It's sad because he could have been the perfect counter to Anakin and Obi-Wan. They could have made it to where, every time Grievous shows up on screen, you know the good guys are about to lose that episode. Any Jedi he fights either dies or is forced to flee, and any battle he leads, he dominates. Outside of a few instances when he's beaten back after a desperate and cataclysmic battle and escapes just as it looks like he's about to get caught. You know, treat him like the books and comics did and build him up for his ROTS showing. It would make the "ease" of Anakin and Obi-Wan driving him off and Obi-Wan's showdown with him that much more impressive. They didn't have to make Mace Windu's quote in ROTS a face value fact.

The unfortunate reality is that a competent Grievous or competent villains in general aside from Sideous would have not only undermined Sideous but also made for a poor story. Grievous works in the original clone wars cartoon because it is intentionally edgy and exaggerated, Grievous would not work in the much more light hearted The Clone Wars series

Ahsoka being killed by Anakin/Darth Vader would've cemented the fact that, at least at that point in the stort, Anakin Skywalker was gone. That not even his apprentice and little sister figure held any meaning to him and that he had committed himself fully to the dark.

I don't think that's true. I will admit that, even as someone who is very critical towards the current state of star wars, I am jaded towards a lot of criticism towards "Disney Star Wars" because there is a lot of shallow criticism of "wokeness" and media illiteracy. However, people like Schafrillas and Mr Sunday have been critical of recent Disney Star Wars and have not been called toxic or bigots because they don't fall into the same traps as certain youtubers.

Nobody is ruining Star Wars or the franchise. They’re ruining their own perspective. Their expectations of everything being the EU and Heir to the Empire has them all in a tizzy, but those weren’t written by George, by George! They don’t realize everything that happens in the EU could have (loosely) happened before the sequels. They have no idea what Dave has in mind to connect the stories much like *The Clone Wars* did for the prequels. The sequels follow George’s script loosely. He said LucasFilm won’t use his scripts, (not verbatim) but they did. That was the plan, but they didn’t bring Maul back for a third time and they didn’t use Darth Talon, a tattooed Twi’lek from the comics. They also weren’t going to inundate all the new fans with a deep dive into the Whills and Midichlorians. That can be done after they revive the franchise with new fans. That can be done in James Mangold’s *Dawn of the Jedi* or Prime Jedi movie. It will all fit together. Have patience.

Honestly Thrawn was such a misused character that he was there in name only. After Rebels Thrawn should have made a tepid alliance with Ezra and bring him back to his home world to see it in shambles from the Chiss's enemies which Thrawn would find himself NEEDING Ezra and his emerging Jedi powers to level the playing field while also showing Thrawn as the genius he is, we could also see his limited perspective blind him to the possibility of peace which Ezra would discover and complete his journey to becoming a Jedi by bridging a previously unthinkable peace. That would have been awesome. Instead, we just get Thrawn being a bad guy again when the story and Thrawn himself called for something different.

I began to hate Filoni's vision of Star Wars after how he handled ARC Troopers. In the original lore, they were specially bred to be more independent and hand trained by Jango Fett himself. I never got how they were any different from anyone else in the show when he kept making all the clones some Gi Joe soldier with their own marketable designs and personalities. Yeah, the humanization of the clones was pretty cool, but it clashed so hard with legends. I all but lost it when they introduced the inhibitor chip, being that the legends story was so much more interesting before it.
@thespanishinquisition4078
@thespanishinquisition4078 6 ай бұрын
Yeah that was pretty much my experience too. I didn't mind the personalities and designs too much, because personalities do indeed change based on environment so the clones likely would have differences there from the training regimes, interactions with other people, different conflicts they took part in, etc. And as for the designs. Well, looking at past wars soldiers sure do love to accessorize. BUT right from the start he overdid it. Sure the personalities would shift, but they would also have common traits. Sure the designs would change, but not that drastically, they're still in uniform after all. But yknow... like all the other issues with CW I was willing to overlook it to some degree... and then the Arc troopers became meaningless, specially once non-Arc commandos popped up. But yknow. I was resentful but not too hurt. And then the blasted chips just. They just broke my goodwill. That was it right there. Not only do those blasted chips erase the humanization of the clones, they were just a terrible plot device in every way and a betrayal of prior cannon so astoundingly large I could not keep any hint of hope for Dave's redemption. I could forgive many, many things. I could even tollerate the space whales... Not the chips. That crossed the red line for me.

