G'day guys, sorry I've been away for so long. The currents of the Ocean often drag me away from the sheltered harbor, which makes my time here all the more special.
In my absence the Obi-Wan Kenobi series has come and gone: and it highlights the growing number of problems that Disney has with Star Wars.
So let's take a look at 3 of the biggest problems with Disney Star Wars.

A senator and a queen have their child kidnapped. They want to contact someone to hunt down the kidnappers and get the daughter back. Perhaps paying for this service, a bountiful payment no doubt... would this be better for Boba fett a litteral bounty hunter or Kenobi? Another story about a man staying on tatooine, dealing with different threats on that planet. Swoop gangs, drug dealing Pike, added lore about the Tusken Raiders, and so on. Would this be a story for Obi-Wan, who has pledged to deal with threats to Luke based on Tatooine? Or a Bounty hunter Boba Fett?

Here is a simple idea: They should have swapped the Boba Fett show and Obi Wan show. Have Obi Wan STAY on Tatooine exclusively, spending his exile tormenting himself over the past, trying to reach Qui Gon through the force, and helping to hide Luke from the Empire (by interacting with other local characters and factions similar to Boba Fett's show). Then with the Boba Fett show you have him climb out of the sarlac pit, adjust his helmet, and go accept a bounty to rescue a missing girl. Boba is the hunter and he should be travelling the galaxy to redeem himself while Obi Wan is the Jedi who should be keeping the peace and meditating on the past.
@Lobsterwithinternet
@Lobsterwithinternet 3 ай бұрын
I disagree. I don't see how both shows could have stayed on Tatooine and not been well told stories that expand both characters in new and interesting ways. The problem with Book of Boba Fett, besides bad scripts and terrible cinematography, was that it (much like most of the scrapped movies turned into TV shows) rushed the story it wanted to show and blew its load all in one season instead of stretching out and giving it time to breathe and become it's own story. Imagine if the whole first season was a flashback showing us how Boba went from crawling out of the Sarlacc pit to sitting on Jabba’s throne and then next season was learning the intricacies of being a crimeboss while fending off those two Hutts like a proper mafia story?
@EnderGhost119
@EnderGhost119 3 ай бұрын
@@Lobsterwithinternet Ofcourse a story where Boba stays on Tattooine could have worked, but it just seems so strange that they would deliberately reverse these characters and place them in scenerios where the other belonged. Yes a story where Boba stays on Tattooine and slowly becomes a proper mafia boss could have worked regardless of the Obi Wan show, but the disney writers didn't even seem like they wanted to do that. In the end Boba's career as a mafia boss consisted of him helping gaggles of poor street urchins and other "dasdardly good deeds" like that. Just a huge waste of potential all around.

Obi-Wan letting Vader live hurts Luke’s story. Obi-Wan keeps telling him that he needs to kill Vader and that there is nothing of his dad left. So it makes the scene so much more powerful when Luke spares him and Vader kills the Emperor. In the extended universe they even talk about how this makes Obi-Wan feel so guilty for abandoning Anakin so long ago. Some really great character writing that is not moot.

Twice now Obi Wan has let Vader live: afaic he's responsible for everything Vader did for the 13 years after that series is set. Vader was even begging Obi Wan to kill him: if he had, he'd have spared the galaxy much pain. What is his excuse the *second* time....

@@Blackdeathgaming-yv1kk Yeah, I know. If Kenobi really believed there was no good left in Vader then sparing him makes no sense whatsoever. It would have been better for everyone for him to finish the job then and there, instead of allowing his evil to continue and more people to be hurt. IDK whether they did it because they thought they were making Kenobi look good and "merciful" or something, but it doesn't do that at all. It only make him appear selfish, cowardly and downright irresponsible to have spared Vader *yet again*, and allowing him in the process to wreak more chaos.

