Episode 1 of House of the Dragon dropped a huge reveal, Aegon the Conqueror's true motivation for conquering Westeros...a dragon dream.
Aegon's dream, "The Song of Ice and Fire" foretells the coming of a Targaryen Prince/Princess that will fight and lead the side of the living in the Great War for the Dawn aka The Long Night.

Oh my god this clicks to perfectly especially with Aerys II. I was of the view that only a select few would know and the knowledge would get lost after Baelor but this makes complete sense. Aegon III and Aegon Vs attempts to bring dragons back could be because of this prophecy. I believe Aegon IV also had the wildfire dragons. Moving on to Aerys II, he quite literally said that he wanted to make a second Wall in the north and then he also mentioned a marble city ( that has more to do with Old Valryia than anything else but still). Remember prophecies are double edged swords I took it as not literally a targaryen must sit on the Throne, but I think he means be in power. I think its fAegon on the throne but also Jon being king of the north and Dany being on Dragonstone as the Queen of the narrow sea that will unify the realm. the Dragon will have 3 heads and all of that.

But when you think about it Jon is Aegon so as much as he's king in the north... If everything went according to aegon i plan, the Targaryens would've never left the iron throne it would've been aegon. Lucky for Westeros he was strong enough to unite people from a different throne

Personally I think Aerys I did tell Maekar the secret. Aerys outright refuses to consummate his marriage and make an heir. It's also during his time as king that we get some serious "pruning" of the Targaryen family tree. I think Aerys knew he wasn't supposed to be king and that it would be Maekar's descendents (more specifically Egg's) who would realize the prophecy.

In Danarys dream in the House of the Undying she has a vision og Ellia And Rhaegar after the birth of baby Aegon. When Ellia asks him if he will write a song for the baby, Rhaegar answers that his song is already written and it is the Song of Ice and Fire.

See I was under the impression that the knowledge would die with Rhaenyra. Correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t the only Kings that actively try to assist the watch the ones before the Dance? Even Maegor sent a ton of people right? Rhaenyra might have told her three oldest about the prophecy, she never had the chance to tell her youngest and thus the secret died with her. I feel like later, with the help of Lemon and Bloodraven(especially him being deep in his crow stage presumably) who were the first Targs on the wall sense Queen Allysanne, figured it out and told Rhaegar. My theory is that after the False spring, Rhaegar panicked and was like this is it, thus leading to the events as we know them come GOT.

i love the aegon prophecy! (order of the green hand also called it.) i like the idea the targ rulers all knew b/c it jibes w/ my pro-targ bias, and also b/c dany is very porbably azor ahai.

Actually Viserys is the fifth ruler because Aegon is the first,Aenys the second,Maegor the third,and Jaeharys the fourth ruler.

If the song is of ice and fire then you need both to fulfill the prophecy.

The prophecy also stated an 18 year old assassin from House Stark with a Valyrian dagger would kill the ultimate evil that dwells in the Winter Aegon just wanted more glory for House Targaryen😂

Im wondering if there could be a similar secret that was passed down through the kings of winter from king to their, and later lord to heir... that died out when lord Rikard and Brandon were put to death in king's landing with no chance for either to pass the knowledge on to Ned or Benjin at that point. Maybe the secret to WHY there must always be a stark in Winterfell or what the Stark role will be when the others return. This could explain why Torrhen Stark knelt to Aegon without any battle when normally northern pride and honor would have them fight to the last man no matter what. He may have known that with the others being real and not just a fairy tale told to scare children that they would need the kingdoms unified and the power of the dragons if they stood a chance. But with the death of lord Rikard and his direct heir Brandon, along with king Aerys and his heir Rhagar all arty basically the same time, it sends the next generation (who would actually benefit most from the knowlege) into the fight totally blind and believing the old tales are just myths and not truths

@@ieatzebraarah it just kinda clicked when I was watching your breakdown of the prophesy... just seems too similar that both lord and heir were killed so close to each other with no way to get a message to the new heir in both of the major houses that are meant to fight the others. It's very possible that bran isn't the first stark with green sight, so he could have been passing down another key that was lost

Did the show add in him saying that it's a burden that only Kings now? Well in GOT, the entire F'n North believes it. So how is this a secret again? It sounds like lazy writing to give Aegon an excuse to conquer Westeros for noble reasons instead of being just a conqueror.
