I would propose an extension to NL's model of drama dampeners and amplifiers, using current as the analog for drama: 1) drama resistor, which is analogous to the drama dampener, they won't participate in any drama; 2) drama capacitor, they bottle up the drama and suddenly release it without warning; and 3) drama inductors, who will try to defuse situations, but if drama starts anyway they will participate, although they will try to resolve the drama.

if there's no one behind you you don't stop they can go behind you. If you're in a long line of cars and you don't stop they CANNOT go behind you. There is no need to stop in scenario 1, because the guy can just go behind you, and in fact both cars will reach their destination faster that way since they aren't waiting to ensure you stop while you have to slow your own travel to stop for them. in scenario 2 you lose like 5 seconds and the other car saves potentially a few minutes, so you ought to stop there for optimal travel duration reduction.

Exactly. You start slowing down for no reason you're being unpredictable. Unpredictability on the road can lead to dangerous situations. But leaving a gap at side streets, so people can get in and out, is courteous if the traffic isnt moving.

I'll never understand people who are picky by self-admission, and expect entire group events to cater to their specific tastes. Sure, as a host it is gracious to include at least one thing they would like, but it's very much not their problem if you don't like tomatoes or something. 1. Get over it. 2. Eat before-hand 3. Bring your own food. The majority of the party is not obligated to change things for your comfort. I don't even know the number of times that I've had to pick the onions and peppers out of a dish because I don't like them. Instead of insisting that all the food should be free of them, I just eat around them because I know other people enjoy them.

HES RIGHT!!! Eating an anpple from an apple tree isn't considered normal in this day and age. When we picked some plum off a tree at the side of a road that had a bunch of plum trees one day and ate it then told people about it, they said that we shouldn't have done that and that it makes no sense. They said that it could have had pesticide over it and that those plums most probably had an owner. So its true, people get weirded out by people eating fruits off a tree these days.
@Romanticoutlaw

I generally only eat fruits off trees on our property or family members' property. This includes neighbors' fruit trees that have overgrown into the yard, that's free game. But it does feel a little weird to potentially eat someone else's fruit without permission. My grandma has raspberry bushes and the latoga bikers who come through every summer treat it like an open buffet and she hardly gets any of her own dang raspberries

NL's war on picky eaters is uncomfortable for me, because I think he's wrong, but I know how utterly tedious it is when someone takes an annoying personality quirk and turns it into a medical condition, especially in response to someone trying to mine some goofs and gags out of the topic... but yeah, I'm exactly the kind of picky eater he despises... I have a list of "safe foods" in my head that I know I can eat, and this list was formed when I was about 6 years old, so yeah, it's chicken nuggets, burgers, sausages, fries... junk food and treats basically... and yeah, it's obviously an autism thing, right? I've tried to fix it, but basically as soon as stuff that isn't on the safe list touches my tongue I have a humiliating autistic panic attack/freak out... I start gagging and retching uncontrollably, and however much my higher brain says "stop doing this, this is a ridiculous over-reaction" that message just doesn't reach my body, which is going into a "oh fuck I've been POISONED TO DEATH" kind of reaction... For a while I tried to broaden my palette gradually but to be honest, after a month of spending half of every day building up to the evening meal like it was a parachute jump, I eventually decided I'd just eat the stupid shit I could handle, and die 10 years earlier and 50lbs fatter than most people
@kingster14444
@kingster14444 Жыл бұрын
@@adamanonymous6885 Yeah I completely understand you there. And the die earlier 50lbs heavier was gold lol I don't mind at all about people's taste pallets and I've never really understood the arguing about it. @@adamanonymous6885I’m mildly “picky”, like I have quirks with certain foods but I’m not super limited, but it doesn’t help that I’m vegetarian. I’m autistic too and I just can’t stand certain food. It makes me gag and feel ill, and it sends me off the rails when someone purposefully lies or tries to trick me. I’ve been building though, I hate eggs and I’ve been trying to eat them. So far I’ve worked my way to making hollandaise and using the yolk as a dip, but that’s really it. I can’t eat cooked mushrooms, but love them raw. That gets made fun of a lot. Pumpkin, olives, etc I can’t stand at all. I’m a cook too, so it’s really fun getting made fun of constantly haha

I think an important bit of context that's missing when it comes to the family related ones, as someone who also has cut off their family, is there's often a lot of built up resentment and spite. That's why a lot of the OP's don't act in a completely neutral way, like for example the christmas bed-sharing one, OP is probably completely over their parents controlling behavior (most likely including stuff not mentioned in the post) that they just feel it's not worth the trouble, nor that the parents even deserve to know she's spending christmas somewhere else. It can feel like you're being forced to "check in" or get approval, so you just don't since it reminds you of the controlling behavior.

20:30 NL shouldnt do this. If I am picturing the situation correctly, you saved no one time if there is no one behind you. Besides you can get into what is referred to as a good Samaritan trap. By slowing down illegally to give some one the right away, if there had been someone behind you, and the car you let go hit that car coming in behind you, you basically caused an accident for the 2 other people involved. I always see situations like that in idiots on the road videos. One of those two reasons were probably why you got the finger, and in this case, I have to say that person was based.
@autismsings8848
@autismsings8848 Жыл бұрын
It saves them potential time, the reason why you would do this is because it can be hard to make unprotected left turns and if you go they might have to wait an extra second or two which could cover the entire safe window for them to proceed (due to oncoming traffic). They could be sitting there for minutes before another good opportunity arrives. and I mean... if you're slowing down to give someone the time they go and there's someone behind you they'd have to be speeding by quite a large margin to overtake you, not see the car turning and crash. it absolutely wouldn't be on you, it'd be on the guy going 10-30 over, but you can't re-contextualize the situation anyway as the context is implicitly a part of the decision making process, without the context you don't have the decision.