@@adamtorske9236That reasoning is why Obi-Wan shouldn't have gone as his very presence would have outted the Organas as jedi collaborators and have them all arrested and executed. The best outcome would have been to bring it up with the Imperial Senate. Then it would become an Imperial matter and, since Reva did this highly illegal thing off the books and without authorization against one of the most powerful members of the Empire, she would be hunted down and killed like a dog by her own bosses including Vader. Obi-Wan wouldn't have had to lift a finger. Just stay where he was and let her plan fail all on its own.
@adamtorske9236
@adamtorske9236 3 ай бұрын
Yeah sure I agree that involving Obi-Wan could make things worse for him and Bail, but that's why Obi-Wan was also trying so hard to basically keep the rescue a secret while also keeping his identity hidden. When he found Leia it was more her that was being so kinda adventurous in a way and not being so secretive. For example, that's why he even said, "You have no idea what I'm risking being here your Highness". It was clear that Obi-Wan was not very willing to help Bail and Breha either as he probably didn't believe in himself really anymore and that his duty was to watch over Luke only, but again, as I said before Obi-Wan was Bail's Jedi friend and in a way the only one he actually trusted with this rescue mission, even probably with risking themselves, another reason could be is that he could have maybe thought it would help give Obi-Wan some much needed closure about losing Anakin and the mistakes they both had made leading up to this point, with essentially encouraging Obi-Wan to get back in the fight. Another thing is that what literally happened to their homeworld with Bail and Breha on Alderaan 10 years later, the Empire probably had actually did figure it out, and that why its also probably one of the reasons why they had chosen Alderaan for the first test of the Death Star. With your supposed best outcome, honestly, I think that would not even have been an option to ask the Imperial Senate and make it an Imperial matter because the one main reason, Emperor Palpatine, if he were to essentially tell the Imperial Senate, that would also get Palpatines attention and with seeing how he is, he would probably piece it all together and discover that Leia is actually Anakins daughter. Also, it was pretty evident that Bail didn't have much trust in the Imperial Senate, and thought that they probably wouldn't even care, as they don't care about anything else that doesn't affect them and their Galatic Empire, so why would he go to the Senate for help when he was also one of the members who was actively trying to take down the Empire hence the Rebellion. It was very important to keep Leia's true identity a secret, as the only three people who truly knew were, of course, Bail, Yoda, and Obi-Wan when she was born, having her identity be discovered could have been good at all, so who better to go to than one of the only people who know who she truly is, probably the most capable one, and finally the one who kinda needed the closure and peace from losing and essentially failing Anakin, as Bail basically said to Obi-Wan you couldn’t save Anakin, so go help and save his daughter. There are many reasons that I could go on about, and explain your questions, but sometimes I wonder if you had actually even watched the show and also simply understood the whole state of the Galaxy at that point@@Lobsterwithinternet

I hate when people use the arguments that the dialogue was never good, the acting was always cheesy….. the thing is, it could all be great. When Lucas started the franchise he had no money. When the originals were wildly successful there was plenty of money to hire fantastic writers to shape what George envisioned. George was not a writer or even a good director. He had a vision. Kirschner did a great job bringing it to life. But George didn’t like that. It’s the many extended universe stories and the Disney+ options we have , you can construct different story flavors to match an audience. Silly for kids. Deep and dark for us adults who have been enjoying it since 1977.

And that's that the bad guys can never hit any of the good guys, *except* for the one dude wearing blaster-proof armor, who they can hit all the time. Things I don't understand for this show are (besides being mostly the entire show) 1. Why would you have Obi-Wan meet Darth Vader at all. It demininshes the scene in A New Hope 2. At this point I'm so sick of the "ugh I've lost touch with the force ugh". Like why would Obi-Wan stink at using the force when his whole point is to look over and train Luke. Kinda a stinky let down of a teacher if you ask me. 3. Reva 4. Why would Bale hire Obi-Wan when he knows he's hiding in secrecy. Like bruh how'd you get this number? 5. I always assumed Leia and Obi-Wan never met. Like Leia was told about Obi-Wan and how he could help her with the empire, but never actually met her 6.. Why copy the scene with Ahsoka from Rebels 7. I also feel like Reva coming into contact with Luke and exposing him to the fact the force is real also ruins things

