I'd argue that the EU is insanely consistent, the contradictions only began to grow after 2008 with the TCW show and the dawn of the jedi comics which retconned the OG TOTJ stuff regarding the sith purebloods, alongside the legacy comics which have issues. It goes to show that Lucasfilms prior to disney had a lot of communication going on in between all its various mediums, right up until disney bought it over.

Yeah though sith doesn’t really feel right for his character At least with his goals a neutral grey Jedi would have definitely made more sense though his belief that palpatine was the best choice to rule does make it more understandable We definitely needed more explanation of his politics to truest understand his motives and a full series as a wedge is driven between him and the council and starts to build a proper relationship with Sideous would have been great It would definitely do better than andor though since people actually know who dooku is a lot more than kassian (I certainly never did since I didn’t care about rouge 1 and is why despite the praise I just haven’t bothered to check it out yet)

I think that most people making the show also don't remember that Dooku was supposed to be complex. In the Mandalorian S3 there was some random character that was actually a separatist and defended Dooku's stance. I hoped that would be interesting, but the show itself didn't actually believe that Dooku was any more than just another Sith and didn't take that stance serious. It was just: I aM SepARaTisT AnD I aM EvIL, with not even giving his logic a chance. That's because most of star wars now is committed to the fight of good versus evil with no room for anything grey

Big rant cos I need to vent... Dooku losing control and choking people out of emotion really made me think that they got his character wrong. I like the idea that he left the jedi order as a conscious decision that was based more around facts of what he knew to be right then feelings. He always came across like a very in control kinda guy who always made consice decisions even in the heat of the moment. I dont like the idea that Disney defines being a part of the dark side as having to be someone who needlessly inflicts pain and being rash. I feel like it removes several layers of depth his story had of him leaving the order. Also how nobody is pissed off that yaddle got turned into puddle and her bones were turned to powder by the big fuck off door and just lifted it up and managed to seamlessly reverse pancake herself is beyond me, I dont know how people watch this and dont face palm out of feeling as patronised as I did.

On it’s own it’s not really that interesting, but I personally love how it fits with the season as a whole. The episode shows a world in harmony, nature in balance, as Pav-Ti states they only take what they need. This notion is then given a stark contrast immediately in episode 2, as Dooku and Qui Gon descend upon a dying planet, ravaged by one senator’s avarice. To a lesser extent, it also ties into the final episode, in which Ahsoka essentially retreats to a lifestyle similar to the one from her childhood. But of course, it does not last, and she has to face the big threatening monster head on once again.

Dooku erasing the data of Kamino, and commissioning the clone army, during The Phantom Menace is absolutely a continuity fuck up. It's doubling down on the screw up from Clone Wars season 6 regarding the timing of when this took place. In Attack of the Clones, Obi Wan says that Syfo Dias was killed "almost 10 years ago." Note the "almost" part of that sentence, i.e. it was less than 10 years ago. Attack of the Clones takes place 10 years after The Phantom Menace, meaning that the clone army was commissioned after the events of The Phantom Menace. The Clone Wars messed this up too, by saying that Syfo Dias was killed whilst Valorum was still Chancellor, which can't be true if he was killed after Phantom Menace.