How is maul definitive??? Cutting someone half is dangerous if you use a metal blade because they would bleed out but without the bleeding out, no vital organs was affected, I know you love your balls but it's not vital... So if we stop the person from bleeding out, the person would be perfectly fine because their organs weren't affected... Now, what cauterize better than a light saber??? The swing was fast so not enough time to broil something... It's more feasible than a stab... These brainless people think stabbing someone in the torso with a light saber is more survivable than being cut in half at your waist because one looks bigger than the other because they only think with visuals... A stab to the torso gets something vital, it stays long in the body so the light saber is going to be broiling their insides for much longer and lastly, pulling it out causes even more damage... But they don't see this... They just see that one is bigger than the other without realizing that where maul was cut from won't be any different from being cut in half through your calf with an instant cauterization weapon... But these guys can't think and they say stupid things in the process because they haven't thought about it...

@LeRossSawin-Porter-tt6hr
@LeRossSawin-Porter-tt6hr 5 ай бұрын
@omarbaba9892 In EU, there were 150 orders that clones were supposed to follow without question, to include order 66, and orders to arrest the chancellor should he be deemed unfit for office. Also, the clone wars series seems to romanticize the relationship between the clones and the jedi a bit. Sure, there was a respect between them, but it was also shown that the jedi were incompetent strategists and got a lot of clones killed. There were plenty of clones who hated their generals, and on top of that, from everyone's perspective, the jedi just attempted a coup against the chancellor and the republic. Being a sith wasn't outlawed, and there was no public evidence yet that Palpatine manipulated the clone wars. So there was a lot of good reasons for why the clones would follow order 66.

How does the New Republic even work? Why should the Chancellor hold a vote in the Senate to allow the general (!) to take a squadron if only one senator can approve this mission? Huyang throughout the series: gives logical and rational arguments for why Ahsoka's actions are idiotic. Ahsoka: no. Do as I say, I have plot armor and plot luck. Huyang: Okay. Minefield. Do you have any idea how many mines it takes to mine SPACE? And how long will it take? And why weren't any whales harmed by them? Naturally, flying straight through the wreckage, you won’t damage even the antenna on your boat... Sabin, you still haven’t told Ezra the situation, even though you don’t have time? What a stupid cow you are... How did Beilan and Shin negotiate with the red riders, who obviously do not know their language and who caught them over the corpses of their comrades? Naturally, Ahsoka and Sabine can connect mentally, despite the fact that Sabine is insensitive to the Force... and Ezra is sitting next to her, but Ahsoka does not feel him... Witches can not only sense Ahsoka, but also determine her position on the map with an accuracy of up to a meter? But they couldn't find Ezra for 10 years? Thrawn, if you don't care whether you defeat your enemies or not because you'll get off the planet, why don't you just shoot and bomb them from the air instead of sending a useless landing party? Actually, you don’t have many soldiers left, and you still have to fight the Republic... Ezra. You're a fucking Jedi. Take your fucking lightsaber and fight Shin! Sabin doesn't even use it! Ezra is so strong that he can forcefully stop Shin's blows, but Shin can knock him back and knock him out? The Ninja Turtles invented flying armored personnel carriers, but they shoot with fucking slingshots? By armored riders? How about just running them over? Ahsoka, why did you jump off to fight Baylan if your goal is to help Ezra and Ahsoka and he doesn’t threaten them? And your plan was to let Huyang burn you with flashes? Naturally, Ahsoka can simply drive into the frame through a crowd of stormtroopers, they can’t do anything at all... How about disarming and tying up Shin so you have a hostage and an extra lightsaber? No? In short, I've had enough. The series is shit, which will be licked because they showed us a hologram of Anakin and he said “Ventress.” Filoni is an arrogant hack, no better than Abrams or Johnson. Thanks everyone for reading.

