Non-classical kung fu sounds like what my teacher calls "learning to learn." It's not that he isn't after good technique, but he's more interested in how his students understand how to use their technique once they develop it. He also does that "different advice" thing where he will give one person a pointer on a technique, but give a different person different advice. He also wants you to use different techniques in different order from the forms, according to what works for them. It took me 8-9 years to figure out that's what he wanted out of me. Now I am trying to apply that to even the most basic drills we've done in class.

I met Jesse Glover once through his student Chris Sutton who I met online. Jesse was kind, soft spoken and humble. And his training methods were simple, direct and powerful. Wonderful man.

Was introduced to Steve Smith from Paul Bax. Steve then introduced me to one of Jesse's students Todd Arbuckle. That Todd introduced me to Todd Parkes. I was only able to take one class b4 I was told I could not return to class until I was fully Cvid19 injectioned,(full vaccinated). They broke my heart.

I like training martial arts ( though it's been over 10 years ). I also like watching good videos of martial arts practice. I do like talking martial arts with some people. I normally don't like watching people talk martial arts. I always enjoy Adam talk about martial arts, though! Honestly! It always feels like I was sitting in the room with you, listening. So, thanks a lot for many many interesting talks I was able to witness 🙏🙏🙏

Here is a question, with weapons, pressure testing can be fatal, the closest testable thing we have in the martial world, (relatively safely) is Mma or grappling no? Scenario based training can be added on later? As an analogy I think of deer locking horns to assert strength and dominance, competence. sure it’s not the same as fighting off wolves, but it is the best way to develop DMA(deer martial arts😊) which has crossover to when the deer might have to fight wolves? What am I missing?

One of the places I trained at was a backyard school / a fight school that experimented with what we saw living in a rough area . The guy that invited me gave me a VHS showing Jessie’s non classical ,, it showed his training methods and straightblast training. What you’re talking about . I am curious if you’ve seen this . Unfortunately I loaned it to someone …..

Question. how do you teach nckf without broadcasting it, how you deal with the monthly payments if students don't know the path or don't have the patience to do big punch million times? Must you have a base like krav maga or mma that is popular and then add it as a bonus? Is it better to accept students with or without a prior martial Arts base in order for them to know the uniqueness.

just curious. but can you tell us the reason that jesse didn't want his stuff publicized? about relationship between internal and external martial arts and source of qi, i have a theory based on information collected from various sources. basically, the whole body is connected by fascia,. the deep front line runs from you neck down to your feet and back up to you knees and there are other fascia that run through and surround all muscles and organs in your body. all your fascia is enervated and connected to vagal nerve which center of the autonomic nervous system which controls heart beat, blood pressure, breath, digestion, etc., meditation, breath control, qi gong, etc. are ways to control your autonomic nervous system. so if you can learn to consciously control over you autonomic nervous system, you can also learn to control the tension of your fascia. qi is basically the ability to consciously manipulate all your fascia which is how you can expand and contract your joints and redirect/transmit energy/power to/from the ground. any thoughts/comments?

