watched the first film the day before I went and watched this movie and the improvements across the board for a movie I already considered peak was really impressive. I think Spot is one of the most unique villains and seeing what he becomes is downright terrifying. I really look forward to seeing what the last movie brings for him and Miles. Also Miles is my favorite Spider-man. I have never been a big Spider-man fan, I enjoyed Toby's Spider-man somewhat but none of them hit as hard as Miles did for me. Miles as a character is just really interesting, and him treading his own path is awesome.

While the first one had a tighter story, this one has some really good character arcs as well, and pairing that with the unimaginable upgrade in visuals makes for theater experience unlike anything I’ve ever seen. My first impression says this is better than the first but that could change over time

Honestly the potential child endangerment concerns kindof go away when you remember almost every Spider-Person has the most OP defensive power imaginable, spider-sense, which combined with their super reflexes would explain why Peter is comfortable taking Mayday into dangerous scenarios (like, she was probably safer being held by Peter than if she was left alone). Genuinely interesting thing about this movie is that “A Spider Person might die” is never a factor the movie wants the audience to think about; none of the characters are actually motivated at any point by avoiding their own death, none of the villains (Spot, Miguel, alt Miles) actually want to kill Miles, spider-people getting hurt is treated as comedy. The movie is essentially subtly treating the Spider-people as indestructible, which in turn helps make the children being in this situation less of a concern for the audience. Miguel even makes explicit that the one spider person death in this series, Peter A dying in Miles’ universe, was an anomaly.

Agree about the first being better. But the first is incredible. However I do think once we see the end of the story, this story will be better than the one told in the first. Again though it’s unfair to compare as they’ll have more than twice the time to tell a story. But I’m so keen for this sequel, haven’t been this keen for a movie in a series since Infinity War to endgame (apart from NWH since that was characters rumoured to be returning)

I was someone who didn't see any of the trailers and avoided absolutely everything I could about the movie. I didn't really notice the sluggish pacing. It looks like most of the smaller jokes and lamp shading were put into the trailers which kills the joke because you know when its coming. I definitely wish they could have cut down on the quips during combat by a little bit more too. Some of the dangerous and close situations they get themselves into is caused by it... But it looks like it's a common thing with all spidermen though. They always try to save everyone, but mess up because they get cocky and sloppy which escalates the situation.

But i also wished ther done it diferently ther.Peter and MayDay i get as he is a stay at home dad and spider man beeing his work he has to take her with him ( teaching her early how to use hèr powers) and he seams to stay out of the reaaal dangerous fights. What was Gwens Character assasination though? I realy do t get that? You mean when she joked about vulture? That seamed more like typicel spider hiding Fear behind the Jokes. Sheev, you should do a video on Hollywood's prejudice against animated films. Is there anyone who doesn't think Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is one of the best Batman movies ever made? Is there anyone who doesn't get teary during UP, Iron Giant, Secret of Nihm or Ferngully? Is any one who wouldn't say the animated Transformers movie from 1986 is better than any of the live action attempts? (yes Bumblebee is good , but it still has issues) We need to stop seeing animation as some second class film style and give it the respect it deserves.

I don’t think the baby/pregnancy thing is a huge problem, but it is strange. And it does make them look like reckless parents. With Mayday, I think there was at least a point to it. “Oh cute baby!” And mayday is a character from the comics. And it helps show Peter’s growth from the previous movie. Also it seems like hes trying to train her a little bit, letting her use webs n stuff. Plus she’s with him at the end so presumably she’ll have some role in the next movie. Still not an ok thing to do as a parent. But it at least seemed to have somewhat of a purpose. There was no purpose for Jess being pregnant in this movie though. No matter what mental gymnastics you wanna do, her unborn child is always in danger in a battle. Just makes them look like careless parents.
@blue-vr8dd
@blue-vr8dd 11 ай бұрын
I think it'll be a point in the next movie. there's literally no reason for her to be pregnant here, so it must come into it next movie. or maybe it was a reason for her to take the back seat, she could've done and been a lot more if she was at her best, but being pregnant, she didn't do so much. every time I see a pregnant woman in fiction, I assume there'll be a big tropey panicked labour scene at some point. maybe Miguel leaves her behind to get Miles when she starts going into labour and that makes her realise he's a huge knob, or Miles and co. help deliver her baby or something. Peter B would be good for that stuff, having been around it once already. I don't know Jessica as a character so idk who her husband is, maybe that's important. they really don't make her do much more than she can, I'm not convinced that baby is dead as fuck with what she does in the movie. I think with Peter B, they shouldn't have shown it so easy for Mayday to fall out of the "thing" he has for her - maybe design it to be more sturdy and handle the swinging. either way, she'll likely have spider-sense, and his priorities will always be her. not only did he not intend for there to be a big fight or chase, but he didn't do anything outside of that. the train thing, I guess, but at least he had his hand over her, and there wasn't much real danger of combat going on. he didn't jump in to fight at all. he was just running and chasing, having absolutely no intention of fighting Miles. the whole "lying to MJ" thing is complete bullshit. like, it's very very obvious she knew and he knew she knew. it's played off as a joke. I think the whole thing will be harder to defend in the next one, he's gonna have to fight in some way, so maybe they'll put Mayday in Penny's robot with her, or something? idk. it's an animation, so both Peter B and Jessica have my suspension of disbelief for now. I don't really care and don't think it should be that big of a deal.

another thing to note is that Jess relies on her bike a lot during combat which makes it slightly more believable because it puts less physical strain on her. does it make sense completely, no not at all but I guess the reason why she does it is that crime won't automatically stop when she is pregnant so she feels an obligation to continue to be spider woman even with this weakness. cool concept in theory but it still does not make much sense realisticly

As for Jessica, I don’t know anything about her so it’s not necessarily contradictory to anything pre-established, but it tells me that she’s not heroic and makes me not want to root for her

@@SheevTalks Ah, that makes more sense, but I still feel like within the believable constraints we see in the film, it's still not something too drastic. There have been plenty of times in comic books and television shows, etc. that children have been brought along with parents and what have you. I certainly wouldn't call it character damaging for Peter. As for Jessica Drew, I don't think it adds anything to the film but it also wasn't distracting, it was just another comic booky thing. The movie clearly isn't looking to explore what would happen if she like lost her child while fighting. I still just don't see the issue.

@@SheevTalks Also I don't really think you're supposed to root for Jessica Drew anyway, she ends up being an antagonist.

For me, this one was a massive disappointment. The visuals and the art-style(s) were great, I loved every single scene. But the quantity of woke political comments ruined most of the dialogs for me. The main character Miles was fine, he is everything that I loved in the first movie (except his powers were inconsistent compared to the first movie and the other media where his in), but the secondary characters were awful. Especially the new ones. Unfunny, pretentious, and uninteresting, or in the case of the pregnant spider woman, she was outrageous. The music was fine but not as memorable as in the first film. And the ending was placed in the worst possible time. I gived it 6 out of 10 and I hope the part two would be at least slightly better because the first film was absolutely my favorite.

I find it really weird and selective how people can complain about 'child endangerment' with Peter B. Parker and Spider-Woman, yet say nothing about the fact Miles, Gwen and Peni are all under 18 and risking their lives at every moment Its like a double standard that people refuse to acknowledge

Difference being that Miles, Gwen and Peni are much older, have the capacity to choose for themselves, and Peter B has no authority over them. Even still, he tries to stop Miles from coming along when he doesn’t see him as ready.