WBW (world between worlds) by filoni's on words is where ALL OF TIME and SPACE connects... with that quote in mind! all of time would include past, present... and future! which means! 1) either the future is linear and that means that there is no such thing as free will or choice in the star wars galaxy. everything was predetermined long before you were ever born! meaning lukes willingness to sacrifice himself in order to try and redeem his father is not a sacrifice, for he never had the ability to choose not to do it! anakins redemption is meaningless because he could only ever of gotten redeemed at this very moment! so no free will means there is no stakes or tension, its all fate! or 2) what yoda said and that the future is always in motion and never set in stone means that dave filoni's WBW introduces a star wars multiverse scenario into star wars! because the future is not linear it has countless branching time lines thanks to the wbw being where ALL OF TIME AND SPACE connects! and because the WBW is time travel with extra steps its now also multiverse traveling! and every portal in the WBW can lead to a different time line where another choice was made, or a time line where palpatine was a jedi knight during the purge.... and here is the thing, you can tell from my spelling and grammar that i am NOT a writer, only a humble vicitim of the american public school system... however, i can save ahsoka better than dave filoni can and i came up with this while on the toilet in a QT (a gas station) when we see in rebels where ahsoka stabs the ground of the temple top downward with both her sabers it starts to crack and separate... instead of creating time travel to save her, have it to when vader does a series of heavy downward attacks the force of his impacts as she struggles to block them causes the now weakened floor to collapse causing ahsoka to fall right before the ancient sith super weapon explodes. the fall leaves ahsoka badly wouneded yet alive and also trapped on malachor until she is able to scout, salvage and repair mauls ship or one of the inquisitors ships to get off the planet or repairs them enough to be able to send out a distress beacon for an eventual rescue by people in range. the above sets to do 2 things. 1) save ahsoka without breaking the star wars universe and 2) to explain why ahsoka was not around during the tail end of the galactic civil war in a lore friendly way. it is not perfect but it is far better than filoni option

That's the difference. George was a great creative. Sometimes he wasn't a great writer and his best works were often when he had help in that department. That's fine. But he had a clear vision and created a great sandbox for the world of Star Wars. Dave's writing is generally derivative and extremely low-quality on top of that. It's to the point where even George's worst writing looks masterful when compared to Filoni. Both are fairly good directors as far as visual go. Ahsoka looked like a great middle ground between the Prequels and OT. But at least George understood his characters and their motivations and the need to portray that even if he struggled at times on screen to get his actors to emote correctly or write less clunky dialogue. Dave's writing and characters come off as cartoons. Which works for an animated children's show. But not for a live action outing that's supposed to be based in a in universe where people have average to above average IQ. 😂

I think George was talking about bluster and naivete when saying Ahsoka wouldn't be afraid of grievous. Teenagers aren't known for being of sound mind and a Jedi like Ahoska even moreso. Remember what Yoda said in AOTC when Obi-Wan talked about Anakin's pride and hubris? "Yes, a flaw more and more common among the Jedi. Even the old, more experienced ones." Not to mention how Jedi are trained from infancy to master their fear. And that's really the sense I get from Dave in regards to him being George's student. To quote Anakin from Legacy: "You know so much. You understand so little." Also, saying Ahsoka being small would be a boon shows he has no idea how sword fights work. The difference isn't nearly big enough to make her hard to hit, and she's nowhere near agile enough like Yoda to make it somewhat believable. She should have been destroyed by Grievous.