Has Physics changed in the last 2000 years? Has the Human body grown extra limbs? If not... then anything that worked 2000 years ago... will Still work perfectly, today. As all of the technology in the Combat arts, utilize Physics... such as having superior "Leverage".. Geometry (Angles), etc... and these things will never change. As for the statement, that MMA can beat Traditional... Thats a generalized load of Horse Poop... Ive trained Traditionally... mostly in Wing Chun. However, I also cross trained in other arts methods... to best "Know the Enemy". This included specialized kicking from TKD, Muay Thai, Northern Shaolin / Wushu... as well as western Boxing Strikes. I also did Shaolin style Iron Body conditioning. However, I do not call what I did.. as being "MMA". Why? Because todays MMA, is limited to ONLY using certain arts.. and of those arts methods.. they are being taught "Watered Down" (Sportized) versions of them. The goal of modern MMA, is aimed at Sport.. and to get the fighters through as much material... as quickly as possible (with the main exception, being BJJ... in which they place MOST of the training focus on). An example, is with TKD kicks. MMA took many of the kicks from TKD... BUT... they Refuses to take the specialized "ATTRIBUTE" training, that is supposed to go along with those kicks. Such as, for example... Extending and Retracting your kicks, as slowly as possible... for a long period of time. This builds a special set of muscles, that add to your level of Control, Accuracy, and Power Output capabilities. If you are merely relying on mere Momentum... then your kicks are going to be Sloppy, and the impact potentials... will often be severely Lacking. Ive had Modern MMA fighters over to my attic, to go through one of my 1hr workouts.. followed by hitting the Sandbags, some Iron Body conditioning, various attribute and coordination building drills, kicking the heavy bag, and some sparring sessions. None of these guys, were used to the Intensity of my hardcore "Core" workout. They struggled and couldnt keep up with me, despite me being +5 yrs older than them.. AND I was also wearing like 15 lb leg weights, for the leg spins + leg lifts. Hitting the Sandbag... with their Bare fists, was completely foreign to them. I easily had Double their Impact potentials, which you could tell by the impact noise + vibrations. One of them hit my free-hanging bag, thats filled with about 15 lbs worth of steel BBs (its about 7" in diameter, at its thickest point).. and his fist turned Bright Red, stinging in pain. He turned his head to look at me, as if to say.. "You are CRAZY !!!". After our 2 to 4 hour session... these guys would never return. Once they realized just how much more Work was involved... they wanted no part of it. As far as sparring goes, I didnt start sparring until about 1 year into my training. I sparred Outside of school (against artists of all different styles)... as most Chinese arts schools do not have typical sparring within them (unlike the Ancient past. I assure you, that the original ancient fighters, fought against each other regularly... hardcore... without any protective gear). When I first started out... I had struggled to get everything to work, "INITIALLY"... However... I didnt just blame the art for my failures... I would think about each issue that I struggled with... and would do more work on certain techniques, to raise the Quality of my Execution. Id also start to realize, that I was using certain techniques, incorrectly... such as using the wrong Tech for the particular situation. I was also not used to eating heavy strikes... which shook my confidence, and so my fears caused me to lose focus, and my "FORM" crumbled, as a result. Over a long period of time, sparring pretty much every weekend... I eventually got to the point where I could maintain Flawless Traditional Form... no matter how much speed and or power, was involved. I also got to the point where I knew exactly which techs to use at the appropriate ranges, and situations.. and at that point, it became extremely rare that any of the local sport based arts artists... could get a single hit on me. That said, I still was unprepared for certain things. I had never reached the Advanced Leg-Fencing, that is taught in the later years of the Wing Chun system. I had seen some video clips about it.. but that was about it. So, when I first went up against a Muay Thai fighter... I was initially being defeated by his basic low round kick. I began trying a few methods out.. based on the clips I had seen... and after a few attempts, I had figured it out. After that.. No matter how hard he kicked, I could easily absorb it into Nothingness... and then throw rapidfire Counter-Kicks on him... to which he had no answer for. The WC leg defenses, are very similar to WCs hand techs... so it wasnt that difficult to figure out. But if you dont know it... all of your years of training, could easily be Undone... by this very simple low round kick. Now... My first WC teacher... he didnt really seem to teach the "Internal" side of Wing Chun. There were certain drills that were special, within his classes... and they do lead to some internal developments. However... he didnt enforce the students to practice them much, in school. Just a few times in the beginning few weeks.. and then, never again.. after that point. However, the next WC Teacher I had... he made the class do the entire First Form of WC, for an Entire hour... non stop. The part that is repeated 3x (Three Prayers to Buddha)... was done at an extremely SLOW pace, similar to how they train in Tai Chi. We did this for at least one entire weeks worth of in-class training... which is unheard of, in most modern schools. Of course, to get any real Internal level results.. you need to do that 1hr training session... at least every other day, for like +3 consecutive months. That is exactly what I did... and I did in fact get many amazing benefits, as a result. From Superior Strength in my Tendons... to a whole different level of "Circulation" , as well as a whole other level of "Super Consciousness" (the ability to know about 100 different data points, all at once, without having to "Shift" focus)... And a lot more... Of course, I had a bit of a Head Start as well.. As before I started taking up the arts... I had spent 3 years doing daily 1 hour long, silent Mediation sessions. I also learned special Yogic Breathing exercises, that I was practicing regularly, during that period of my life. My lung capacity increased probably 50 fold... and I gained special internal muscle and tissue controls, dealing with the breath... such as the lower dan tian control.. and being able to separate my upper lung breathing... from my lower abdomen breathing. After about 3 months of the proper meditation sessions... my brain permanently developed the "Quite Mind" state. I state where your mind is almost, or is 100% silent... allowing you to experience life in a whole different way. The quiet mind state, is super critical to combat... because you can not afford to have ANY internal Distractions from random chaotic thoughts + emotions. You also need maximum awareness (inside and outside), to be able to keep yourself in the proper positions and interactions... all within fraction of second timeframes. The mediations I did, also had exercises... where you slowly moved your focus within your body... from your head to your toes (and everything else too). This gives you a sort of Cellular level of internal Awareness and "Connection" that most have never experienced before. Id assume that its similar to the Qigong visualization exercises. Id argue, that my simplified version, probably works just as effective as the more complex Chinese methods. But since I have only a very limited depth of experience with Chinese Qigong methods, I cant fully compare each... What I can say... is that a LOT of the higher level knowledge, such as the Specialized Breathing methods... seems to have been LOST in many arts.. including within Modern Wing Chun. It was easy for me to make this realization, early on... and because of my former breath training... I was able to figure out how to put it back into the art. This improved my abilities to a whole other level of capabilities. From greater Stamina... to Iron Body protection (hydraulic blood swelling), and even in vastly greater power output levels. To recap... You typically dont have to re-invent the wheel... as the Ancestors discovered everything that works the best in REAL combat... over 1000 year ago. You merely have to make sure that you test things properly, and thoroughly... As you have to make sure that what was taught to you... is Historically Accurate (and thus, functioning as was intended). As sadly... there was, and still is.. a lot of "Corruptions" being taught, within the Chinese arts, these days. Then you have to fully Master these methods... not only in drills.. but in high stress sparring events. Some adaptations, will have to be made.. to keep things "Safe", of course. And, even Yipman himself... mentioned to Bruce Lee... about "Knowing the Enemy". Learning how other artists operate, may seem New today... but it was a very common practice, in the Ancient days of China. Furthermore... the more you know of each art... the more likely you will be able to fill in knowledge that has been Lost and or Corrupted... as most of these arts use the same Principles of Operations.. as well as the same training methods, and the same principles. Again, this all boils down to Physics.. and Human Anatomy. A Sidewards Parry, for example... is going to be virtually identical, across many countless artforms.

