Awesome video. As a young Nigerian-American man, it's fantastic to see (and remember) the dishes I ate as a young boy. I'm excited to make this over the weekend for my girlfriend and I. Thanks Yeti!!

@temiisek When substituting Pumpkin seeds for Egusi, the seeds must be dried(try roasting in oven for about 45 mins to 1 hour) and shelled before grinding. Happy cooking!

@velvetvervet Coconut oil can also be used, it will add great flavor to your meal but the color will not be as deep. A healthier alternative will be to use canola oil and use pureed red bell peppers in the sauce, this will give a wonderful color to the soup and is equally delicious.

Please can we see the inside of the pot! One needs to know what the food looks like at every stage to be able to cook it and cook it right. I think you look gorgeous and the kitchen design is great but it's a COOKING VIDEO, we need to see the inside of the pot more than the surroundings... Thank you

1 cup = 4 fl oz = 120 ml. Sorry for the conversion mix up. Another way to reduce the red color is to heat up the oil for up to 5 minutes on high to burn off all the red color. I hope this helps! Come back and let us know how it works out.

Please, it would be very helpful if you would actually show what is in the pot at each addition or change (rather than a close up of the side of the pot) so one can ascertain what this should look like when cooking it for the first time. Also, if you could give a legible list of ingredients, as it is sometimes difficult to understand what you are saying when you name esoteric ingredients. I am trying to learn this. Thank you.