Ahsoka did do irreparable damage to Star Wars. Lucas once described Star Wars as there is a lightside (selflessness), a darkside (selfishness), there are choices characters make, and there are consequences for those choices. Throw in family/relationships also as Lucas said Star Wars was about family. This is all dressed up with space battles and different worlds to make it more interesting. Sabine in Ahsoka was a selfish ass who lied, stole, was a coward when she told Ezra nothing, was untrustworthy, and sacrificed the entire welfare of a galaxy and people she called family in Rebels: Hera, Zeb, Chopper, and Jacen for one guy. She was SELFISH at the start and end. Her selfishness didn't even make sense because one second, she was resigned to at best maybe finding Ezra (she thought Ahsoka was dead and was happily just winding down the clock until Thrawn left) and spending the rest of her life with him and the next she doesn't even shed a tear or get upset when he leaves. Ezra was basically a McGuffin. Sabine was a selfish ass that undid Ezra's very Jedi like sacrifice, her motives didn't make sense (if she was madly in love with him she would still be an ass but at least there is motive), she unleashes Thrawn and the Night Mothers on the galaxy. She did all of this and suffered NO CONSEQUENCES. Yes, Anakin did some horrible things as a Jedi, but he fell from grace and suffered horribly for it. Worse she is now considered a Jedi and she was forgiven by Ahsoka without even a slap on the wrest. The audience is supposed to think that Sabine "did well." This stabs at the very core idea of Star Wars. I don't think the fanbase understands this yet. Every single death in the main galaxy done by Thrawn, the reunited remnants, the Night Mothers, and the what I'm guessing are Night Brothers and Sisters in the stasis pods will be on Sabine who now as she officially is considered a Jedi represents the Jedi. Jedi has no meaning anymore. This may be the worst offense ever done to Star Wars. Going into future content this shift into two tier morality where the good guys are good simply because the writer says so no matter what they do will be very noticeable. What Star Wars is heading for is a "Jedi Order" in the new galaxy led by Ahsoka and Sabine. Likely Shin will be "redeemed" and made part of that order. I wouldn't be surprised if Shin and Sabine have a lesbian romance. They'll have this while the main galaxy burns down from Thrawn without any care at all. In the main galaxy there will be a new "Jedi Order" setup by Rey in her new movie they planned. That will likely be messed up morally also. Luke is disgraced and he dies in the sequels and Ezra will likely die in the main galaxy against Thrawn. We are heading to a place where the Jedi lose any meaning at all, and the force is female. Sabine was well liked in Rebels but now sits in character rankings around Jar Jar Binks. This character is mostly living off of her likability in Rebels so her Ahsoka ranking alone is likely even worse. Binks was canned by Lucas because he was too disliked. We have a new main character "Jedi" that is as disliked as a canned character. Think about this!

@@McKildafor I think this sums it up: From the movie "As Good as It Gets" "Receptionist: How do you write women so well? Melvin Udall (Jack Nicholson): I think of a man, and I take away reason and accountability." Filoni wrote the women to be stupid and to not be held accountable for anything. He also wrote them with no feminine traits. The characters are nothing like in the cartoons that were almost entirely written by other people in a writing room. Filoni wrote Ahsoka himself with no help. Hera should have been fired. Mon Mothma and Leia should have been fired for covering for Hera (illegally and after the fact). They should all be in jail. Hera was also a moron who just pulled the general card every two seconds. She also took a child to a war zone. Sabine was not held accountable for throwing a galaxy under the bus and dozens of stupid, emotional, and irrational things. Ahsoka was a moron for trusting Sabine and even worse for just forgiving her. Ezra was neutered so he would not outshine Sabine. This is why he did not take the lightsaber as he would have cleaned house on all the stormtroopers and Shin rather fast if he was anywhere close to how he was in Rebels. Ezra also rode bitch on the Howler which is awkward for males and impractical. He also had to get saved by Sabine multiple times because he forgot to use the force. He was made useless. This just makes Sabine look even more crazy as she then threw her galaxy under the bus to see a useless man. Ezra in the cartoon did not take shit from Sabine. If I was Ezra and she said it was complicated I would have told her "Okay think about it for an hour then we will discuss." If she says it's complicated again she'd be walking behind my vehicle until she told me what the hell was going on. Keeping the information secret just put Ezra, Sabine, and the Noti at risk. Maybe Ezra would have know a passage way or something into the fortress or a place to hide. This was all because Sabine the delicate flower could not be held accountable for her shit. She could act wildly irrational and emotional, and nothing happened to her. Others say she had been through a genocide and had lost her family but then Ezra lost his family and lost everyone for ten years. Ezra was calm, not emotional, not irrational, and he did nothing wrong to be held accountable for. They take away reason and accountability from female characters THEN also make them have tons of abilities and act stoic. Sabine is an expert with weapons, an expert with demolition, the leader of the Mandalorian rebellion, an expert slicer, an expert at science, an expert at weapon design as she made a superweapon at 13 (that the empire of close to 100 quadrillion could not figure out in five years), an expert at art, an expert and language as she knows ~14, an expert fighter, an expert pilot, an expert imperial academy student, an expert bounty hunter, a countess of clan Wren (princess of a planet), and now she has the force. Most of these she got before age 14. Ezra was a street rat who was gifted in the force and taught to be a good fighter and pilot. He was also good at sneaking around as he lived on the streets. He also went from being an immature liar and brat to sacrificing himself to save his planet and facing Thrawn and the Emperor.