Basically I agree with you, but I have my own problems with this "series" My assessment of "Tales of the Jedi" is somewhat lower, since I consider the entire Dooku arch somewhat overrated. In fact, the conflict in the first and second series is repeated by the same idea - the evil senator spits on his people, and the Senate and the Jedi do not care about this. The only difference is that the second episode holds the intrigue much better and brings pleasant details, as well as the fact that the conflict between Dooku and Mace is revealed many times better than the Count's relationship with Qui-Gon, who... in fact, it wasn't in the first episode. Qui-gon just releases the senator's son in time and that's it. It's sad. The last episode also did not make a proper impression. Firstly, Yaddal is the most formulaic Jedi who speaks typical Jedi phrases (although the actress did a good job here). Secondly, this whole situation, pushing Dooku to kill her, is as banal and cliched as possible, although it always seemed to me that the Count's transition into darkness was due to more subtle events, for example, working with separatist leaders. Well, in the end, it was as stupid as possible for Yaddal to come out in front of a potential Sith lord, given the fact that one of them had recently killed Qui-Gon. A series with Ahsoka's training could potentially be better if the conflict was built between Anakin, who defends his experimental teaching methods, and the Council, which does not agree with him. This would give even more weight to the final scene, they say, it was Skywalker's departure from the old rules of the Jedi Order that helped Ahsoka survive during Order 66. Well, regarding the last series - I have read the novel in full, and I can say a lot. First of all, even if the events in the series are not the same as in the book, then we still have a retcon, because in the novel, an Organa agent came to Ahsoka, and only then they met, this definitely did not happen during the funeral. Secondly, the whole plot is based on the book, while removing a bunch of important details - the arrival of the Empire and the destruction of the old harvest; the uprising of farmers; torture and interrogation by the Inquisitor of the inhabitants of the farmer's Moon. We got a pathetic piece of history, and even the death of the Inquisitor is arranged many times worse than in the novel. In the end we have two chairs: Either Filoni rejected the entire book, which would be just a blatant crime against the NEW UNIFIED CANON (and also a great disrespect to the writer of the novel), or he simply decided to make a series inspired by it, but in the end it turned out second-rate and flat. I will look forward to your review of Andor. I love this series, and I want to hear what you think about it.
@FuddlyDud
@FuddlyDud Жыл бұрын
@Master Theory On the contrary, I’d rate that 1st episode in the Dooku arch as best! You get his openness and honesty to start, leading to openness from the citizens that will show up in Qui-Gon’s role many years later. This leads to the generic conflict which I’ll fully agree is generic. However, you get the insistence on the conflict from all 3 of the more hardened and wiser people, including Dooku to the point of forcing Qui-Gon away. Then we get the youth seeking to change things, thinking more outside the box, and ultimately bring peace where their father figures failed. It ends with peace between both sides, amends being made, and a recognition of wisdom. It’s a great portrayal of the redemptive themes Star Wars excels at telling while also showing how Qui-Gon got the best of Dooku and who Dooku was as a great Jedi. :) I’ll agree the conflict was generic, but other than that, the execution and writing made up for it.

i really agree with everything you said. They are all decent episodes, i enjoyed all of them but the fact that they are shorts makes them all feel super rushed and not fully fleshed out. I wish they followed cannon a bit more, like the training scene in epi 5 kanan and the old jedi dude meet ahsoka but later on in the clone wars and rebels they both respectively act like they've never met her. But i did like it so 8.3/10 but really should have been a 9.5-10/10 with the source material they had on hand (but all my ratings are shifted above yours since everyone's scale is subjective, i don conisder 5 average like you do, i think of it like school where 7-7.5 is average)

Totally agree, the series introduces some really great plot lines, but rushes through them, maiming their potential. Almost every episode has a moments where characters have to act atleast slightly irrational, in order for the story to get to where it needs to be to hit the timelimit. I wish we'll get a full show on dooku's fall... or just jedi's going on peacekeeping missions, slowly showing the republic's failings. The final episode probably felt the weakest... I had no problem with the set up and the idea i suppose - even the fact ashoka beat the inquisitor in one move was fine... i mean she's fought stronger opponents before - but I haaaate the "evil inquisitor" trope... like the guy got told there's a jedi on the planet, went to town... and then slaughtered everyone there? Why? Did no one tell her Ashoka was out of town, that she was coming back in some days? Why would he want to kill the people? I didn't watch rebels so idk if inquisitors are always like this, but I'm tired of seeing the empire as this stupid bad guy org, that is happy to kill its own people just because. A similar moment of: oh well i guess he's evil was the corrupt senator in dooku's story who was... turned by his son... idk... All in all an ok addition, though rewatching would probably only reveal more holes and flaws in character's descisions.

Honestly the Dooku part was the best bits, Ahsoka though just becoming an overexposed character at point, It's now getting to a point where you sigh when she appears. The character feels worn out now. Filoni really needs to learn to let go at this point, Yes Ahsoka was his Character but see seems to be now stealing the spotlight from other characters as well.

1st episode made me facepalm. What kind of idiot mother will take her 1-year old child to hunt? How are you gonna shoot a rifle when her head is right under your shoulder, how do you know that she won’t cry and scare the prey, how are you gonna chase the prey? How are you gonna protect her from a predator…oh… And this child, who doesn’t understand what’s going on and thought that tiger is just playing games with mommy, who doesn’t even talk yet, who never used the Force before, somehow not only stops the tiger from eating her, not only convinces it to give her a ride, but somehow makes it to bring her to the village which it would never come close to because it knows it would be shot…She didn’t even know in which direction the village was from them! Even Ezra, who isn’t a great character, had real trouble with calming down animals or just making them feel his emotions, and he was a teenager with some basic Force training! Bravo Dave Filoni, you made Ahsoka a Mary Sue. And the weird thing - in next episode she is failing again and again! Does that mean that training makes her worse?