It kinda sold it to me, that the empire is SOO big? That it needs a lot of bureaucracy ... And that the troops kinda went soft. It kinda looks like a typical job for anyone trying to provide for their family. Does the empire even have enemies at that point? Ofcourse, you will have some hot shoots in new recrutes, trying to proove themselfes? Since, the real clones should be 40+ years old by than, right? So, that the Storm Trooper performance, has such mixxed result, is kinda normal and even to be expected. Their goofyness remindes you, that you are just one step away, from the "cardboard cutout" aspect of the empire. And thats what made it believable. They are not all racists. Or super angry. Or super fascists. Betweeen the poltitics and jedi hunting? Some are just going to work.

I know I'm probably in the minority, but I liked the series overall and did enjoy seeing some of Leia as a child. For me Obi-Wan's state of mind comes from the idea that everything he knew had been destroyed by his own apprentice and the guilt he felt over that. As for his mission with Luke, to me it's easy to understand that many people have plans but then fall far short of it, or even altogether. Obi-Wan living on a world like Tatooine, and hearing year by year of the atrocities of the Empire on people he once swore to protect, could little by little eat away at his resolve to be the trainer of the galaxy's salvation. I will concede, that him burying his lightsaber and closing himself off to the Force completely is an odd thing to put in there, because as you said, what would he have done if Luke did actually face a threat that needed Jedi intervention. That being said, there were a couple of things I would've liked to see, some of it pulled from written works: 1. Conversations between Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon where he assures him Luke will be safe because Vader can't bring himself to return to Tatooine because of it forcing him to face his past. Vader, deep down, knows he made terrible choices but has to live under the delusion that he was correct because facing the truth would be extremely overwhelming for him. That and Qui-Gon saying that while he and Kenobi could communicate, there were reasons why Qui-Gon did not tell him about certain events from Anakin's past, like his slaughter of the Tusken Raiders. 2. The homeless clone Obi-Wan saw, I think it could've been interesting if the clone recognized him, but now no longer under the control of the inhibitor chip, felt tremendous guilt over his role in the destruction of the Jedi. He could've been used to as a way for Obi-Wan and Leia successfully escaping the planet from Reva and the others by sacrificing himself as a way of atoning for the past. 3. More of Sideous telling Vader his obsession on hunting Jedi, Kenobi in particular, was a waste of time and doing nothing to further his growth as a Sith. I enjoyed the fight between Kenobi and Vader because it demonstrates that Vader's emotions while fighting Kenobi ultimately cause him to lose. Compared to when he fought Reva, he didn't even break a sweat because she is nothing to him. Enjoying your channel, look forward to more.

I’d always expected Kenobi would be show following a battle scared man coming to terms with his life as a former child soldier, having maimed his best bud in a battle to the death and now descended into isolated alcoholism and occasional self reflection + meditation on Tatooine. 30 years later, he’s recovered somewhat and gained some perspective on his actions, both good and bad. As with all these Disney wars shows, there’s no respect for the characters; they do what the plot demands. It’s should be the other way round.

Worth noting with the 11:16 power levels, Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes is a pay-to-win mobile game where, at the time of the introduction of a new ultra-powerful "rarity" of character TROS was just released, so Rey and Supreme Leader Kylo Ren were the first to have such positions. Grand Master Yoda, meanwhile, is a character who is, in the game, more easily obtainable and older, and as such weaker. Since then, several older characters have been given similar higher power levels, including ROTS Jedi Master Kenobi and ROTJ Leia Organa.