Now that the crafted "savior of star wars that can do no wrong" image has been shattered he will get the criticism he deserves. As a massive star wars fan I have always felt his ego that could go unquestioned, made much of his changes and work feel more like a fanfic writer more interested in throwing his own creations into star wars rather than him "respecting lore" and telling the storys of established chars. I mean the clone wars. Literally called the clone wars. Sidelines every single clone we as fans knew and loved. To promote new clones we knew nothing about. Prime example. Commander bacara. Remember that unique clone that executed potatoe head? Ki adi? They literally replaced him for jet? Why??? You could have seen the freaking marines!! What about neyo? Bly? Gree? Appo? Cody even! Even Cody is terrible. He's sidelined to say nearly nothing and be there for lip service instead of telling his story. Another example is bad batch. Who wanted a rag tag band of moron commandos? EVERYONE WANTS DELTA SQUAD. But no. He inserted his fanatic chars in and made a series about a bunch of mentally and physically disabled morons. I may disagree on the specifics but agree 100% on the sentiment. The funny part is, I remember back when people hated Filoni. I mean back during S1 of Clone Wars, before KK destroyed SW cannon. Filoni was the biggest lore destroyer around and so many SW forums called him out repeatedly. But now KK blew everything up suddently people treat him like he's the bloody savior. Which, to use SW as an alegory, is like praising Count Dooku for fighting against Palpatine! Just because we have a common enemy doesn't mean he's in any way right. I don't hate Filoni that much. Even like CW despite being painfully aware of the lore mistreatment. But even at his best, he NEEDED reeling in. Needed to be put on a leash so he wouldn't mess up the lore. Much like Lucas, actually. We've all seen what happened when he escaped his leash. Jar Jar happened! Instead people started acting like he could do no wrong, when he's a very flawed writer at best. I'm still mad he gave the clones chips and made them slaves. To see a story about the clone perspective on order 66, and how they deal with the fact they were next on the chopping block as Palpatine would indeed eventually attack kamino and hunt them down too. To see the indoctrination fall bit by bit as they come to realize what they've done and where this is going. That would have been actually amazing. Instead we got braindead mindslaves that get slaughtered regularly by the couple defective clones that were never on board, pure good vs evil narrative with 0 nuance at the fact they're literally butchering their own kin. That has to be the biggest waste of potential in the entire saga. And "wasted potential" may as well be SW's subtitle.

I think that while there's plenty to say about Filoni, one significant mistake people are making these days imo is assume that he has all the creative control that Lucas once did. Lucasfilm is no longer one man's vision, it's just another small part of Disney. To blame him for all the problems, as if he didn't have to answer to execs at both Disney and Lucasfilm (including KK and her wonderful vision for Star Wars) is seriously misunderstanding the situation. Ultimately whether he's good or bad, he's a small part of the equation. Star Wars is just one more piece of mass produced garbage that Disney is putting out, that's why it sucks.

