What is rear wheel steering? How does four wheel steering work? Rear wheel steering operates very similarly to the front wheel steering. It can be controlled electronically or hydraulically, among other methods, and is used differently depending on speed. At high speeds, all four wheels will turn the same direction. At lower speeds, the rear wheels will turn opposite of the front wheels, allowing for greater maneuverability and faster cornering response.