I haven't seen the show, but I think there are interesting things to be done with a "Kenobi" show/movie. First is the hunt for Jedis, reintroducing Sith inquisitors from the EU was nice, and since the rule of 2 exists, they can be weaker than a actual Sith. As for a Vader/Obiwan confrontation, have the primary plot be about Obiwan trying to assassinate Vader, so as to finish the job. Maybe Luke/Leia could be what draws out Vader, which could give Obiwan a bit of a ruthless side. Of course, Obiwan will fail, and whatever buddies he brought with him(maybe even another fugitive Jedi) would all die. It would be a somber ending, but it would at least show Obiwan doing all he can to hurt the empire, and essentially acts as his final hurrah before going quiet on Tatooine. As for gaining more powers, they could show Obiwan looking into the ancient mysteries of the Jedi and Sith, again using the EU as reference. This would allow him to kill all of Vader's inquisitors in the final fight, but after losing to Vader, he loses these power-ups. I really liked Rogue One, so this might sound a bit similar

As a lifelong Dark Forces fan, I simply can't acknowledge Rouge One. George at least hand a hand in it's creation (A story regarding blasting stromtroopers, an old game interview), he gave Lucasarts his approval on it's story. Ph, and funny thing people forget: Stormtroopers are average, regular humans under that armor, not the highly skilled killing machines bred for only war like the Clones were. So take that into mind when judging their accuracy.

I have always been of the opinion that Obi-Wan, like Han Solo, didn't need any added story to them. Solo was useless because the main character development of Han Solo happens in A New Hope. Before that he was a good for nothing nerf herder smuggler. We don't really need to see what the Kessel Run actually is, because it was mostly part of his mythos. With Obi-Wan he was in a "hiatus" between the two trilogies. He had one mission: Watch over Luke. And since Luke was never in any danger, there was nothing for him to do. That's really the can of worms George Lucas opened upon the world with the prequels - now everything can be "told" as a story. There's no more mythos. Just look at how almost any tie in show to anything these days is some form of prequel. That way you don't need to invent new things. The issue is - sometimes telling the story about a "thing from the past" ruins the mystery, replacing it with actuality. It's a Schrodinger's cat. Before you make a prequel, the story is undefined. Everyone can have an idea about what actually happened. Once you make the prequel, all those thoughts become obsolete - now there's only ONE correct story... no matter how good it might be.

5:55 I think it's three unrealated things that initially gave stormtroopers their bad aim...in A New Hope we have the scene with Ben talking about how the blaster shots were to accurate for raiders, it had to be stormtroppers...second, in The Phantom Menace we see the raiders bulls-eyeing POD-RACERS with SLUG rifles...third, there must be allowances made for plot armor when you have so many blaster bolts flying around all the time...so it ends up seeming like a big joke...but most of the movies also follow force users who can deflect and evade blasters, when we see troopers during The Clone Wars, they're actually pretty damn good shots (partially related to the plot armor point, poor AAyla)... 12:17 What are you talking about? Yoda and Obi-Wan (some of the greatest Jedi) cut themselves off from the Force and hid on remote planets. The only reason I can think of is that we already knew where they were going to end up in the OT so it didn't bother people. Would love to hear the other side of this argument

So a few major lore breaking or just downright stupud moments in Kenobi - For a start Qui Gon's Force Ghost should not have been there. The prequels and The Clone Wars made it clear that Qui Gon *could not* manifest as a FG and they even told us why (he never completed his training before his death). According to Revenge of the Sith, only his voice could be heard, but he could not actually appear. - Leia knew ObI Wan and yet never mentioned it to Luke (or anyone else). Like not even once: even when Luke was visibly mourning and would have been comforted by the realization she had known him too. - Luke himself seems to forget he met Kenobi as a child, and that Kenobi gave him the toy x-wing. - Vader's true identity was meant to have been a very closely gaurded secret known to few within the Empire. Yet Reva discovered it easily. Also, why would Vader accept as an Inquisitor a person who knew his true identity? He's more likely just kill her. - Also, how on earth did Reva discover the connection between Leia, Vader and the Organas? This also was meant to be top secret information known only to Yoda, Bail and Obi Wan. It was not recorded and was not a matter of public record. - Vader allowing Reva to just escape, with her being privy to sensitive information which could hurt the Empire? Why did ht just not make sure he killed her? Vader is not sloppy. - Kenobi dropping a commlink with a secret message from the Organas and revealing Luke's location in the middle of an Imperial facility. The only reason Luke doesn't die as a result of Kenobi's incompetence here is because of the oh so convenient plot device of Reva suddenly having a change of heart. - Purely on the basis of this incomptetent negligence, Kenobi should never have been trusted with protecting Luke thereafter. Even without considering the fact he abandoned his post *twice*, at the behest of the Organas. .... speaking of which. - If Bail and Breha were so concerned about people finding out Leia was not in fact, their biological child (as is implied in the series_ why did they adopt a girl who grew up to be the spitting image of Padme, in the first place? Why did they allow her to become involved with the Rebellion, an action which not only drew attention to her but endangered them. - If they wanted someone to find their daughter without drawing attention to themselves, why not just hire a bounty hunter?