That showed that if nothing else, he was a hack that had no respect for the work of other story-tellers. So I completely ignored TCW and basically anything else he did. He was lionized after TLJ and I can understand why but that Filoni has NEVER respected even Lucas' own continuity. He brought back characters that George himself killed in AOTC. That's apostasy in the highest degree as far as I'm concerned. You simply don't try and override G canon. If George said it happened. It happened. Eeth Koth, Maul, etc. Ahsoka is Dave's super special "OC do not steal" and her show is the culmination of his failing as both a story teller and a creative mind if general. The fact that they didn't redraw the mural and actually tried to wring pathos out of the unfathomably goofy image of the animated Clone Wars cast plastered on a wall in a style totally divorced from any depiction of art in Star Wars really drove home the realization that this series has the depth and complexity of a McDonalds Play Place. The storytelling went from "rote Hero's Journey" to "toy commercial with literally no plot," and the weird thing is how few SW fans seem to notice the difference. The OG Star Wars series survived despite its stupidity, not because of it. The original trilogy (particularly a New Hope) kept you on this emotional knife edge where things were "fun" because they were intense, not because they were silly. Chewbacca threatening to rip off arms: fun because intense. The scene where C3P0 think he's hearing the cast screaming as they are crushed to death but in reality they are whooping with relief: fun because intense. The scene where Luke finds himself fighting a moon-sized battle station as his fellow rebels die horribly all around him: fucking incredible because intense. The funny thing is, you can see that Filoni and the other writers understand this on some level, because they try to make every single encounter between characters this legendary event replete with high drama and cool poses and dramatic samurai fight scenes. And it doesn't work because you start to realize there are no normal people left. It's just this galaxy where EVERYONE is special. We got to see Luke Skywalker in his down time, making a fool of himself, revealing that at the end of the day he was a normal guy who had decided to do something important with his life. It wasn't just that he was "special," and that purely existing meant that he would naturally interact with all the important people and do all the important things. In some part, Star Wars was about this idea that you can live every day of your life without making a difference, or that you can spend every day until you die fighting for what you believe in, but first you must believe in something. Luke's a good protagonist because he understands the importance of the things he's doing, and because the option to fuck off and make it everyone else's problem is always presented to him as an option. He DECIDES to do things. He could have rebuilt his home, buried his aunt and uncle, and spend the rest of his days with the dim awareness that life was unfair and wondering if he could have done more, KNOWING he could. But he doesn't do that. He goes on a journey right in front of our eyes. He is vulnerable in a way no other character ever is because he believes in goodness, and that belief stands the test. He learns that there in good in him, and in the awful, cruel galaxy he calls home, and in many of the strange, alien creatures that seem so threatening at first. He makes sacrifices, he learns, and decides. And his decisions inspires others. Luke's journey was never just his own, because he understood that being a good person means more than fighting bad people, it means loving them. He saves Han's life by giving him an ideal beyond survival. After an evident lifetime of deceit and fear, Han finally sees someone doing the right thing, someone who earns his begrudging trust and respect, someone who sees the good in everything, even him. Han's soul is redeemed, and he saves the entire rebellion. Luke doesn't fight Vader but he doesn't run away, that's his decision. He body-blocks the concept of destiny as it has been presented to him. He's there to stop a fight, not finish one. Giving in to the Dark Side was this tangible threat because Luke started the series going with the flow in a universe that needed people fighting for it, and because you knew his dad had done the same thing back when the Jedi were something he'd dedicated his whole life to. There were threats to Luke's character because he had one. He had a bad side, he had an impatient side, he had a side that told him he knew best. And those were FLAWS, because the writers allowed them to be. Making Star Wars this safe place where everyone looks like they just stepped out of a salon and wields some legendary blade and was trained by robot ninjas makes it fucking SHIT. I liked Star Wars when it felt like a glimpse into a different world that could conceivably exist, not into the imagination of a 13-year old DragonBall fan

If what Dave said about Lucas only intending the movies and show as canon, why did he (Lucas) include easter eggs of the EU in rereleases? Lucas never said the stories of EU were non-canon, rather they were a different kind of canon (which you could still take as one being canon and the other not, but that wasnt really Lucas' intention as evidenced by shit like the inclusion of Dash Rendar's ship taking off from Mos Eisley)

