The way that this anti aging movement on TikTok looks-like the addiction and obsession aspect of it-makes me think that this is a slippery slope to basically ending up mentally where people with EDs are at. I feel like physical limitations is something none of these "clean girls" have ever had to really think about. Such a good point! I wonder how the suction works too - right after I had my wisdom teeth out, I wasn't supposed to use straws because of the stitches in my mouth. And any issues with pursing lips, either chronic or acute, would definitely mean assistive devices like this would be important

you're probably right; but it was also marketed as an anti wrinkle straw because many ability aids have to be also sold to the general public to make any kind of proffit since the ability aid market is usually handled at a much lower profit margin (and even getting into mass production is hard without some kind of proffits to feed back into the machine) It does look like its designed for someone with real issues though, no one is going to go through the engineering designed to get a straw with one closed end to function properly without either having a guaranteed profit involved, or genuinely wanting to solve a real problem.

To clarify: sleeping on your side or face doesn’t actually necessarily cause wrinkles. It can make them more prominent when you get older but it isn’t important to make them not be there. As an artist, getting to learn to draw faces changed my whole view on beauty. I'm gonna be honest and say that deliberately making your faces uneven to make them more natural and pleasing taught me a valuable lesson. I find beauty and intricacy in wrinkles, skin imperfections, bumps, scars and bruises; they're what adds details and tell stories without the need for words. Drawing a smooth and perfect face is boring. This view on art is what made me marvel at imperfections and love every single one of them! I am excited to age and see my body change to reflect my life experiences! True beauty, in my opinion (as beauty has always been subjective, after all), is found within the marks that life has left upon you, as each and everyone of them tells a story, a memory. It is hard to love your body all the time, and it is okay to hate it sometimes. It's the bad days that make the good days shine. But I dearly wish for each and everyone of you to find pride in yourself and the marks your stories left upon you. ❤️

Love this take! I study the brain and have developed a similar appreciation for the variety of humanity knowing that each individual is shaped by their predisposed genetics and the environments they've been exposed to. Additionally, it helps to take away some of the prejudice we hold based on what society has deemed "bad" and value each person as an equally valid human being.

Yes, this is such a good comment. I feel the same way, since learning to draw I now find that faces are so much more beautiful and the best things about peoples faces are the expressions more so than facial features. You can be incredibly perfect looking but it can cancel out a lot of the interest of the face, and attractiveness is really nothing to be with being perfect it’s often more the ‘imperfect’ that we like the most.

Kind of long story about my face wrinkles- I was in my late 20s and I was feeling pretty crappy about all the frown and smile lines I was noticing on my face. I work with disabled adults, and I had a client who was deaf and couldn't speak, but he signed and read lips a little bit. He didn't really take to anyone, but he always seemed to like me most even though I didn't really do anything different than anyone else. I can't sign, but he seemed to understand me when I spoke to him. We had a meeting with him and his mom, and he was signing to her and pointing at me smiling the whole time. Afterwards, she pulled me aside and told me that he was saying that he loved working with me and that I always made his day, because even though he couldn't hear me, my face was so expressive and "loud" that he felt like he could. And that I was the easiest to "talk" to. I had been told my whole life to "fix your face" because I've always been so dramatic with my expressions, and I knew that's why I had the wrinkles I did so young. It made me feel really good that my wrinkles had meant something more, that they meant that I had spent my life expressing my true feelings in every way possible, and that it made life a little more enjoyable for someone else. I love my wrinkles now and every emotion they represent

Conversely in the UK eggs go through basically absolutely no cleaning at all, to the point where I'd routinely get eggs with little feathers still stuck to them; this is because they come with a waxy coating that seals the egg and almost entirely stops bacteria getting in, wash the egg and you wash this coating off letting bacteria in. The idea is to ensure the chickens are free from disease before the eggs are laid and regular testing of chickens and eggs makes sure of this; in general a healthy chicken lays disease free eggs. The other upside of this is it means conditions for chickens are generally better since battery farming is perfect for breeding disease and it becomes cheaper to just treat the chickens better than to constantly deal with disease.