The entire premise for this movie-turned-show was Vader's line in RotJ saying "Obi-Wan once thought as you do." That's it. That's what got this story greenlit when denied in the past. Nobody questioned the fact that Kenobi and Anakin had a preexisting relationship that would give Vader his insights. Everything about this show is wrong. None of the character actions or motivations make any sense, and it breaks the continuity in ways that could've easily been avoided. Had they simply adapted the Kenobi book by JJM, throwing in a couple scenes from the current SW comics that featured Obi-Wan's Journal, this show would've been great.

28:00 I literally made zero comparisons between those two things... This might just be a you thing i dont know. Firstly i want to be clear, i liked this show... But its kinda crap. It was my first experience in actually liking crap so i didn't have the knowledge to see that it was, in fact, crap. 😂 Now, the one major problem i have with the idea that obiwan wouldn't be in this deshelved state, is that kind of assumes a man who has lost everything can't question himself for a period of time. It assumes obiwan has to react rationally to a situation that is otherwise irrational. Which is the same argument people make for Luke skywalker in the sequel trilogy, the difference being that luke was supposed to be a person who never gave up despite the odds, a represtnation of the very concept of hope. Hence the title of the first film, a new hope. Whereas obiwan is, has, and always will be the good old boy. Well, maybe not has always been, but since the prequels came out, he's the standard for what a jedi should be. Or at least as is defined by his era, his generation of jedi. In the originals obiwan is supposed to be the grizzled old war veteran going on his last mission. And also a mentor. My point is, the reason luke can and should continue in despite of eveything and obiwan might not, is because their concepts have always been fundamentally different. Obiwan is the valiant knight, a representation of a bygone era, a war veteran who's here to teach the next generation. Luke is the next generation, and a symbol of hope. One can fall, the other should not, at least not without SHOWING ME the fall. And even then there should be a bounce back, since the idea has always been hope. And surrounded by darkness, only hope shines through. So I can see obiwan falling into this position of desperation but not luke, because of the intentions behind their characters. Obiwan isn't an optimist. He isn't a symbol of hope. Even in the original triology you can see he's pretty cynical. Of all the characters in starwars, I can see obiwan falling into this trap, becomming desperate and disheartened. He's a man who's lost eveything he's ever known. And has now been tasked with a mission. Now, completely cutting himself off from the force doesn't make sense. But, struggling to maintain that connection due to something like PTSD would be very interesting. We see this in canon even, with a charcater by the name of cal kestis. That's what they should've done, given the show more time to show the effects of the war on his mind and even his connection to the force. Which could also explain another reason as to his hesitancy in using the force. Problem is, THE SHOW DOESN'T BOTHER TO. Also, I honestly dont have any problem with the concept of the force being like riding a bicycle, once you learn how you never fully forget, even if you don't do it for years. And are you genuinely saying obiwan lifting and moving rocks around is power creep? I, I just don't understand this complaint and I really probably never will. Teleknisis is one of the most basic forms of force power. And is in fact one of the easiest to learn. Despite learning it still being difficult. Luke can do it without finishing his training for gosh sakes, obiwan has had jedi training his entire life. Just because you haven't seen it before doesn't mean the character can't do it. It just means they've chosen not to for some reason. R2d2 suddenly has rockets in the prequels he didn't have before in the original trilogy, heck guy is practically a swiss army knife, where were all those fancy gadgets in the originals? Are you going to compain about that too? I don't know, it just seems like a non issue to me. Anyway, that's just my 2 cents you didn't ask for. 😂