I think you're reaching here, as George said on multiple occasions that the EU was a separate universe than his movies. “There are two worlds here; There’s my world, which is the movies, and there’s this other world that has been created, which I say is the parallel universe-the licensing world of the books, games and comic books.” - George Lucas, Cinescape, July 2001 “I don’t read that stuff. I haven’t read any of the novels. I don’t know anything about that world. That’s a different world than my world. But I do try to keep it consistent. The way I do it now is they have a Star Wars Encyclopedia. So if I come up with a name or something else, I look it up and see if it has already been used. When I said [other people] could make their own Star Wars stories, we decided that, like Star Trek, we would have two universes: My universe and then this other one. They try to make their universe as consistent with mine as possible, but obviously they get enthusiastic and want to go off in other directions.” - George Lucas, Starlog, August 2005

@Lobsterwithinternet that's Lucas acknowledging the EU. I admit to reaching, but that was addressed by remark in parentheses. Ep 4 is obv canon, and Dashs ship is in the rerelease which Lucas says is canon, therefore Dash is canon.

@@MrAweeze Again, you're reaching here. At most you can say that a ship similar to the _Outrider_ was in Episode 4. And if we used that standard, not only is ET canon to Star Wars but Indiana Jones and Star Trek is as well. Both which contradict their established timelines.

Even as an OT guy that really wasn’t a fan of the prequels I still found redeeming qualities in the story George told. I may have hated jar-jar, the wooden acting, the super-powered jedi and the way the cartoons messed up movie canon but the overall story arc and the world building was still carefully put together like Star Wars should be. Just a glance at anything Disney except Rogue one and Andor and I can tell those shows/movies characters aren’t in the same universe George created…

I can’t see how anyone can think obi wan is worse than this. I always thought filoni was a hack. His works are made for children. He turned eu Thrawn into a cartoon villain. Then zahn turned his own eu Thrawn into a soap opera gundam esque savant that only exists because the emperor put a pause on his xenophobia for the point of??? Well idk, maybe so that price and Thrawn could go around on becoming cartoon villains for “relatable” reasons. As if seeing characters becoming coruscanty socialites is what we all want to see. Obiwan had terrible acting and the worst villains I’ve ever seen in any media but part of the reason is that inquisitors were always utilized as cartoon fodder. Obi wan the show served the purpose of showing how the disgraced Jedi obi wan transitioned into the hermit old Ben and I think it achieved that. I can’t say it did a good job but.. At some point they had to address the trauma of anakins betrayal. Obi wan had a purpose and achieved it somewhat heavy handidly and certainly in a way that was as ugly as it could get. But it’s so much better and more respectful to the original six than “fat Thrawn and his witch harem”

One of the reasons why I as a DM never liked setting my D&D games in existing settings, is because I had to learn too much about said setting. They had "rules" which I didn't want to be constrained by. At the same time, this is why you need Lore custodians, who can assist a writer and director into making a story that works within the setting. I know for instance Warhammer novels tend to give certain chapters to a writer. Sort of making that writer partly the custodian for that chapter of space marines. Which is a great idea, since it limits the number of rules each person needs to learn at any given time

I dropped off rebels when Vader and Thrawn became more prevalent and when they butchered lore by turning Malachore 5 into a glorified fighting arena. Ok credit to the witches of Dathomer in general they are a subset if force users that were exiled to Dathomer after learning about Sith alchemy. In that case "magic" was just the force in a guise ( in the clone wars season 7 Duku and Palpatine use it when Yoda visits Koriban). My problem with filoni and the clone wars team was making Dathomer only have nightsisters a single clan of the witches.

