Bridgett's life didn't go to plan, but she found happiness and freedom in her budget campervan. One of my favorite sayings is "If you want to make god laugh, tell him your plans". Like many nomads on the road, you learn you can't choose what happens to you, but you can choose how you react.

You should get out there and do it, life is so short in the grand scheme of things and that becomes more relevant with age. My mother turned 77 this summer and her memory is going, some degenerative thing like Alzheimer's but she's relatively health else wise so I'm taking her out this late fall throughout winter, about 6 months, to travel around the south and south west. She excited.

I once had a 90k job. When I lost it, I wound up taking a bus to a low paying job. However, it was then that I realized that “nothing” equals power. With nothing no one has power over you. @@brigettereed4211 I'm about to try out some party favor air horns. It seems that the aerosol ones are not as reliable as you'd like them to be. I have an old one that I keep in my house, so that if it sounds, my neighbors know that there's something seriously wrong at my place. I'm hitting the road, and I wanted another. It seems that the ones that you blow yourself have a pretty good review for noise. lol

At this point I do not need to view another "ultimate van conversion". For many of us aspiring van people these are the kind of videos that matter. They answer the question "how can can I do this van recreation/ life thing?" Budget and simplicity questions are are fairly paramount for many of us. So thank you brigett for posting this explanation of how in can be done, and how to have a balanced commitment to all the technology and so forth. Also Pepper spray was something I never thought of and your dog looks totally awesome and so are you!

I just turned 61 yesterday.......and don't think that it's old. It's a relative thing. When you're 20, 60 is old. When you're 50 it's not. Now being 60 I think 80 is old!!! 70 isn't BUT 80??? Yes....when I get to be 80 (God willing) I will finally have arrived at being an old lady haha!!! Then again I just split up with my 38 year old Husband of 8 years so obviously I don't feel old at this stage! I'm about to embark on a whole new chapter of my life and taking off for a U.S/Canada/Alaska tour for the next 10 years or so!!! When I got divorced in 2009, I sold everything I owned that would not fit in my Mustang. Jumped in it and drove away from the midwest to South Carolina. It was scary going from the traditional family with a mortgage and all the furnishings to nothing but a car and cash. I drove down and stayed with a friend for about two weeks and started a whole new life by myself. It was very empowering and uplifting. I wasn't living in my car, but I can relate. I could be happy anywhere and with very little. We put too much value on material things. I envy all the adventures you will have. Safe travels and thanks for sharing!

This video reminds me when I first started thinking about traveling in an RV years back, that was before I came across videos about living in a van. Unfortunately I had to get the van to be in LA for work not for traveling. Hopefully, in a couple of years I'll be free to travel like this lovely lady. Safe travels

I love these simple "real" stories more than those pimped out vans. The usually are just too fake, and superficial. Not to mention stressful, because it takes so much money for junk you really don't need. Don't get me wrong. Do what you want. I just don't see the point of hauling 500 pounds of timber and granite that you don't need. Kinda missing the point of Van living IMO. This set up was perfect, affordable, and practical.

a thought on Safety: when shutting down for the night park so you can drive forward and away from any danger, not headed into a parking space where you have to back up. And have an extra ignition key At The Ready, not the one on your daily key ring you have to fumble to fine, just a separate ignition key that is always kept on the engine cover, maybe under a map or coffee cup. - cool tour

Yes, I agree.... a single woman alone on the road is wise to have a dog, & the bigger the better, I feel! For one thing, should anyone come around the van while you're sleeping, the dog will alert you in nothing flat. It may mean a few inconveniences in some ways, but those would be small in comparison to the companionship and safety a dog has to offer!

If it's too hot for the dog to stay in the van, I take him to a dog daycare place when I have a client meeting or have to run extended errands. I work with fertilizer application equipment, so I know about rust. Apply Naval Jelly to rust as a cheap and very effective solution. Apply it, let dry for two days, no need to wash it off, then paint over it. The rust will reharden into good metal. It is available from paint department at Home Depot. Naval Jelly may be a restricted product in California. If not in California, stock up when out of state or order online.

Penelope Nichols ya, & if it’s dark, make sure you have it aimed towards the intruder before going full blast or you might find yourself macing yourself in the face.💨🤦🏻‍♀️..😂 One night, my friend was going home from a late night out with a friend drinking, she had to walk down a dark pathway to get to her door as I guess the light 💡 was out, anyways, she heard a noise behind her, got scared & because it was pretty dark, she couldn’t see a anything, & I’m sure being shit faced didn’t help the situation, she was scrabbling for the pepper spray & didn’t realize she had it aimed the wrong way & sprayed herself right in the face. It ended up being her fucking cat following her wanting to be let in I guess & she fell ass backwards into her trash cans getting stuck. She ended up telling me the next morning that her fiancé heard the crash, the Cat screeching, her yelling & screaming because she maced herself in the face & was now blind, drunk & stuck in a trash can ass first. No fucking lie.. that was over 20 yrs ago & I still LMAO