I think the most important problem is that they are playing too easy. I haven't seen Tales of the Jedi, but also judging by the fact that it talks about two ex-Jedi that we got to know extensively with Clone Wars and the prequel trilogy, instead of basing its narrative on multiple Jedi, perhaps recanonizing some who seem to have disappeared from the circulation, raises many doubts about the production's desire to deliver slightly different products. We could have easily told three different stories of two episodes each, instead of 6 that were incomplete: and, perhaps, touching on periods that we have never seen on screen. In short, we are always either during the clone wars, or during the transition phase to the Empire, or, at most, in the one immediately following the destruction of the second Death Star. They really don't seem to have the slightest idea how there is such a wealth of material about the old republic, but I guess they want to keep the doors open to plunder that material when the next projects go awry too.

With just the first episode of TOTJ I felt sad. I was expecting the story that Ahsoka told in brief during the Clone Wars, where a fake Jedi came to collect her, she heard the Force saying it sus af, villagers not believing her and Plo Koon rescuing her. Instead we get Ahsoka taming a Saber Tooth and the Elder being "ooo, she a jedi!" Never mind the fact her origin story kinda trumped over Anakin's, where she used force powers from birth meanwhile Anakin didn't even fucking know until he was a twerp. The Dooku episodes I thought were good, though having Dooku lose control felt harsh on his character, given his "signature look of superiority" and him being from some noble bloodline, I felt him always being the control freak. (especially since I don't think we saw him with sith eyes ever in the movies, maybe once or twice in the clone wars?) "Resolve" sucked. I read Ahsoka back when it came out in 2016 and really enjoyed the depiction of Order 66, the immediate post-Order 66 galaxy and the story of how Ahsoka came to be Fulcrum. Then seeing Filoni trash Johnston's story to make it "his" and all that...
@the-point-bearer6689
@the-point-bearer6689 4 ай бұрын
That story bit should have made Ahsoka not discovering the Force ability when she was a baby until she is a toddler, which is when a bounty hunter who poses as a Jedi, tried to kidnap her until her parents risked their lives to save her, only to get killed by one in front of a child. Ahsoka, traumatized and not knowing what to do tries to back away, but instead she gets captured, and the plan almost succeeded on bounty hunter’s end until she (yes, it’s a she) was thwarted by Plo Koon. That’s the premise Dave should have dug up to make Ahsoka feel rather relatable and have a different master, but that never come to fruition. Heck, a different Jedi Master Ahsoka had who happened to be a Twi’lek would have avoided the issue altogether.

Thank god, episodes with Dooku are good (after bad first Ahsoka episode I was worried). Really shows you where he is coming from and what is the line between him and Qui-Gon lies. I find it weird that senator decided to shoot even though his son is a hostage, but I guess Dooku told him he was not in danger and maybe he knows how many people there are…Also weird that the guards invited Jedi to see the place of murder when they were guilty…Also why didn’t Yaddle at least try to jump backwards when she was holding the door above her, she could have survived…Granted, Sidious could have force pull her forward, but it would be nice to see.

I agree that the Dooku stuff was good, but everything Ahsoka felt pointless completely IMO. I like her as a character, but the episodes didn't show us anything new or interesting about her. An episode dedicated to how she learnt how to dodge blaster bullets? I guess it adds more emotion to the S7 CW finale, but it was a real waste of time otherwise, and a waste of an episode where we could have seen something more interesting.

Yes, this season could’ve been this or that. But I thought what it actually did was very high quality. The baby Ahsoka episode was mid, but the rest were good to great. And the concept of short stories about Jedi is really cool to me. And an effective short can be 10/10 or close to it. So yeah, it could’ve told a wider variety of stories, but I think it was still really good, and I hope they explore the idea more in the future. I mean this could be a never ending anthology series.

While the Dooku TOTJ episodes contradicted Dooku Jedi Lost, honestly, it's an improvement in this case as in the episodes Dooku has actual agency and complex motivation as a character...unlike his entire character in TCW where they threw out ANY attempts at complexity or exploration of Dooku in favor of 'The Maul Show' I agree with you that TOTJ should have just followed Dooku's story with Yoda, Mace and Qui Gon, giving us insight and development of their relationships leading to who they became in the Prequels. Instead...as with TCW, we had to spend too much time on a character that's already been done to death and then some- Ahsoka, who, like Maul, I am just so sick and tired as they keep getting brought back and serve zero actual benefit to the plot.