I was going to point that out as well but it was the only inconsistency I noticed in this 67 minute video tbh. Gandalf did fight his former master Saruman but that did not turn him white. The Balrog was never Gandalf's master. As a Maia, why does the Balrog basically only have a lot of brute strength? It doesn't seem to have brains and only has limited magic. Maybe it's because the bad guys are just tortured and maimed copies of the good guys like orcs / elves? However, I can easily believe that Filoni's level of understanding of LOTR would be that poor - and he would not bother to look it up on Wikipedia. He can't even be bothered to stick to Star Wars lore. 😂

Gandalf's Valar is of death, greif, and compassion (I forgot her, sorry), but Gandalf's fear was his weakness. It took meeting, and caring about the Hobbits for him move past his fear, and so Erù granted him mortal life again, so he alone could assist in defeating Sauron. In the book and movie, Gandalf addressing the Balrog the way he did does sort of give the idea of intelligence. At least to me. But yes, overall, it does seem to be because they are corrupted. After initially disliking her as an 8 year old boy, Ahsoka quickly grew to become my favorite character in Star Wars and she still holds a special spot in my heart. But even several years back, with Rebels essentially retconning her death, I became concerned about her continued presence in the franchise. I even began to argue that she should have died at Twilight of the Apprentice, but was somewhat hopeful that maybe, just maybe, she could find new footing. Now, after this show, I have fully accepted that yes, she should've died in Rebels. And it's just for the simple reason that if she had, they wouldn't have had this opportunity to ruin her. Sometimes it is better that your old heroes and stories are laid to rest, otherwise they'll be paraded out like circus freaks. Though, if you do lay them to rest, make sure to bury them deep and lose the map, elsewise these corporatists will dig up the corpse and puppet it them around.

That being said i love the prequels, Ahsoka frustrated me. The prequels i found the majority of the characters cool or interesting, even if you consider them poorly acted. That the rule of cool while pervasive wasnt overbearing. Ahsoka had too many bland characters. Characters that outright made stupid or out of character decisions. Right now it feels like the only thing that can save SW is total reboot, I mean basically erase every recognizable name and create new story, new heroes. KOTOR did it and did it well, same universe but no direct connections Another possibility is to take different era entirely or big time difference so at best there would be only mentions of old characters, simply to establish the connection. Again KOTOR and SWTOR, its something like 300 years between them, so we got some fan service things, but mostly connections are thin and again SWTOR got 8 pretty interesting stories for 8 classes. Most importantly - KOTOR and SWTOR shows that you dont need Vader, Luke, Kenobi, Yoda, Rebels, Resistance and so on to write a good SW story.

But also he said that fans didn't get to see the OT heroes together and as we knew them, then also hinting on that we deserved that. It felt like he had a plan with series and movies for the era up until TFA. And the feeling of getting Luke Han and Leia together again got stronger after the Mando s2 final episode. We also know that after that Kathleen got back, she fired Gina and also promoted Dave to Excecutive Creative Manager right in time for BoBF. Since then Dave have been making Creative decisions in all projects and Favreau have had less to say. I actually think this Thrawn Heir to the Empire movie might have been what Jon planned for, but Dave and Kathleen who had already hijacked Jon's plans. Filoni sounds like Kennedy trying to use Lucas name as validation while ignoring his ideas for canon

I'm glad people can say Filoni isn't good. He is the worst kind of fan. Good material, copies it and ignores what made it good, but expects you to love it cause its a nod to the Legends or uh hum, what made Star Wars good.

As much as I really like your video and how you point out all the flaws Filonis writting has and also Georges, this entire comment section is FUELED with toxic comments. I really enjoy a good discussion but man...many of the comments here coming from both sides are tiresome. Which is sad because you put so much work into this video!

Thanks for your support mate, I agree that there can be toxicity on both ends of the spectrum.

@@FloundBlacky some of those are even beyond unreasonable. Like SW is just a story and with many tie-ins, not a religion.

I have to say seeing the clips of the Lego stop animation Eddie Izard stand up bits unlocked so many memories from early KZfaq. I’m so glad to know I was not the only one who had seen those gems❤

Dave did Thrawn so dirty. If this had been written by Zahn it would have been so much better even if Thrawn technically needed to be defeated in the show.

Really solid critique! Think I found a new channel to like. And if I wasn't already sold, you ended it in a way that makes you a man after my own heart! The parts you liked are the literal reason I stuck through the whole show. Cheers, and long live the EU canon in my head and heart.