This is a very thorough and straightforward comment that I agree wholeheartedly with. Sports will sadly likely all but end traditional arts but if trained properly covering all the bases and taught honestly, they are without doubt superior. Great comment.

@pkb9237 You are correct. I used to train every single day, anywhere from 4 to +8hrs, 7 days a week. I grew up in poverty, and was held back from being able to do a lot of things that I wanted to do.. such as martial arts. So when I finally had the chance, at age 20, I had enormous passion and dedication. But because I had to start so late in life.. I wondered how I would ever catch up to those that started as young as 3 yrs old? I thought, that the only solution would be... is if I trained 10x longer, and 10x harder... than anyone else... that I might stand a chance. I believe I trained at that pace, for a solid 5 years, before easing up on my hours and intensity. Of course, by that point, I had already developed myself to Masterclass level abilities. At that level... you have maxed yourself to you fullest potentials... so all you have to do, is to "Maintain" what you have... and that maintenance, only requires a small amount of effort, to keep your tools "Sharp". Actually, it was at my 5th year, I decided that while I already had pretty good long, and medium range power... that I would focus specifically on Short Range Power generation. Within a few months of this daily dedication... I had developed Lethal output capabilities (Fahjin / Explosive Power), within less than two Inches of "Runway". That said, I never fully stopped learning and growing. I would also had periods where I would go in and out of the arts... partially due to my teachers that kept moving out of state, on me. This forced me to have to re-train the art from the very beginning, each time... and it made my Foundations, completely Rock Solid.. as a result. When you have such a strong base foundation... and so much experience in practice + sparring... it became fairly easy to figure out any missing information. Also, with 3 different teachers, I was getting various different methods, perspectives, and finding out missing and or corrupted information.. between each "Lineage". Eventually, I would start to investigate other Chinese arts methods... that I had previously assumed were not as effective / useful. This made me understand my own art, even better... as well as gave me even more Tools, for my Toolbox. Anyway... the thing that most people do not want to hear.. is that in order to become combat level effective.. you need to make your marital arts training, a daily Obsessive way of Life... and for a significant number of years. You cant just go to your 1 to 2 hr classes, 3 to 4 days a week... and nothing else.. and expect to become "Effective", let alone "Masterclass". You have to do a Ton of training, outside of class. And you have to be very consistent as well as putting in your full levels of Intensity, while you are training. Its only then, do you have the potential to replicate how the Elder Ancient Fighters, were capable of. Of course, I also kind of had a bit of an advantage. I grew up in a house of physical and psychological abuses... as well as got bullied a lot, by various kids, in and outside of school. This gave me a much more realistic idea about what Human Violence, was really capable of... and made me realize exactly what it was going to take, to be able to deal with such extreme violence. Thanks for reading, and your comments, Best Regards