I hate the argument that we shouldn't care about the quality of movies made for kids. Shouldn't we care even more that kids are seeing quality stories with good morals and life lessons? Also, who is going to be watching the movie with the kids? What do they think PG means? Mostly, it annoys me because most of the mistakes being made are mistakes I've seen film students be embarrassed to make. If someone doesn't want to put the effort into their job to do it well, just step aside and let someone with respect for the art do it. I don't think I've seen many modern filmmakers or writers accept that they just made something that wasn't well liked. That alone would go far in fixing the reputation of Star Wars.

I think at this stage the actors are just happy to act together and at least Ewan and Hayden got to do that, which the three OT actors didn't. Reva and Leia are okay in the series but there is a bit too much of them. This is what I think should have happened No prequel recap at the beginning, that's just lazy Obi wan sees a poster of Darth Vader and this brings back memories, which causes him to have bad dreams, but one of those dreams is of him being pulled into a fire by Vader, so that could be a prediction. Now he understands how Anakin felt when Anakin had dreams about his mother and Padmé, this is flashbacks should be used. He goes to see Organa (leaving Luke unprotected) because he needs a friendly face. Also other Jedi are being killed by the inquisitors so he needs to get away for his sake and Luke's protection. While Obi wan is visiting Organa, Leia is kidnapped by Reva's gang, because of Organa, not Obi wan and it is all just a coincidence Organa asks Obi wan to help him rescue Leia and Obi Wan goes to rescue Leia undercover, and this is why he needs the help of the rebels. At some point Obi wan needs to use the force while rescuing Leia realises that he is a Jedi, but not Obi Wan. Reva recognises Obi wan and works out there must be a connection to Leia and eventually works out that Leia is Vader's daughter. She goes to tell Vader but is overcome with emotion that she cannot control and when she see's Vader's back to her, she attempts to kill him and this is where we get the battle between Reva and Vader, and also we see her flashbacks to order 66. Vader kills Reva and her last word to Vader is Leia. Vader doesn't think any more of it, but he senses Obi wan. Vader knows Obi wan is close by because of other events and then we get the scene between them, which is the first time they meet for real.

Those two things are even more different than stormtroopers and snowtroppers(as I'm sure you probably know), and I think the general consensus is that clones are a lot more capable than stormtroppers. Feels weird to even comment this because I agree with everything that's said so far, just thought that specific example was a bit out of place.

The kenobi show wasn't that bad

Personally: at best it was unnecessary, and at worst it was a poorly executed fan fiction that tarnished ObiWan’s legacy. But my metric for Star Wars quality may be different to yours, by all means enjoy what you wish.

Don't you wanna defend a franchise that gives you something better to say than "it's not that bad?

Before I watch this, I'm just gonna say I liked Obi-Wan and it was a good show.

Star Wars has always been bad. You are experiencing cognitive dissonance as you come to grips with Star Wars defining your entire personality.

Yet you’re here. Why are you here? You like reminding people you don’t like Star Wars every couple months or something?

Storm troopers were always a joke. We just didn't mind it in the ot because we were not aware of their utter uselessness. Watch something like jujutsu kaisen. Where sukuna gets loose for less than 15 mins and he flattens out 40% of Shibuya station. Star wars was always overated we enjoyed it as kids cause we were kids an it was the early 90s. But it kept getting worst. The only good thing to come out of the franchise was andor and no body watched it. Go watch Gundam or any non American sci-fi media.

I just found your channel yesterday and have watched mostly all your vids already lol good stuff man!! Watched your Halo ones and was disappointed when I didn't see anything after ep 3-4? Was hoping for a season 2 full review or at least the season finale! Was is just too painful to carry on tuning in!? Can't say I blame ya there, haha, but I need more intelligent and insightful dissecting that sums up how i feel about these shows lol Ps: Any chance we'll see any bubbles, or up n down floating etc... of your jellyfish screen moving fwd!? 🪼
